is it really _that_ big league to get $500 million a year for the exclusive rights to it in the entire western hemisphere and the UK?
it's not a chump change figure but it doesn't seem that amazing considering how huge the territory it covers is, and I have serious doubts about the wisdom of tying ALL your tv to a single paid streaming service when live attendance and other revenue streams lean on the tv for promotion

People just straight up don't watch TV anymore not even having cable is am increasingly common fact of the matter it is in fact probably more likely that week of streaming is simply more likely to have more eyes on it than clinging o to an ever dying medium

This is an excellent point. This is a ten-year deal. How many people under 40 do you think will even have cable by the time we get to year 7 of this deal?

I think this makes sense for WWE up here in Canada as long as Netflix can handle the server load. Right now, Rogers has the rights to WWE up here in Canada. For $14.99 a month, you can get a WWE only Sportsnet Subscription which lets you watch Raw, Smackdown and NXT live on all your devices, plus the usual WWE Network content. Assuming Netflix costs around the same next year as it does now and all that shit is moving there as part of this deal, you'll basically pay the same for a standard Netflix subscription to get everything you were getting from Roger's WWE package plus whatever the fuck else is on Netflix these days.
 
I guess I'm just selling paid streaming short. But yeah I guess if you want to shift to there better to do it now than when the fabled imminent collapse/consolidations means you get a smaller deal.

Wonder if this has something to do with Snowman passing on WB. Maybe it won't be USAetc but I can see some network less-bad than WB feeling they want to fill the TV wrassle void.
 
So does this mean Raw is going to be Netflix-exclusive for streaming (live and on demand), or is Raw going to be broadcast ONLY on Netflix starting next year? I'm guessing the latter as I can't see NBC losing WWE on Peacock but agreeing to keep it live broadcasting on USA

Edit: Okay I found the full press release, no live Raw on anything but Netflix. No PPVs on anything but Netflix. No WWE Network material (including the old territories and WCW stuff) available on demand anywhere but Netflix. Smackdown remaining on USA for now. NXT on the CW

Wow this is stupid lol if Netflix thinks it's gonna bring the returns they want

Yeah there's been more than a couple of attempts at this and while they haven't failed they weren't gangbusters either

Why not? Less people own cable than ever why would raw going to a more commonly owned medium be a negative?

my point is that this isn't a new offer, there's been similar setups before and it calls into question what's a reasonable ROI for Netflix from this

I do wonder how this will impact pirate streaming. Last I heard Netflix has a much more dedicated squad than wrasslin's usual of Nate Glass and some pajeets off fiver

If it's that hard to pirate, I'll just read the report. I'm not paying for Netflix, especially after stuff like Cuties.

People are cutting streaming services because of rising prices and the fact that commercials are coming. This is a dumb move.

People claim they are but I guarantee you most of them will just go right back to paying for them after the performative outrage even them those people sure as fuck aren't switching to cable
