The German government is considering proposals to bring back compulsory military service as a countermeasure against a national crisis as they put it.

Could this have any connection to the fact that they urged the civilians to stockpile food for some days?

What could they be expecting? Terrorist attacks? Participation in a war involving NATO and Russia as many speculate? Simply ''reducing'' unemployment rates? Discuss if you will.
Germany ditched the idea of compulsory military service since they assumed they'd no longer need much of an army and in an attempt to save money, discontinued this. Seeing how it was only ever relevant during the cold war, this was only mildly idiotic from a strategic point of view. It was utterly moronic from the angle of indirectly forcing people to be workslaves for the medical sector, though.
Now, after realizing that when you don't force people into your army, you have less soldiers (No shit) and you still need them for certain tasks (again: No shit!), they are contemplating to reinstate it. This compulsory military service consisted of 6 months of an unproductive waste of time anyway, shitting in the woods or sweeping barracks. It's not like these people were send to Afghanistan or anything.
At most, they were allowed to haul boxes of ammo to the shooting range, so the "real" soldiers could practice.
The recommendation to keep a food storage in case of emergency (such as a natural catastrophe, power outage, war, etc) is nothing new. At all. This recommendation has been in place for the better part of a century; only last week, an updated version had been released where this was reaffirmed - especially since it hasn't been promoted since the iron curtain fell. The last study concerning itself with disaster prevention/national emergency plans had been released in 1995 and 2012 it was decided to make a new one, so it could be updated for fancy,
new gadgets such as
mobile phones or the
internet (you might have heard about that one, it's kind of like a series of tubes). Said 2012 study came to a conclusion a couple days ago and was released last week.
To go apeshit over either of these two "news" is incredibly :autism:.
And to think that a few weeks ago
@AnOminous doubted that people are incredibly triggerhappy to call Germans Nazis at the drop of a hat...
