Hockey is another one worth keeping an eye on. I don't follow the sport, but those checks players regularly take have to be very head jarring.
There's a pretty serious concern with hockey players, and there's been some steps to make the sport a bit safer. About 10 years ago there were a bunch of goons (low skill players ostensibly on rosters to fight) who were all dropping dead due to a mixture of substance abuse/mental issues and a lot of them had signs of CTE in their brains, similar to how a lot of wrestlers were all dropping dead for a while due to steroids.
Hockey has generally been trending away from goon culture in general, but concussions are still an ongoing issue and I imagine we'll be seeing a second wave once skilled players start aging. Paul Kariya, who had all of eight grade erased from his brain due to a hit on Scott Stevens, and Eric Lindros (star player who had a long history of concussions and had his career shortened as a result) are two players I'm real curious how they'll turn out.
I'm sure the last thing TKO wants is a NFL concussion style lawsuit from both past wrestlers and ufc fighters.
I imagine that it'll be coming. A lot of the early UFC fighters are in tough and its not pretty what has happened to them. Dana White has tried to clean up the sport and make it 'safer' and more legitimate...but he's also tried to push shit like Slapfight which is basically Brain Damage: the sport, so fuck him.
