Is it just me or is Durin's voice really bad? Not just his voice acting, but the voice itself too. He sounds much too old and it's generally an unpleasant voice to listen to.

They pulled a +30 british theater and tv actor and told him to voice an anime teen with murican accent and it does not sound good. I watched an interview and the guy speaks normally but with Durin he sounds strained as hell. I assume hoyo forced him to hold back the accent and try to sound young but he can't pull it off, it just sounds awful and forced.
Huge contrast to the jap voice lines where he sounds like average anime teen boy (35y VA) but doesn't yell and his battle lines are short and calm.
btw there was the star rail livestream and some unexpected stuff

So notable things here is that 1- There was no edo star tease. AT ALL. Nothing. This in contrast to revealing the amphoreus cast before 2.8 (dooming rappa)
and 2-The next patch will last 8 weeks long.
Is this due to japan and china political drama? probably but 2 weeks is still too little to realistically create a new fake planet, they might be waiting for this to die out or changing small stuff like models and names.
There is seemingly no apology or compensation for this either. The patch will also feature 3 double banners so it's clear hoyo is not too concerned and stil wants to milk your money instead. The baners will be Constance (dahlia) + Firefly -> Fugue + Lingsha -> Aglaea + Sunday.

I need Hoyo to stop with the autostart plus forced continuation of quests. There are people who want to take breaks and not be held hostage in special instances followed by cutscene marathons. Let people play at their own pace.
That said, I didn't expect Act VI to end like that. Consider me intrigued.
And I agree with everyone that Durin's EN voice sucks. His combat lines are so grating, they're souring me on his character, which the poor guy doesn't deserve. For me the worst EN VA is still Lumine's, though I admit I'm biased since I can't stand the twins at all and wish I could replace them with the manekins.

Shitpost aside, it could be it's a similar situation like with the EN voices of Neuvi and Diluc, that being that apparently neither of them knew much about the character they were voicing, and so just did what they felt was appropriate.
I have mentioned how EN Diluc sounds like a prissy LA douchebag, and I believe it was mentioned to me in this very thread that EN Neuvi's VA thought he was voicing some arrogant god figure who needed to judge the stupid mortals and thus tended to yell his combat lines in ways that didn't fit Neuvi at all.
Without having heard EN Durin, I am going to assume it is probably a similar situation. Or it's a case of an actor with a whole different expertise not translating well to VA. There's bit of a difference between voice acting and theater acting and not everyone can bounce between the two.
ACKSHULLY he's 31, not that it makes a difference. But yeh, the guy is pretty good at the calm soft voices.
Which is why it sounded so...interesting for lack of a better word in Etheira Restart, where he tried to sound angry because his character was an angry egdelord and he sounded super hoarse. He still did a fine job, but it was somewhat of a departure from what I am used to.
Also did you know that Nahida/Qiqi's VA (Yukari Tamura) is 49 years old?

Thing is though, I hate shiptards of any colour and I find any age talk in Genshin so fucking annoying. People freaking out about Fischl being old enough to drink or not (to use a non-shipping example that I've come across) because they are shocked that Hoyo could show an illegal activity (because remember, even a fictional world is America where you need to be 21) need to get a real hobby.

Diona hates alcohol because her father is an alcoholic, I don't think the game ever mentions her actually drinking the stuff and I doubt she ever will because China is very particular over minors being depicted drinking alcohol in fiction, which is why the Traveler was depicted only drinking "juice" until recently when I think they finally dropped the pretense.

It's certainly unfortunate but just stay away from those people and you'll be fine. You don't have control over how retards act so tbe next best thing is to walk away. Oddly enough I don't really have much of a problem with Durin's VA (I have a high tolerance for stuff like that). English dubs are kind of hit or miss I'll admit.
