Maybe next patch will have Eula? Surely she has to get a rerun eventually, right?
The syphilis victims(leakers) claimed that she'll be featured in 3.8 and play an important part in the next summer event, but they're making shit up all the time so take it with a Havrian load of salt.

Now I'm torn, I'd love to get Nahida C2 for those tasty Dendro reaction Crits, but I Baizhu...
wait till more info is out, then pull on the last day before the banner switches (also helpful depending on the 4*, I rolled a few more times when I knew I want none of the new ones).

apparently there's one more dendro area, then probably GSS for summer again. mihoyo might include her like mona and fischl last year but I don't think she's popular enough for that.

Baizhu releases on second half so there is no way to know if he'll change but if you want """"meta"""" he doesnt seem that great, especially if you already use nahida and yaoyao. His combo is dendro and decently fast so he can play hyperbloom on field but his off field utility is an 80 cost burst with 14s duration, 2s low range 1u aplication and a pathetic shields even if you have 50k hp so he's not a nahida sidegrade at all.

That being said, it's kinda sad baizhu is literaly the ONLY POST RELEASE MALE HEALER and he does nothing particularly great. Yes, it's pedantic to whine about such thing but the only healers i use that arent Bennet are Sayu, Diona, Yaoyao and Dori aka the loli healer squad lol.

Also this is a bit random but if anyone here has Nilou, what are your experiences playing her outside of raw bloom? I think i might get her but i'd prefer to have more options instead of less. Has anyone ever tried using hydro dps nilou in hyperbloom or vape or freeze? Would giving her her a HoD sword and 2pc hydro 2pc make her an acceptable dps or is it copium?

She's completely viable in any team you would use an on-field hydro DPS, the main issue is that she doesn't really bring anything unique to that role. Childe has more hydro application, Ayato has better raw damage, and Kokomi provides consistent healing. In comparison to those three, non-bloom Nilou is just serviceable. Her hydro infusion on her skill will definitely get the job done and her burst is nice damage wise, but she really needs bloom to make her gameplay stand out. You can run her in atypical comps if you want, but I feel like it'll ultimately be more satisfying to go back to bloom.

Update: Finished Liyue, on to Inazuma. Mostly just been using Keqing and Diona, although I've been keeping Xiangling leveled in case I run into a fight where I can't use electro.
The Kekqueen can pretty much solo everything that isn't immune to electro up until WL7 so using her as your main source of damage through early/midgame isn't a bad plan.

I was kinda miffed when I first got her because I lost the 50/50 on the Ayaka banner, but she's been decent for unga-bungaing the content. I don't want to continue rolling for another 5* DPS because Nahida is apparently coming back and I'd prefer to get her since she's supposedly a must-have.

A shame you missed Ayaka; she's pretty much Keqing 2.0 with a better element for the crits you'll be doing.

Woo, Inazuma done and I'm almost AR40. Weebland was alright but I feel like it ended kinda abruptly.
That’s honestly the consensus on Inazuma - when I still cared enough to lurk the Genshin Reddit, even they were shitting on the writing for Inazuma. It’s honestly just not that good.

Thankfully, the writers redeemed themselves with Sumeru, but I hope you like Caves.

Those once a day missions are a fucking progression nightmare. I hope that shit never comes back.

Yeah, I repressed those. Whoever decided Taratsuna needed to be a 7 Day Quest, all to clear an area you fully explore during said Quest of it’s Not-Radiation, deserves to be mocked.

There was at least one of them in Sumeru, but it was mercifully much less involved. I’ll gladly take the Aranara Slog over the Taratsuna Quests…

Since no one mentioned yet, here is kirara drip marketing, 4* dendro inazuma cat girl

4* were also confirmed to be Kuki, layla and dori, and since i still dont have kuki i'm gonna roll all i have here and hope for a c2.

Also i'm on guarantee and i dont know if i should get nilou or nahida c1. It's unfortunate that i dont like nilou very much personalitywise but then again i didnt like ayato at first either and he grew on me with his lines. There is also potentially haitham and wanderer next and i'd like to pick one of them hmm... not a lot saved to ensure, will see how it goes.

Tighnari's VA changes on 3.6 btw, he sounds a lot more boyish now and less nerdy.

For some reason I've been thinking about giving this game a try. A few questions:

General estimate, how long does it take to get from the very beginning to end of current content?
Is this believed to be like tiktok? I.e. spyware for china and a notable security risk?
I've heard that characters are sometimes available and sometimes not. Can they be permanently missed, or can you 'get everyone' if you hang around long enough?
About how much real life cash do you have to drop to get a relatively normal experience from the game?
Does this follow the mmo paradigm where 'past' content is relatively easy to go back and complete/obtain with current stuff?
How strict is the meta/learning curve, specifically while progressing through the game(as opposed to an endgame meta)? Can you just play with the characters you like or do you need to look up a min/max setup to not have bad time?

I have in fact googled these question, but got conflicting results, mostly from reddit and years apart, and trust you guys more.

There's a considerable amount of content to get through to catch up, but it's not a drag like a lot of other live service games. I enjoyed going through the story at my pace, and since there are frequent "Minimum level required" gates, you're going to have to pick your own pace.

I actually don't know, I haven't looked too much because I'm past the point of caring, but someone else might know more.

All characters are available except Alloy from Horizon Zero, she was only available during a cross over event. Outside of that, twice per month the current characters available swap out. Some characters take longer for reruns than others (Eula has been in jail for 500+ days and I cry), but eventually they are all going to get their turn at being available. That said, it's random gacha luck if you pull who you want.

I've spent 0$ on this game, and I can safely say I'm having a fun time. The only spots where people might feel pressure to spend money is if a character they really want is currently available, and they either didn't save enough to get them or just had horrible luck.
Does this follow the mmo paradigm where 'past' content is relatively easy to go back and complete/obtain with current stuff?
About 1/3 of the plot is just inaccessible. For whatever fucking reason, Mihoyo run limited time in game events with major plot content, with absolutely no way to see what that content was if you missed. That said, their are videos online of people playing that content or summarizing it if you missed and care.

You can disregard meta entirely if you want, the only part of the game that is slightly challenging enough to actually try hard is the final couple floors of the monthly dungeon, and you can just forgo it entirely if you don't want to play it. As you play, you'll notice that certain characters work a bit better with others, but Waifu > Meta is both valid and a lot funner.

Genshin uses the Unity game engine and as far as I am aware, no, though it is a mostly singleplayer game with tacked-on multiplayer that requires an internet connection. Make of that what you will.

With the above mentioned exception of Aloy, all characters/weapons are potentially obtainable via the gacha...eventually. Definitely would not recommend spending to do so. That said, certain major events have introduced unique items/weapons and those are unobtainable if you weren't playing at the time.
Does this follow the mmo paradigm where 'past' content is relatively easy to go back and complete/obtain with current stuff?
Aside from the monetization method (paying for gacha rolls instead of paying for cosmetic items) that's one of the more disappointing ways the game works. While there are some minor limited events that rerun (bonuses for dungeons/farming, certain battle dungeons and Windtrace) the major events are completely inaccessible once they've ended and in some cases contain interesting lore or world-building or unique weapons/items/furniture(Summer Isles, every event that isn't just filler). For example, the Big Bad of Chapter 3 (released as a playable character in version 3.3, December 07, 2022) was introduced in version 1.1 of the game two years prior in a time limited event. According to the wiki, quest dialogue changes depending on whether or not you were playing at the time and experienced that event as if you did not your character should not know his name.

The game is divided into difficulties (world levels) that you progress through either automatically or by specifically doing a quest to advance it. If you decide that was a mistake, you can lower it back to the prior level. Honestly, if you're halfway competent at computer games you should murder your way through absolutely everything through World Level 5, after which at that point you should know what you're doing and take advantage of game mechanics. You can definitely play through the entire game using whomever you like, though by around World Level 7 you'll be at the point where most characters can no longer solo the entire world with ease and you're better off switching to other characters to counter a specific element/situation.
