Wise is barely a self insert, to the point you can't even play him or change his name and he has a very clear canon personality.
I'd make the argument that actually makes ZZZ much better in my opinion.

I am no doubt doing this gacha shit wrong but I prefer it when the main character is a character. Self insert? Fuck that, why would I want to imagine ME, the most dense of deers, as some amnesiac getting worshiped by all the fair maidens in the land?

With that said, obviously that sells well because being a Chinese/Korean gacha player should be considered a mental illness. But they got a lot of "Fuck me pls" money and a lot of loneliness to fuel them.

I don't know about the Japanese ones. But then again Japan mainly gives us shitty IP games no one cares about

I hold a similar sentiment, I like how different Belle and Wise are as protagonists as opposed to most other gacha protags, even compared to Aether/Lumine and the Trashblazers. I also think Wise is really cute but that's just my opinion.

I actually miss it when the Traveler wasn't famous yet. Arriving in a new region, and you didn't know what to expect with how the Traveler would be treated.

These days, they get to a new nation and almost immediately they're recognized and given hero worship.

True, but it's a natural consequence of the scope of Genshin's story. I'm glad they don't try to act like the world-spanning reality-shaping consequences of our travels where we frequently defy or offer critical support for known deities would ever be overlooked for any amount of time after entering a new area. Traveler is probably as recognizable to any random person in Nod-Krai as Furina or Mavuika would be, and honestly has probably had more of an impact on their lives even before the lunar chapters.

It would actually be more unbelievable to not be recognized and fawned over.

one is an insufferable rat, the other is John Anime. Yeah, no thanks,

Fuck it, guess I'll start cleaning up my Star Rail backlog. I'll be ending Space Greece in 2027 at this rate
I was turned off by star rail for this reason, played it a bit but it seems like such a slog, and the gameplay was boring from the little bit I played. Girls frontline drew my interest more, probably my gun autism peeking through.

It's actually funny when you remember that Traveler wasn't even planning to save those nations and becoming teyvat jesus, they just wanted to ask the archon if they saw the twin, but somehow they are always at the right place at the right time. In inazuma we simply walked away from ayaka asking help (lol) but then we were forced to join the rebels after saving thoma from the shogun.

Even in nodkrai, we only went there cause traveler suddendly remembers they parked the spaceship nearby but then rerir pranked us and we end up fighting gods and saving the nation again.

This is like if a real life tourist looked for a restroom real quick and eventually this lead to them stopping a civil war.

I had to drop Endfield after that dating story in Wuling with the local boss, that was the last straw for me, I think I am just not the target for this type of game.

I really liked the idea of having all characters of your team on field together (reminded me of rpgs) and the building aspect...but the memory loss cliche set-up, silent protagonist, one-dimensional quasi-exclusively female cast, being treated like high-tech jesus everywhere, every single female character automatically worships the ground I walk on... It just turns me off. I feel like this would only appeal to lonely isolated weebs, with godlike complex, who fantasies about breeding catgirls, who collect body pillows and who have no experience interacting with other humans.

I would love:
- characters to have more depth,
- characters with complex interaction with each other, and not just with the self-insert (rivalry, hate, disdain, jealousy, manipulation, love..)
- No more self-insert: I do not need it to enjoy a game, I am perfectly happy following a group of people on journey as a spectator.
-no more specific weapon type and elements, I feel like it limits the characters diversity
- yes more males (like bearded, older manly men), and I am not talking about pandas or owls who feel non-threatening to the weebs
- stop with the cringe dating simulator, or if 2 characters develop a relationship actually go bold and make them kiss (think Tidus and Yuna from ffX).

I had to drop WUWA for exactly the same reason.

Compare to Gathering Wives Wuthering Waves. How bad is the ML?
