I never got the appeal of Dusty Rhodes. Not WWF Dusty, which was basically just a humiliation ritual by Vince.

He always looked like death and was on the verge of having a massive coronary and collapsing mid-match or promo. And he sounded like he was retarded, which made his ability to talk come off as 'meh' for me.

He was a good talker, but I just couldn't take him seriously.

When I started watching JCP in 1985, I liked Dusty. He came off like a goofy fat uncle who, it just so happened, could also kick your ass. As time went on, and he started popping up in hot feuds that had nothing to do with him, then in one of the Apter mags, I read that he was in charge of the booking...then all the "Dusty finishes", by 1988/89, he had completely worn out his welcome with me.

And then hearing (from Cornette no less) that his profligate spending, and dopey ideas/booking, played a large hand in the Crockets having to sell to Ted Turner.... yeah, fuck Dusty Rhodes and the horse he rode in on.

You don't get why a fat, southern retard would get popular in a sport who's majority of fans at the time were fat, southern retards? He was the original "he's just like me, frfr" guy.

I believe it was Dutch Mantell who said that a face shouldn't make any political takes deeper than "USA Good" or it will piss someone off. Heels get to go at it as much as they want. That's what got New Jack so much heat in SMW.

Apparently he didn't count on a promotion's entire fanbase being made up of millennial city-dwelling bugmen and neckbeards, where some curtain jerker can get a push for expressing his hatred of federal law enforcement. AEW fans are the kind of brainrotted redditors who never step out of their bubble and truly believe that the vast majority of the country agrees with them and that everyone thinks that we should interfere with said federal law enforcement to defend human traffickers and Somalis who scam the welfare system.

This was an era when your average blue collar guy was working in construction and hated fucking yuppies. Dusty acted like the funny guy everyone was friends with on the construction site. Ric Flair's gimmick was basically that he's a yuppie. So the appeal was you had a construction worker who was beating the shit out of a yuppie.

It's basically Steve Austin, but in the 1980s.

We get it, you get seething mad when some wrestler doesn't want a mush-brained, pants-shitting child rapist to be king of America

Hard Times is still one of the great babyface promos

The kind of mark that pops for some curtain jerker saying orange man bad, everyone.
The kind of mark that seethes when someone doesn't want to get on their knees and be subservient to a pants-shitting, mush-brained child rapist, everyone. I recommend you get your test levels checked because it's not normal to be as submissive as you are, little guy

Don't you have some cargo shorts to go shit or something?

No, shitting ones pants is the MAGA motto these days. After it came out that the child rapist that you worship shit his pants, all of you MAGAloids were saying how it's alpha to shit ones pants.

I recommend you go back to USPG2 where you can fawn over an obese, elderly, senile, mush-brained, pants-shitting child rapist and you won't get triggered by wrestlers not being into those things and not wanting to be submissive to the Chris Chan of presidents like you desire so badly

For the whole box stunt that WWE is doing currently, I have forseen three outcomes for it.

1. Danhausen (Smarks happy, marks will be going who? as Danhausen becomes irrelevant in a few months)
2. Jericho (AEW smarks overjoyed, marks will be cheering and Triple H will be happy using a shovel on him to bury him)
3. Dude Wipes (Funny Option)

wtf has road dog done to my boy Ilja
Like everything road dogg touches. It becomes dogg shit.

It's probably my favourite wrestling promo other than the one where David Schultz calls Hogan gay or the one where he wants to line up Sarges family and "slap them silly".
God Spoke to Billy has to be up there for the most hilarious way that a push was killed stone dead before it began.

Others that are gold are $600 Dollar Lizard Shoes and the Bischoff, It's All Yours promo where Flair starts ripping hundreds and flinging his clothes into the crowd. No one in history could ever go crazy like Naitch did. I'll even put the Jay Lethal WOOOOOOO Off promo as at least a top 25 all time.

I am still shocked Vince allowed that to happen WHILE they were trying to push Billy Gunn so they had another talent to work with. His work was always great, and he could talk, and he had the size, but it was all shut down by one big mouth who would leave the business to be one of the shittiest movie "stars" of the last 20 years.

it might not be a wrestler depends on where exactly they go with it

I get the general idea behind it and get why people liked him, but I just couldn't get into him. Like I said, he could talk and I get that there was something there.

I always viewed that sort of stuff as a kind of wish fulfillment, which is why someone like Austin, who looks, sounds and acts like a badass, had appeal, but Dusty looked like someone who lurched in from the concession stand.
