Tony is a smark. Tony also seems to think that it is still 2015 and that NJPW has a presence in the online smark space. It does... As the place AEW got a bunch of it's stars from. Anyone that the "internet community" jerked off willingly from that era has either retired, gone to WWE for a big payday or done the same but with AEW. Nobody posting on r/SquaredCircle or willingly watching WhatCulture top ten lists is asking for a Master Wato run in AEW. Nobody engaging in tweet chains that tell you the "deeper layers to Finn and why his losing streak is a meta narrative" is honestly going out of his or her (implying) way to watch the NJPW Tag Team League. NJPW is COLD in the West that even DDT has a greater reception in the current smark fandom.

But to Tony, he's almost collected together his personal 2015 - 2018 era "Best of" collection. Soon his fed will finally match what he felt was the true wrestling experience... 10 years late. Trends in the industry have changed since than. Assuming AEW is powering on by 2028, Khan will have finally caught up to 2022 programming and will have slapped a title on 51 year old Sheamus.

Yeah, Tony is going to run up against a wall in the next few years because NJPW has fuck all people worth signing in the pipeline at the moment.

His options going forward are:

- Lean heavy into women's wrestling and poach a bunch of Stardom/TJPW girls
- Scout the indies and hope he gets to decent talent before WWE does
- Pay obscene amounts of money to WWE talent that have come to the end of their contract
- Set up a training school and produce your own talent

The last option is the best but TK is such a mark for established wrestlers with built in stories so I reckon he'll just throw money at the problem.

The Bucks are one of the biggest certified anti-draws to have ever existed.

You know, very rarely I have seen active wrestlers being given major corporate control in the promotion they were working on and not have ended in disaster, WWF in the mid 90's had the Kliq, ensuring the 5 people involved will get a main event spot and everyone else can go fuck themselves, the final years of WCW from 1999 to its death was in part caused by wrestlers being stingy politicking faggots and people like Nash being the fucking head booker of the promotion, TNA in the early 2010's had Hogan and other older talent who refused to put people over, Triple H from 2002-2005 hogged the spotlight of RAW in that period, quite literally causing ratings of that show to decline heavily.

My favorite promo of all time is Jake Roberts at Tuesday In Texas after he slapped Miss Elizabeth. He's just completely vile. Mean Gene is great in it too. "Get the hell out of here!".

So apparently the Bucks are babyfaces now and are trying to enter a feud with Jack Perry. :story:

Good luck trying to make this duo of assholes look sympathetic in any way.
Bucks are just fucking terrible, I don't even think AEW Neckbeards would cheer them at this point, one of the Worst Tag Teams of All TIme

Which makes me wonder why Trips isn't doing the same for Rhea's NXT goth/scene counterpart Gigi Dolin.
probably because gigi isn't endogenous enough to create a bi/lesbian awakening in the female audience in the same way rhea has. i have female friends and dated women who had zero interest in wrestling until they came across rhea. look enough like a man and a woman at the same time and you'll get ratings i guess

I am very tired and bored, so I have decided to share Jay vs Mark Briscoe in some random Delware indy show. (HCW Mandatory Suicide, circa 2006.)

Neither had wrestled for almost a year at this point, and both were allegedly drunk and nearby, found the show, and were legit frustrated with eachother so they decided to violently beat the shit out of eachother.

It’s a tad bit intense. Enjoy.
Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe (No DQ) 1080.mp4
this is one of my favorite matches. same energy as necro vs joe. this is the same show that hellaware assassin threw himself off a roof

Met and talked to him a few months ago because he does the convention circuit, he’s still kicking.
He seemed tired which isn’t unreasonable, but healthy as he can be at this point.
Was able to focus and recall things during the conversation, his color was good, he was lucid.

Such a natural heel, but the way he grew up really fed any natural demons he had and ultimately sabotaged him.
Of course didn’t talk to him about that part though, also didn’t feel it was appropriate to say that the Resurrection of Jake the Snake documentary made me cry.
He’s a great guy to talk to, even now he’s a huge carny and is happy to tell stories.

Lex Luger is a dick, wasn’t sure about the stories I had heard until I watched him interact with fans and then talked to him myself.

Went and Saw Raw and NXT last two days since they were in the area double taping for both. Great Crowds and TD was way more packed than I imagined.
The comparison between that and AEW Big Business was insane and they knew how to work the crowd.

NXT was awesome smaller venue really added to the atmosphere and the newer talent really shined. Look forward to rewatching back.

This is awesome to hear. Glad he is still doing well IRL. I wanna get a chance to meet him next time a convention is around. Dudes been through hell but what he was able to endure and turn into something that was an escape for other is an amazing story.

The Jake story is one that will forever be both tragic and an amazing redemption arc.

Considering how many times I have seen Tony Khan getting mocked all over the IWC for his spastic behavior and ailing wrestling promotion for the past (I think) two years, do we have a specific thread on him?, I feel like he's currently pro wrestling's biggest lolcow at the moment

im always a big proponent of "Never meet your heroes" unless it was a planned meet-up specifically organized by WWE I would never walk up to a wrestler unsolicited, I once heard a story of Randy not liking fans walking up to him at the gym, which I find understandable in the context of a gym, probably exhausting enough to be a wrestler
No matter how retarded this website gets, the General Wrestling Discussion thread will always be big dimes brother.
ive only been here for a few months, only boumped into a few retards so far, but yeah this thread is like a less shit-posty verison of /pw/ which I like

shit you were there too ? The Pyro was a lot louder then I remembered (I hadn't been there for a wrestling show in like 11 years), there was a dude and his gf in front of me and the GF must of had hearing sensitivity so that part probably sucked for her, the Viking Raiders entrance sounded like Gunshots, good shows though, New Day and Solo's Bloodline getting booed out of the building were highlights for me

It was pretty surreal because we were waiting in line at one wrestler’s booth, then fucking Jerry Lawler was next to that booth, then further down was Lex Luger and the Steiner Bros.

Jerry Lawler lives rent free like a methed up hobo in my head with the “PUPPIES!” and in general Attitude Era views on women.
I’m sure there are fans of Jerry Lawler here, just not my cup of tea after those 13 year olds he was caught with and pled guilty to witness tampering and something else.
Either way it horrified me when one of the little crackerettes apparently smiled and waved at The King because he seemed sad.
Whatever, skipped him for Jake the Snake.

And because I’m anon I will admit fully that I sat on the floor with a clear eyeline sight to both Trish and Lita for about a half hour just soaking it in.
Trish is one of the most beautiful and glamorous women I’ve ever seen in my life, she still has that aura around her. Beautiful smile and cute with glasses on.
Lita, also gorgeous.
Grew up watching her and the Hardy’s and Edge and Lita was the first women’s wrestler I saw that I wanted to be like.
She has the most unique jaw and face, just as beautiful as I thought she was as a child.

I finally got around to watching the Raw thar has the New Day flipping heel. I thought it was a pretty smart move to breath new life into them. I figured for sure they were just going to do a split a la The Rockers (and pretty much every tag team ever to split up). They got all that heat, without putting a finger on Big E and it's a credit to Big E's selling that really made it work.

I try to imagine AEW doing this thing. Somehow the New Day would break up and reform twice in a week and Big E would have been pile driven through plate glass three times.
