So, legitimate question, does anyone know a way to manage Genshin's file size on the console version? Cause how they managed to get this bloated mess to work on mobile is starting to amaze me - look I'm not finding answers on this anywhere else, I figure the font of autism that is us would be a good bet.

Because holy shit the file bloat on this game is ridiculous...
Sadly no. Although considering this is a gacha game, the bloated file size comes a lot from character voicelines and then there is audio log of entire archon quest conversation in the book archive.

Even looking at some parts, it gives me pain of how painfully long one dialogue can felt along with Genshin text speech.

In the PC launcher, there's an option to clear downloaded content (no idea if the same option exists somewhere on console). If they're not purging old event data, then essentially doing a reinstall might help recover a few GB. Otherwise, Mihoyo really needs to step up their game and work on a way to efficiency store data since we've still got a few more major regions to go with their associated side areas.
You're mistaken, it's only mobile phones having option to remove previous quest data. Which is currently roughly 22GB vs nearly 70GB for both PC and Playstation.

Although, I have a feeling the user who reports those file size, they probably have two language audios installed. I only have one language audio, so my Genshin is like 62.5GB.

Fresh reinstall might be what I have to do - last I checked, games sitting at well over 100GB. I don't think they actually prune anything when they do updates.
check if you have the languages deinstalled you don't use anyway.
but the game is big even without the audio, it might just be an anime game, but all the stuff for 4, soon 5 zones adds up.

dunno if the ps5 allows it, on ps4 you could put stuff on an external HD. that would increase load times however.

Then you'll probably hate yourself fighting a boss with shield or teleporting away when her burst comes up.
gid gut, switch earlier, use another char that has less of an issue with it (shields especially you usually want elemental damage anyway). never understood those arguments. it's the same for every melee char too.

This basically means you only need to log in exactly 1 time a day, since 240 will be exactly 24 hours fully recharged. (1 power per 6 minutes instead of 8 minutes like Genshin).
motherfuckers, people have been asking that for that in genshin for fucking years now. even tower of fantasy, besides all the other crap, changed that retroactively when it went global where you had 2 fucking days to cap it. besides adding condensed resin and upping the cap to 160 (from 120) in 1.1 there hasn't been any change (24h cap is 180, 160 means it's capped every 21h20m or something, so to get all of it you need to log in twice at least every second day...).

Honkai Star Rail seems to get all of the QoL stuff that Genshin desperately needs and I'm really hoping they bring some of that into the game with 4.0 releasing. It even has semi-permanent events where the main chunk of the story/event stays and only the limited rewards are gone. If Genshin did that at least for the ones that had event exclusive weapons or something that would probably bring a lot of people in, or possibly back. All the new Albedo mains could finally eat at least.

At this point, it has to be an engine limitation stopping some of these QoL changes.

Its easier to implement things on a clean slate then trying to deal with years of potential jank hidden away because of the six week cycle between patches.

upping resin is just a number change, if their programming is really so shit they can't even do that without everything breaking we would've seen it in other places by now.

can't remember if old events are still in the files, otherwise they'd have to distribute them again, which would bloat the filesize even more.
the other issue is, which I'd say is more likely, mihoyo never properly logged those events since they were temporary anyway. which means they have no record if you'd already done them or not, and then adjust the rewards. you could theoretically run a script to collect the weapons someone owns, but that would only work for weapons.

by now there's also a fuckload of events, you just know there will be people complaining it's too much (because they are either retarded and think they have to do them all NOW or don't pay attention that they're old events).

as for albedo mains, they can just use HoD, people have been using that just fine even before there was a dedicated DEF artifact set.

But it isn't pretty and colored like him.

Hell they should be purchasable from one of the shops like the instruments from events are. You miss out on the event rewards, but can still get the weapons since most of them are useful

didn't mean it should never be available again, this way you'd still need to roll anyway for the stardust or whatever. I might not like FOMO but I understand why companies do it.

it's more about people constantly going on about his weapon especially like there's 0 alternatives...

Some QoL changes coming in 4.0, as officially announced:
  • Artifact inventory: 1500 -> 1800
  • New Mystic Offering sets
    • Tenacity of the Millelith
    • Husk of Opulent Dreams
    • Pale Flame
    • Ocean-Hued Clam
    • Shimenawa's Reminiscence
    • Vermillion Hereafter
    • Emblem of Severed Fate
    • Echoes of an Offering
  • Multi-Layer map launches
  • Ability to trash all 4* artifacts at once
  • New BP weapons
The devs also hinted that they may finally be looking into artifact loadouts and changing how Daily Commissions work to reduce player frustration.

>no resin cap increase
thanks mihoyo, fuck you too.

otoh with lynette being free I have zero reason to roll at all next patch. maybe if they pull another tighnari and put lyney on the standard banner, but since I'm that close to hit guaranteed pity I'll have plenty if primos left for the next waifus.

More resin? Where's the money in that?
there isn't either way, and they did it in star rail (or apparently planning too).
for all their talk about "reducing frustration" because jumping on 5 mushrooms is apparently too much for people, this would be a much easier fix to not force people to log in twice a day...

I was gonna try Genshin again, because I have very little to do in Star Rail, but this shit takes 121 GBs just to install. This laptop can't handle that.

That reminds me. Back in Honkai days, energy cap will increase little by little as you level up. Refilling the energy with special currency was also a lot cheaper and waiting for energy to be full was also a lot quicker too. I miss those days.

So how many zones are in the game by now? I saw a YouTube video with traveler having all the elements.
Traveller doesn't have all elements yet. Wind/Geo/Electro/Dendro and is about to get Hydro. Still needs Pyro and Cryo

4.0 will have him going to Fontaine, which is the Hydro area. After that we have 3 more places to go, story wise

I really hope they put in a "skip to new area with story" button cause there is no way in hell I'm playing all the way through 3.0 to get to Fontaine.
