Well to be fair, that was a pretty dumb move of them on the level of "ethics in hammer wielding" except even worse because weeb autists are pretty much the only people watching the show. Literally this is the first I've heard of it, it's not like they did it with some major superhero.

at this point in life I am surrounded by SJWs and none of them have ever mentioned gamergate. not even in passing.

The reddit sub is filled with people who so desperately want to troll SJWs but somehow developed a sense of self-righteousness. They've developed this obsession with trying to prove how much better they are than the SJWs. As a result, they now suffer from delusions that they're going to start a cultural revolution by doing nothing but moaning about SJWs and spamming hashtags. And they think they can create a world where no one ever gets fired for saying stupid things while on the job.
Unfortunately, their self-righteousness also interferes with their trolling. Mocking SJWs is considered a sin by them for some reason, to the point where the mods once tried to ban all discussion of SJWs.

This pisses me off since the refrence to gamergate has already dated the anime. apart from the shitty voice acting, dropping gamer gate would make no sense, not even in a Woolyism way. it's just autistic name dropping

Not to mention, whether you give a damn about Gamergate or not, the translator disregarded the original translation entirely out of spite and bragged out it on Twitter, pissing off GGers and translation purists (the ones who want it to be as accurate to the original as possible) alike.
