it's also hilarious how much butthurt the game causes, first for "gamers" on /v/ because MUH GATCHA BOTW CLONE, and now reddit once they figure out what gatcha actually means at 30 when the current content is done.
The amount of salt from PC gamers is laughable, but it isn't entirely baseless from a gacha veteran's standpoint. The rates have been soundly criticised as well as the resin/energy system, which is completely nonsensical when compared to other single-player limited-multiplayer gachas on the market.

The game's event release schedule was also recently revealed, with minor updates arriving every month. Contrast this with the Agile-like week-by-week improvements of its 2D competitors. It feels like MHY has given a completely inexperienced dev team their art department and forgot about systems oversight. Combine that with possibly the worst PR division in the industry and you've got a game that's about to haemorrhage over 50% of its active players after the first month.

The monthly updates are the big updates. The minor ones are going to be like the co-op event coming out this Monday.

I think people kind of over hyped the 1.1 update, you had people thinking it was going to add in a whole new region already. Which is beyond dumb, with how big and detailed the current two locations are, each having their own unique music, stories, cutscenes, etc. there is no way that would realistically be able to pump that out in a single month.
From my understanding 1.1 is known to have at this current time:
-At least 1 new weekly boss, similar to the wolf and the dragon
-More of Liyue's story
-A big event that will have a lot of materials for leveling up units/weapons
-4 new characters, 2 of which are 4 stars

Realistically that's about what most gacha do, they usually have a big event once a month and minor events sprinkled between them. I don't think Genshin is moving much slower than your traditional Gacha.

That said they definitely need to improve the Resin system, it's definitely going to hurt the game long term if they don't address it within the first update. Like why in the world do the weekly bosses need resin? They're already time locked, why add another time lock on top of it? No one is happy with it. Even whales because for some reason they put a limit on how much you can refill resin even with paying money.

Also I think it was a really dumb idea to launch the game and not have some big event going on during it's first month.

Still at it's core, this game is really fun, most fun I've ever had playing a gacha game before and I'm actually excited to see where it goes. I just hope the devs take the feedback and improve it's flaws. Though I'm not gonna be too :optimistic: because it is made by the Chinese.

saw the ticket answer about limited, did they clarify it somewhere else that it counts for standard too?

as for single rolls, imo it comes down to saving rolls in the long run. if you pull a 5* on your 55th roll, it resets the pity counter so you have to re-evaluate if you want to possibly spend another 90 rolls.
if you roll in 10s you would have "wasted" 5 rolls which you could have saved for the next banner.

it's also hilarious how much butthurt the game causes, first for "gamers" on /v/ because MUH GATCHA BOTW CLONE, and now reddit once they figure out what gatcha actually means at 30 when the current content is done.

shit chance for diluc, but if you finish both zones till the end of the banner there's a good chance to get at least venti (got 80 something rolls out of the game and got him when I didn't even want it, would rather have saved the pity for the next banner. that being said he's OP af).
The game's fun yo. It's pretty and has Windmills that Represent Peace in the fucking German themed region.

What else could you want.

Yeah we'll get another blurb, more characters, and a resource grind event. Also free Fischl iirc, so nice for those who want her,

Still working on getting that free Xiangling so I can get mine to constellation 2 lol.

Well this now pushed Fall guys out of the top place. Get ready for the Chinese devs to really stick it to you since they now have an inroad.
lol imagine dat.

still think they should upgrade the resin system ngl.

from what I've read of the lore and shit so far, I find it to be very standard-y RPG stuff in terms of the tropes and shit. Doesn't mean it ain't fun.

It's only more fun when your starting roll had two 5* characters.

This elemental event is a lot of fun. Mental, unfocused and totally chaotic, but fun all the same.

most of it was well known before release, like the 6 week patch schedule, limited amount of zones that won't cover everything up to 60/90, resin system and how the game changes after you cleared the zones etc. and it's not like it's mihoyo's first game - if anyone wants some hints, he just needs to look at HI3 or other gatchas. that's why I have zero empathy for tards that can't read shit like basic banner details and then create thread after thread "the game is dead if they don't do X !!111 - written by a free player". my favorite is them not even understanding why resin, or any other form of timegate you can pay around is even in the game. they will argue to death denying any change in that regard will inevitably lead to shit in other places, they honestly believe when resin is gone it will magically make the other zones appear and give everyone a c6 5 star...

for example other games keep the system, just give you refreshes out the ass and other ways to circumvent it, problem with the limited amount of content in the game means people boost hard to 60/90 (same way they already nolifed to AR35 in less than a week) and complain again, so it really wouldn't change anything.
usually you have some other event that has you grind shit and keeps you distracted, and that's where they dropped the ball not having 1-2 running the whole time. it's cheap, and easy to do. as for the event requiring resin, I think mihoyo fucked themselves with that one - maybe their grand idea was when people see all those ventis and dilucs they gonna dump more money into it - but by making it multiplayer the last thing you want is a "one and done" thing, you need people constantly be willing to participate, and there's only so much you can do with what's already in the game (and how much you*re willing to give away as a company). so resin it is.

not to defend the current system, as @Gypsymagic said tuning is definitely needed, but not the extend people are whining about right now. from what I heard FGO did not even have a pity system for the longest time and GBF pulled enough shit to get the japanese government involved, so I wouldn't really call it "worst system ever" (yet).
tbh it reminds me of all the f2p drama back then when MMOs switched from subs because they were not sustainable and basically boiled down to "wtf do you mean I gotta pay now?!", completely oblivious that different business models actually do work differently, drowning out all the valid criticisms (and leading to companies going full retard trying to grease the squeakiest wheels while still raking in the dosh).

I assume because resin directly translates to exp (and gold), if they remove it expect it to not give any exp/gold anymore either. but we gotta have to wait and see how the new conserved resin is implemented, I expect nothing so I can only be surprised positively.

eh, don't forget you want to max them at some point to get their full potential, and good "luck" pulling the same 5* six times in any sane timeframe/spending amount. that's why I basically settled for 4* to be done with it, at least at some point I can reasonably "finish" them without giving MHY my whole paycheck each month.

why the fuck would you pay more than 5 bucks into this game.

The devs are going to make you once you're in too deep.
The game's design is quite blatant about it. With the exception of artifacts, the other two means of improvement/progression (characters and weapons) are blocked behind your adventure rank which is more or less your "You've played this much" marker. It'll really become obvious once a player has more or less explored all of the world and done all of the quests, as at that point their income of weapon, character and artifact fodder will more or less dry up to a trickle with the exception of the domains, which are behind the Resin timegate...which you can pay to partially bypass.

The gacha system isn't so good at giving you that shiny new character, but it is quite good at giving you three-star weapon fodder to improve your weapons. At this point in time unless there's a guaranteed "10 pulls for this character" you're better off avoiding the gacha system entirely. The battlepass boils down to "play 10 bucks for a shot at a 4star weapon, or 20 for all of them right now" and the "free" missions are obviously designed so that you cannot complete them either without spending premium currency to buy Resin or opting instead to abstain from rewards to get that battlepass experience.

The game itself isn't too bad, but I'm already at the point where I'm wondering "Why am I playing this instead of Warframe?". While it's a decent first impression, I do wonder how the game's population will fare longer term. I don't know if I'll still have the game installed a month from now, though I'll probably keep some of the music from it.

I'm surprised they haven't been playing up the Halloween season. I know it's their first official month, but it's a gacha game. Jiangshi and witches are cute and all but I expected a pumpkin boss in Diluc's winery maybe.

Genshin does a good job of being "F2P friendly" while still insidious in its own way. The amount of daily grind it expects out of you to keep up on your Battle Pass progress and duties isn't necessarily extreme, but it is pretty boring most of the time and clearly habit-forming. It's easy to be fiscally responsible and not blow a c-note on that internet geodes game when you're not playing it on a daily basis, different story when you have to play and you're getting desperate for new "things" to shake up the monotony of your daily grind. Warframe also does this, which is why I ultimately dropped it as well. Paimon's cute, and the world is pretty fun to explore, but I'd recommend getting out before you start planning your day around maximizing your resin use.

What's the deal with this game?

My feed is flooded by people being overly defensive over so-called "butthurt botw fans". Seems like a good portion of them are people who exclusively play MMORPGs and have serious Stockholm Syndrome. It's as if the game is the second coming of jesus.

I gave it a look and it appears to be a mediocre gacha game with stuff ripped off from better games. The endgame looks like it's just daily grinding due to resin limitations. The gacha rates are some of the worst I've seen in gacha games. I imagine that like most gacha games, it gives players a lot of good stuff on launch, but the more characters get added to the pool, the worst it gets as you have less chances to get the character you want.

I've seen a lot about "wow it's free therefore it's good", but plenty other games have been "free" like Fortnite, League of Legends, Warframe, Hearthstone.

Am I just an old boomer that doesn't get it?

The game is a free Chinese Breath of the Wild with attractive waifu to collect. It also showers you with chances to gamble to get new/better characters and weapon (at first) and overall a constant Dopamine drip of gems (to gamble with), flashy but easy to understand combat, plays to explore, and items to collect.

Then all the gatcha shit hits.

So basically it does a good job of getting you hooked for free and then making you pay either with time or straight up cash. There is always something jusssssstttttttttttt around the corner to either do or upgrade or gamble on so for any one with a slightly addictive personality its straight up cute anime girl crack.

Having just tried the game out - about to go into the ruins where the pirate treasure supposedly is (telegraphed way too hard to be anything but a lie as part of some 4D chess move ice knight guy is making) - and all in all its really slick starting out. The things its taking from Breath of the Wild are beyond obvious but, I mean, besides basically surgically applying the backstory of Skyward Sword (the whole 'ancient war that set everything on fire') to BOTW gameplay, it legit does some things better. Cooking far and away is far more streamlined and simply pre-loads all the ingredients for you through recipes instead of the 'your magitek tablet can take photos, generate infinite bombs, and control magnetism, but it doesn't have an option to remember food combinations' crap that pissed me off about BOTW. Even better is NO DURABILITY SYSTEM because I hated that even MORE.

My only real major complaint in the early game is that you can't see the status of characters not in your party. I accidentally knocked Amber out when I found myself mid-glide over a ravine with no stamina and she fell like six stories, so I swapped her out (I'd already gotten Noelle and thus hit the limit of active characters) and later wanted to use a revive item. But to do this, I had to swap Amber back in my active party and THEN go into the inventory and select the item. If it was more streamlined like Pokemon that would be far smoother. I also wish Ice Knight guy wasn't a standard sword user since your default character also uses standard swords, meaning the only real difference between them is element power. Woulda liked him to use a polearm or something since you get him automatically.

why the fuck would you pay more than 5 bucks into this game.

I don't, just pointing out 5 stars are a mirage, especially as f2p.
(that said that 5 bucks pass is good value if you want to spend some)

there's isn't even a way to spend around the stamina timegate really (it's limited and gets more expensive every time), only way to whale is blowing it on random chars and weapons (which are optional for the most part).

it's your average gatcha with the difference having an actual game attached to it and not just an autobattler for waifu jpegs you play on your phone while on the train or taking a shit. the game part was what drew people in, when the current content was done they got a culture shock with the gatcha aspect (which honestly isn't even anything new, timegates are old as shit now, even granddaddy WoW had them and no one complained - in a fucking sub game, people really like to get strung along), in any other game they would complain there's nothing to do till the next content drop. like they do in every game.

it's simply not meant to be played for hours every day, didn't help that were people blowing through it hard for MUH ENDGAME only to run into the gatcha loop of doing shit for 15 minutes a day (a bit more if you're start farming stuff early which doesn't require resin, gotta need some rare stuff that later on and ore is literally weapon exp just laying around).

usually the daily grind gets spiced up with events having you do different stuff so it doesn't feel too much like a chore, that's where they fucked up, especially when people are used it from other games where there's constantly something going on. it's also an easy way to dump older chars etc on you for free since they hardly make any more money from it when there are shiny new characters and shit to roll for and to clean up the pool a bit, but the game simply isn't old enough for it yet.

set a statue of the seven to 100%, port to one after someone died or need healing, continue whatever you were doing. MC also is kinda eh, not sure if the abyss event is still going where you can get xianling for free, but she's a damn good character (for now, have to wait and see how the main char uses the new elements) in most aspects while being a 4* on top. there's also barbara who wants a spot (although noelle for some backup healing and as shield-smashing walking pickaxe is hard to beat), so you'll probably get rid of the main char at some point. protip: friendship still goes up without him/her on the team, and without you can raise it on 4 chars at the same time instead of 3.

the 20 rolls on be beginner banner should've given you at least another char, if not the game showers you in currency at the start so you can do some rolls on the current banners and get one from there (don't spend any primos in the beginning unless you really want venti, iirc you get enough fates through level ups to do all 20 rolls on the beginner banner, don't think it was time limited but can't remember). limited banner runs till the 18th and currently xianling and fischl are both boosted, which are some of the best where you need a good team setup.

you might enjoy the next not!china zone more; bigger, more vertical, more varied stuff to explore and new enemies (fuck those fatui), beginning was probably kept very similar to botw on purpose.

jokes on you all, just use Qiqi and Keqing to clear all the content, along with a Fischl that has 2 constellations unlocked.

That shit with the dogs opium brothels and windmills is hilarious and the world looks fun, but it's so strange seeing people act elitist towards anyone who didn't pay money for a gatcha game. I didn't know people did that, is it some sort of crab bucket thing? "how dare you not waste your entire entertainment budget on waifus like I did". Also hearing the phrase "gatcha veteran" is incredibly depressing. Might as well just move to nevada and be a slot jockey at that point.

Who the hell would be elitist about this game? I mean sure if some one wants to whale to get his waifu he is just a idiot with extra money, more free game for the rest of us.

Like at that point the only acceptable response is to laugh at him and call him a retard.

the second some people pay (more) than others they turn into cunts, has been a thing forever, doesn't really matter about what. dunno if it's self-loathing the person wasn't smarter than paying less/get it for free or think it elevates his position which leads to unironic comments like "lol poorfag" or "I actually support X, you're just a leech" etc. - for example people getting butthurt about the notion kickstarter exclusives should be available later because "they deserve something special because they backed it first" or something equally retarded. or just hang around your FLGS when the trading card version of a smash player flips the table after his 5 digit deck got wasted by some random dude that played the first time that evening.
