Edit: Also Yae's skill targeting changed and i heard some people hate it? If you have her and dislike it remember to write it next survey, it's really unfair to change a character post release like that.
I'd imagine people are complaining because the targeting change made it harder to spread elemental reactions amongst a group of enemies as only the closest enemy would get electro procced, but also made them most likely to target enemies with shields that block the attack because obviously shielded enemies are the most likely to charge you instead of loitering in the background. I wouldn't really call it a bad change as it does make the turrets much more consistent in targeting, but it is a case of "They used to do this; now they do this and you need to keep that in mind". It also means that turrets no longer stunlock groups of normal enemies, instead focusing on murdering whatever is closest.

Overall, due to the turrets no longer randomly spreading electro through a group of enemies, unless you take the time to spread out your turrets and run around to have them target different enemies, Yae is better at damaging single targets but worse in multitarget scenarios, especially when facing a mix of melee and ranged enemies. She's basically just a better Fischl.

C2 Yae haver here, the whole situation around her has been pretty stupid. When she was released, there was a large scale spread of misinformation on how her turrets work and it's led to a lot of idiots reacting to a perceived issue instead of an actual issue. Her original turrets would attack random enemies in a surrounding circle around their placement, but since there is no actual indicator on where the turrets can attack (it's actually quite large, about an Albedo circle in length and has a certain degree of verticality), a lot of players started to get concerned when they'd see that her turrets would attack random objects, like bushes, trees, torches, etc. However, anyone who paid attention would realize that the turrets prioritize enemies or boss objects over the random backdrop items and thus, was not a hindrance in most combat situations. What was an issue is that not being able to control the targeting meant that certain enemy types could absorb hits that the player didn't intend to, such as shielding enemies, boss objects like the fire/ice amulets in the Signora fight, or the invulnerable body of the Oceanid. This is not a Yae specific issue, however, because technically any character might get auto-targeted to any of these, it's just that most characters can manually change the direction of their attacks to compensate for the targeting. Ultimately, these hang ups are annoying, but hardly game changing, and the targeting system itself needed adjusting more than Yae did.

However, Genshin players are very bad at Genshin, so trying to understand the ins and outs of targeting was lost on some people. There's still a notion circulating around that inanimate objects will eat Yae's turrets, in part spread by idiot content creators who never took the time to understand how she actually works. It seems like Hoyoverse's solution is to give more control to players by making the priority on the closest enemy instead of a random target. I don't hate the change, but I don't love it either. She has great single target focus now, but she loses some of the fun that you'd get from placing turrets, focusing on a big guy, and then watching the little guys explode in the background. It won't fuck her team comps that badly (electro-charge will be less spread out, but that's what Anemo is for) so it doesn't feel like a nerf to me, more like a shift in strategy.

I'm more annoyed because it feels like misinformation winning out in the end. People became so hyper focused on the targeting because it looked the most egregious in the wrong light, but her biggest issue is mainly tied to the fact that her turrets placement is awkward and somewhat pointless without Kagura's Verity. I wish that they had focused on making the three charges of her skill flow better from a gameplay standpoint instead of their minor targeting issue.

tl:dr
-targeting is nuanced
-Genshin players don't like nuance
-misinformation spread making conversation on the topic very annoying
-the "fix" is good in some encounters, bad in others
-Hoyoverse should have refocused on more impactful changes, this is a nothingburger

From playing the Trial, Ayato getting a Taunt on his skill would be fine. I still find it funny they’re releasing 2 Hydro Sword characters back to back - they couldn’t wait like, a patch?

His skill originally had a taunt tho, it was removed in late beta for some reason. I used taunt as an example because it would be very easy to bring it back.

What other hydro sword? When i said "ayato + his sword" i meant Ayato + his 5* weapon (haran) that gives normal dmg bonus. Yelan is hydro bow and Kuki is electro sword healer.

I could’ve sworn Yelan was a Sword character. Oops.

In my very limited defence, I had this on my mind.

Admittedly people who whaled to get C2 or higher on Yae have a right to be annoyed at that, especially with how little MHY seems to have tweaked other characters after they’ve gone live - read: bug fixes - but at the same time without C2 it honestly makes Yae a bit more consistent with the Overload Machine Gun comp.

Admittedly I haven’t had any real problems with placing her turrets, but that might just be me being used to dodging - it’s just instead of pressing a button to dash I’m pressing her Skill button. I feel like they could last a bit longer on the field, or be placed somewhat further apart, and they’d be fine. As is, Yae’s basically Fischl with higher Base Stats.

Yelan's a bow user, but you're still technically right considering the free Xingqiu makes it 2 Hydro users.

btw the leakers said mihoyo gave them Ayato + his sword and told them to test it in the current beta too. This makes me theorize that either:

1-Ayato is gonna get some slight non powerlevel changes like yae. Maybe Burst targeting, maybe bring the clone taunt back, i dunno.
Update from in game announcements on this one - turns out, Ayato’s got a helluva bug, where attacking can potentially double the length of effects like his Skill, or Corrosion.

Guessing they want to make sure that’s squashed, so he’s back on the Beta

Did the abyss, got it done with my first comp and only a few retries, felt waaaay easier than the previous abyss but you'll need xq or childe on first side and anemo cryo on the other. If you have kazuha and ganyu the second half should be super free but he would also be godly on 1st chamber 1st side.

If not then you can certainly improvise with other characters. There is no boss here so all you need is good sustained aoe dps and the shield+aplication to deal with abyss lector/heralds

>wait why did you use zhongli with ayaka and venti with diluc???

Because uuuh... i thought venti would be bad on the second half? In hindsight Venti barely did shit and i had to avoid bursting with him since diluc cant hit up there (should've brought sucrose i guess) but zhongli helped a LOT on the other side, especially the triple abyss herald room. Meteor at the start followed by ganyu barb and ayaka burst gives one hell of a headstart but then all 3 pop off and not even zhongli's shield was handling, had to retry until they got grouped and hit all of them with ayaka burst 3 times.

I like how i have all these cool characters and barbara is just standing there holding ttds. I'm gonna miss her if i get yelan...

The Yae targeting change is being rolled back in a few days (April 6th), and MHY is handing out some Primo’s for the inconvenience.

The Genshin community might be one of the only times I’ve seen people prefer RNG to Fixed Targeting.
It's a weird issue, but Yae is at least carving a niche for herself on distance coverage so the fixed targeting damaged her uniqueness. I think in most cases, more people would prefer controlled targeting, but there's already so many close-ranged sub-DPS options available already (Oz, Pyronado, Xingqiu swords, etc.) that Yae gets lost in the crowd without the full advantage of her range.

Also, Yae already has a close range option with her 2000% scaling burst. If she really needed something dead in front of her, it's easier to rely on that instead of reallocating turrets to target a specific enemy.

I mean, it makes more sense in genshin cause reactions are very useful so spreading elements across all enemies can be more useful than focus firing a single one. The skill also staggers small mobs so spreading out stops ranged attackers.

My tablet is broken and i currently can't play the game.

Is ayato good?

He's not bad but his limited hydro aplication locks him out of vape comps, his burst is expensive and other than venti burst sinergy he doesnt do anything you cant do with xinqiu. If you want to play freeze he needs to be the field dps which might be a downside since most people would rather use their cryo dps (ayaka, ganyu, etc). Can drive electro charge teams just fine and works well with raiden (unlike childe).

Like, if what you want is xinqiu 2.0 then just wait for yelan next patch, but if you like ayato and think you can handle his weaknesses, then he's not a throw pick but not a busted solo carry either. He also cant be thrown on any random team like say zhongli or kazuha, you have to comp your team around ayato.

Finally did my Autism Check, managed to clear 12-3. I kinda hate myself for doing it, but it also gave me a Platinum Trophy so I can’t complain too much.

Could I’ve made my teams better and played with the Gimmick better, oh fuck yeah - my comps were Kazuha-Ganyu-Klee-Barbara and Zhongli-Qiqi-Raiden-Yae Fucking Miko, thank fuck the Electro Synergy meant Meteors for days on the Heralds - but I finally hit my autistic peak. It’s all downhill from here.

Dear Travelers,
The placement function of the Serenitea Pot is still under maintenance. The placement function will not be available during the maintenance period.
Starting from 2022/04/04, we will issue a compensation of Realm Currency ×5,000 every week during the maintenance period.

Starting from 2022/04/04, we will issue compensation to all Travelers via in-game mail every Monday at 11:00.
So I hope nobody here is particularly attached to decorating their teapot, because guess what you likely won't be doing for the next several weeks.

The new selfie event is so silly and pointless so why do i like it? I guess cause it gives me an excuse to relax and apreciate the enviroment design for once. Also helps that it's fast and easy and has no talking.

If this counts placing characters then that sucks cause i i have like 5 character with near max friendship and xq maxed (was too lazy to take him out). At least 5000 is a lot of coins so it's enough to buy all mora, xp and resin every week.

I was going to say they might be working on huge teapot changes but it's more likely that the recent covid wave + lockdown fucked them over and they cant deal with teapot for now.

It does; since the entire placement/management system is inactive, any characters placed in your teapot are stuck there for the foreseeable future. Hoyolab has lots of people complaining about not being able to get the FP income for Ayato.

I was anticipating a relatively short maintenance period, so I'm off to a less than ideal start. Oh well, at the end of the day it's just numbers in a game and I almost certainly wasn't going to use the profile banners anyways. At least people who haven't unlocked the teapot are getting the coins too, so they'll have a nice stash to start with when they do get to that point.
