I think Martha may want a Britt and Adam win so the first Owen Hart Tournament has a couple since Owen was a huge family man.

I need a rundown of where and how to start and where and how to watch.

I check their website for schedules and it just confuses me further lol. I'm used to the standard structure of 1-2 main shows per week, followed by a ppv to end the month. I look at the schedule and see shows like every other day, shows with AEW, shows with Japanese and English/Japanese only commentary, events that look like ppv's but they look like they're often. Idk man but I need help. I guess the best question to ask is: is there a weekly main show? That would probably be a good starting point to work from.

The history of current New Japan begins with Hiroshi Tanahashi, the man who put the company on his broad shoulders and carried it out of the dark age of Inokiism:

I’ve said it before, I think AEW’s commentary would be greatly improved if they swapped JR for a Heel Colour Commentator - would give them someone to actually talk up the heels in the ring, and would honestly fill out the booth better (consider - Excalibur as the Play by Play, Schiavone as Face Colour, JR as Old Man Yells at Clouds, it’s not hard to spot the weak link here…)

Do they still have Don Callis? I remember reading something about him signing with AEW after his contract expired with Impact. They have two perfectly serviceable heel announcers in Don Callis & Taz if he is under contract.

Per about 30 seconds of Google-Fu, Callis is employed as a Backstage Consultant - whateverthefuck that means, I’m assuming 20:1 odds it’s as a favour to Omega. Guy was good on commentary, I’d be down with him taking over for JR.

In unrelated, possibly late, news, per Meltzer - Roman now basically has the Lesnar deal. Not in terms of pay, but in terms of dates.

I think Don is there as a pay by appearance deal. He hasn't been around for months since he trolled fans with a Kenny Omega entrance that never happened.

It's a few more dates than Lesnar but similar type of deal.
He'll be at the larger cities and PPV's but that's it.

You know what, man? I actually really enjoyed it. Allot more than I thought I would. I'm already planning to go to their Worcester, MA show in July lol. Compared to Raw it's night and day. I'm definitely the target audience for AEW, with the wanting a more edgy show who lets their talent loose. Can't believe I heard swear words on a mainstream wrestling program in 2022 for the love of God.

But to start, we get a wrestling match. What a novelty. As a matter of fact, we get 2 in the first 30 minutes! But in all seriousness, the matches overall were good, despite quite a few minor botches throughout the night, but nothing unforgivable. I even enjoyed the women's match tbh. Being an ECW mark the highlight for me, of course, was Hardy vs Darby.

I got a kick out of Jericho's segment, he still has it on the mic and hasn't missed a beat. MJF is quickly becoming a favorite after 1 show. My friend was excited about this Danhausen character, immediately gets what I perceived to be him getting buried. He reveals to me he's a glorified jobber, I then fully understand why he got put into a squash match. I thought it was clever. Then again if I knew who he was I probably would have seen it coming from a mile away.

But yeah man, coming from my background I thoroughly enjoyed it, time flew by tbh and the 2 hour length is perfect and keeps you wanting more and keeps you excited for what's to come the next week. I'll definitely be tuning in and I'm already invested. It might be too quick to call it but I'm here for the long haul and I think I'm going to enjoy getting back to my roots.

I just want to highlight Jungle Boy btw, his entrance theme and gimmick made me feel like I was watching late 90's wrestling again for a moment. Good stuff, great song.

Ibushi is going to disappear in the Japanese equivalent of Jack Ma.

I also heard he's from a wealthy family, but never got a confirmation.

As much as Cena is hated by certain parts of the fanbase, imagine 2002-2017 WWE without Cena.

Now realize Tanahashi is basically a more beloved more important version of Cena to New Japan. Without Tanahashi, New Japan would pretty much be dead, if not 2022 ROH.

If anyone's got the funds/connections not to be found decapitated in the Sumida river, it's probably Kota. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if New Japan sues the shit out of him for this, Yakuza claims seem like they could really fuck a company's reputation up, on top of the whole "this isn't even 1/1000th of what I feel about New Japan, they'd kill me if I told you even twenty of those things". Kinda worried about his mental state, now that I think about it. That said, it probably wouldn't be surprising if they do have Yakuza connections, it still seems to have reach all over the entertainment industry.

It feels interesting how fucking retarded Inokiism was. "Oh, Pride FC and MMA in general are super big right now, guess I'll job out my pro wrestling guys to random MMA guys and give the main belt to fucking Bob Sapp." A bunch of unique stories seem to have come out of it, like how Shibata escaped the seemingly sinking ship to NOAH, instead of building it back up like Tanahashi, then had to work his way back up after inevitably coming back, only to headbutt himself into the shadow realm as he was about to reach the top.
 
Where do you all get your news from? I want to keep up with developments around the wrestling world even if it's from promotions I'm not actively watching. Not necessarily looking for dirt sheets, although I'm not sure how far removed we are from the late 90's/early 00's and if the lines have been blurred between the two since.

Other than that I sometimes listen to Wrestling Observer Live in the evening. It is streamed free from 3:00-4:00 EST on Sports Byline USA.

Honestly, pick your poison of the various Wrestletubers - most of, if not all of them, just repeat what Meltzer or SRS report, just in far less time than Meltzer…
 
So it’s a safe assumption that it’s gonna be JAS vs BCC/Kingston and P&P in a Stadium Stampede match at DoN. Either that or Blood and Guts.

I'd be less worried about Yakuza taking Ibushi for a ride or beating the disrespect out of him and more worried about Bushiroad deciding to slap a defamation lawsuit at his face and making him unemployable in any Japanese wrestling company, unless he has factual, physical proof that NJPW has Yakuza ties.

I think they'd be an easier way to sit out his contract until he could come play grab ass with his canadian boyfriend than going full retard like this, but ok.
