Back when I worked retail, the term tossed around for theft was "shrinkage." Internal (employee) or external (customer), didn't really matter, but if it reached a certain level Corporate figured your storefront just didn't make sense to keep open any more and swung the axe with no pity. Managers might get offered a job at a location nowhere near the current one, but all the hourlies were out on their asses. Granted it was one factor among many, but it was more important than you'd think.
And this was at a retail chain considered one of the better ones to work at.
All of which is why I'm kind of reading that cartoon and trying very hard not to go complete a-log/into a towering Jesus based rage against that sanctimonious twat. Her actions, assuming she's actually doing what is portrayed, very definitely hurts others and damn well could cost them their job.
