I feel like Gameoverse will get the same treatment as KoG and Gaslight, where the fandom only cares about one character (Princess Gwen and Mel, respectively) and doesn't give a shit about the rest of the cast. Most of the fanart that Gameoverse is receiving is just of the cat girl, other characters like the dinosaur rarely get any attention, and if they do, they're inevitably paired with the cat girl.
Just saw it, its nothing mind blowing but nothing that makes me hate it either. It got a few chuckles out of me, I felt mildly entertained throughout and overall its a solid "good, but not great". I actually found the highlight to be the villains, real Jessie and James from team rocket energy going on and I am a huge sucker for that dynamic.
I also have a soft spot for Jschlatt, which is probably making me a bit more lenient than I otherwise would be on his vocal performance. Kit is also 100% gooner bait. I was rolling my eyes at the outfit change sequence because it was so obvious who they were doing it for.
Good to know that despite people praising indie artists coming up with "SO many CREATIVE and DIFFERENT ideas" this is the third Glitch show in a row that involves cute characters and mental trauma.
Alright alright, I'm being dismissive. As a concept, Kit's struggles and conflict in wanting to do good, but needing to do bad to get there is interesting enough. We're still in pilot territory so I'll reserve judgment for the greater plot threads. Characters are fine enough, though banter feels a bit too "Yell-y" to me. (Characters just kinda yell at each other, and that's supposed to be the joke). I am NOT looking forward to Flappers seemingly becoming a main character in future episodes, if only because of his voice. It feels like one of those voices you'd hear from dumbass youtubers trying to be funny for a bit, but seemingly stretched to the length of an entire episode (Yes, I know he's voiced by Arin Hanson)
Now, even if I criticize or make fun of someone's work, I'm still somewhat of a believer in artistic freedom. So if Kit and Miss Information are going to have unique outfits for every game world they visit, with the first one in this pilot being swimsuits, both in a barely disguised fetish way on Ross' part and very shameless marketing and merch opportunity way on Glitch's part, then whatever. But again, I'm definitely still going to make fun of it whenever it comes up in the future.
I enjoyed it enough to want to see more. I’m not like super amazingly hooked or anything, but it was still an entertaining show. I like the two bad guy lackeys, they were pretty entertaining.
yeah, don't have too much to say about this show compared to the other Glitch stuff, its's alright for the most part, despite having some adult elements like the occasional gore and the sex appeal, it feels very Cartoon Network-esque, meaning, it's basically a kids show in atmosphere, dialogue, and even the premise itself of "video game worlds being destroyed after its completed".
I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I was still in my pre-teens.
So this is basically an extension of Come and learn with Pibby by Adult Swim a few years ago.
Bit weird to have the fighting scenes not have an increased budget compared to the rest of the episode like couldn't you remove a few frames from them sitting around to make the fighting scenes smoother?
I decided to actually watch this as it premiered and damn... Is this really all there is? Is this the peak of fiction in the 2020s? It wasn't terrible but after watching I just felt so. Empty. None of these characters feel real. It literally feels like Cocomelon for young adults where I was bored the entire time with the pretty flashy colors and gooner cat only keeping me passively entertained. I just didn't care at all. I'm not even mad or anything, I'm just dumbfounded that these are supposed to be the guys bringing the revolution of indie animation.
I doubt this will be the next TDAC. Something about it reeks so much of utter blandness. But then again maybe all Glitch stuff was like this all along. I haven't watched TDAC since episode 2 or 3 and same with Murder Drones. Maybe this has just been the new standard for a while and I only just realised.

All I see when I watch Gameoverse is a cynically produced product specifically designed to sell merch and attract gooners.
"Make it dark with cute cartoon characters like pibby. Add a vague mysterious backstory. Make it reminiscent of retro video games for nostalgia. Add a female cat girl main character and put her in a bikini that looks like she's wearing a short skirt and panties. Have her look at a photo of another cat girls that she drew hearts on to imply she's a lesbian for the troon shippers. Make the hench woman wear a bikini too and do that smug anime laugh. Add anime fight scenes so people will say it's peak with hype moments. Put a potential reaction gif here and a meme template there."
It lacks a soul. I really feel like Glitch took this mediocre pilot that Ross and Arin have been unsuccessfully shopping around for the last decade and a half and turned it into the most formulaic indie pilot possible.

Nah, it's simply because you are out of the show's age range of pre-teens to teens, the entire vibe is similar to most CN shows I watched growing up, barring the occasional adult elements, Murder Drones and the Digital Circus is kind of like that too but I get the strongest feeling from Gameoverse in particular.

I grew up around watching CN around the early 2000s and continued well into the mid 2010s, I'm sorry for ruining your nostalgia but a lot of G-rated shows are just like that even back in the day, oversimplified, easy-to-digest, harmless cartoon fun.
I don't know what cartoons were like before my time but that's how I can vaguely recall my countless hours on the TV.

I think GAMEOVERSE is good, its main problem is going to be it’s not as much a stand out as Glitch’s other shows have been. It’s not going to be a massive failure or anything , but I don’t think it’ll be the massive TADC-level hit either.
It's really unfortunate that Ross has been working on this pilot for 11 years and the game, internet and cartoon culture changed so much that his idea will come across as "pibby but with videogames" and dismissed as edgy "subverted kid media" combined with soulless toy ads. And they really want this to make a looooot of toys, so expect the next glitch video to announce plush of all the main characters and one limited edition of the catgirl in a swimsuit.
Gameoverse pilot was mediocre. I think it wants to be funny and edgy but it's not good at either. People are saying it has better pacing than Glitch's shows but the reason is because it has the pacing of an oldschool youtube/newground animation. There is a logical nonstop chain of events where characters keep moving to the next place. But this can change over time if priorities change.
But i'm not really sure how this premise works. If the villain wins then what happens? Does the hero actually die forever? Do they give up and it's impossible to ever try again or change this outcome? Does the villain get to do anything they want if they win? What if the villain wants to destroy the world, is that really any better than having it be corrupted? Sorry if i'm overthinking but you don't get to handwave that away like an actual kid's show can.
Another petty complaint is that this show about game references isn't that good at it. They had the chance for a schmup reference in that spaceship scene but nope that's too niche lol. Kitty is mega man but she is kinda hot garbage (seriously, she gets incapped by fodder enemies multiple times). The dinosaur is Barney but that's not a game. I thought Flappers was meant to be Ecco the dolphin but he is just some retarded newgrounds animal who punches shit? The villain trio dynamic is more anime/sentai inspired.
Geez Ross, if you're going to milk retro game nostalgia then at least go all the way. That gag with Kit changing costumes feels like Ross already knew no zoomer was catching the metal slug reference so he starts with a McCree cosplay.

He not only voices the dolphin but the dinosaur and 2 side characters (you can instantly tell which one is him).
Ross finally made his dream real and decided Arin Hanson should voice half the main cast of his show, the one guy with 2 voices (normal speaking and "funny yelling"). This is going to hurt this show on the long run when it becomes traumatown.
I'll also make a humble guess here and say that the inevitable Sonic expy WILL be voiced by Arin (because it HAS to be Arin) and it will get unfunny real fast.
Honestly things can just be alright, I just hope to God there's actual plot and said plot doesn't take a nosedive. Like there's some fine attention to detail here and there and in all honesty it seems to take the piss out of those real old video game parodies by making said details a bit more genuine.
My biggest issue was the whiplash with gooner cat. It's like she's just there to completely kill the vibe mentally, lemme have my silly fish in piece, trauma dumpers get the spray bottle.
Seriously it's like a total whiplash.
