Why is this game so popular anyway? From all the clips I've seen on Twitter/the few story videos I sat through on YouTube it seemed pretty generic. Really glossy and pretty! But generic. Am I missing something?
It's a free to play consoomer/coomer wife game. There's no reason anyone likes it except to jack off and get roped into a skinner box.

It got popular because:
- people saw the open world and thought “HoLy ShIt Is ThAt BrEaTh Of ThE wIlD”
- weebs saw the gacha and thought it was a worthy outlet for pissing money into
- the publicity it got on Twitter opened the floodgates for the RWBY/kpop hybrid tards that made the fandom the absolute circus it is today

The video on this page keeps fucking expanding the pagesize by an inch every second but the game isn't anything super special aside fromt he factit's completely free and actually solid. I want to keep typing more but the FUCKING BRAZIL VIDEO KEEPS EXPANDING WHITE SPACEUNDERIT ON MY BROWSER FOR SOME REASON

EDIT: ok after several refreshes it stopped doing it
The people talked about in this in this thread? coomer/consoomer shit probably. People that actually play the game and don't dothe social media war shit about race or "comfort characters"? It's probably got some fun elemental reaction based combat and literally costs 0 fucking dollars unless you want to pay money for rolls for potential chances at some characters (which you can get for free anyways if you actually play the fucking game)
I ended up playing it because my friend blew 40 on it and I saw the character he got and was like "IS THAT MARIO LMAO" and he's like "IT'S NOT MARIO!!!!" and then I eventually ended up getting that character while spending 0 fucking dollars. I played it specifically because it pissed off my friend that I compared it to BOTW and the small funny explosion kid that throws fireballs to Mario but then the gameplay loop got me and I blow some time on it on occasion to explore the bigass world and do tasks and shit.

Backstory for the person who tweeted this: they’re currently fandom twitter enemy #1 for saying they stand with JK Rowling and that “aromantic” people are oppressed for friendship or some dumb shit.

They’re getting torn to shreds in the QRTs for saying that Ukrainians should get a free gacha character.

opposed to most gachas, at the very least you can control the character in a 3D space and it has actual gameplay opposed to most gachashit thats just staring at PNGs automatically attack other PNGs

I know I briefly played it because I was drawn in by element interactions, which was a fascinating mechanic for me that I don't see too often in many other games. I know that weebs would definitely be attracted to the character designs (gotta have them lolis and bishies, amirite?). The gacha system is pretty addictive, as you are usually guaranteed a banner character after X number of rolls, which keeps people pumping cold hard cash into this.

Oh, and if you've played with Japanese voices on, it's most probable you've heard this:

Would it be elitist of me to say mobile games will always sit at the back of the bus? Oh, who am I kidding, I don’t give a shit. Genshin plays like a crappy Nexon MMO I tried all the way back in 2010 and the graphical fidelity is about the same. People who only play these types of games are better off spending that money on better ones that at least don’t jerk you off for another $3000. Get a Switch or something.

Unfortunately, gachashit work like MMOs. Its a playground, not a story. Most of the gameplay is tied to rolling for a CHANCE for a character or a weapon. You can't even win the game without rolling for a character or 2 (and same with weapons) so you are limited in whatever the fuck you want to do.

This guy gets it. I doubt anyone who plays this are actual gamers who have taste based on entertainment value and monetary value but are """gamers""" who want to be a part of a social crowd that thinks grinding for an Adventurer Rank is peak game design.
