I think it says more about the overall state of the game industry. Groundwork for this was put by the western companies that put same kind of monetisation into their games. Genshin and other stuff like this wouldn't fly otherwise. And that became possible because of paid horse armor thanks, Todd.This guy gets it. I doubt anyone who plays this are actual gamers who have taste based on entertainment value and monetary value but are """gamers""" who want to be a part of a social crowd that thinks grinding for an Adventurer Rank is peak game design.
Now, Genshin is kinda the same grindslog as any ubisoft-like open world game. But it has a pretty anime wrapping, none of these hardcore realistic graphics to empathise serious plots, no non-binary vikingx and all that. Also, it doesn't have a downpayment of 60+ bux from the get-go.
