It's a consumer boycott. People are telling Gawker's advertisers why they are going to refrain from purchasing their products, rather than let them figure it out on their own.

Judging by the wording of the letter, Budweiser was one of the companies who aren't sponsoring Gawker, but had their logo on their partners page anyway.
 
Oooo this is too good to pass up... SailHatan is a regular poster on the KotakuInAction subreddit. He's been instrumental in helping to bring one of Anita's main harassers to light for his actions.

I think he's finally getting a bit annoyed by the lack of attention anyone is paying to this, so he's also reposted this video with a summary of the events.

SUMMARY :
  • Brazilian journo Mateus makes several accounts, tags #gamergate and makes disgusting threats to Anita
  • GamerGate stands up for Anita, GG'ers get graphic threats as well
  • In comes Mateus, a Brazilian game journo. His site uses same links as the spam accounts
  • FaceBook matches description; same language, uses same lines, "causes controversy for clicks"
  • E-mail Mateus. Sniff IP. Send spam accounts links that sniff IP
  • Multiple threaten-er accounts confirmed same IP as Mateus
  • FBI called, but they say Anita has to report it herself, Brazil police don't care otherwise (Only piece I'm not 100% on, ask @sanc he called FBI)
  • He stops issuing threats out of fear. Continues harassing with click-bait that links to nasty Anita hatred articles.
  • I start "#GamerGate Harassment Patrol" & with GG's help get him spam banned on ~4 accounts.
THEN :
  • Mateus makes a new account, asks me directly why I keep getting him reported
  • We have a convo, he tells me threats are fake, wants to destroy Anita
  • He thinks it's funny they give credit "threats made from across country"
  • Tells me he'll post another video as Mateus himself
  • Video comes up 8 hours later

REACHING ANITA :
  • I reach out to Anita telling her we caught a harasser and I'd love to speak to her
  • Express that I want him removed as badly as she does
  • Other twitter members show support
  • She mutes me (as proven by my inability to retweet or favorite her)

IMPORTANCE :
  • We confirmed his ID, him saying twitter threats are fake
  • Confirmed one ID for multiple graphic Anita threats
  • One threat source troll stopped, closer to goal
  • Can clear GG's name of a lot twitter harassment they're blamed for
  • Anita doesn't care about our hard work or about stopping the harasser

There are a lot of little details in here that are head scratching. They've IP traced this guy to multiple abusive accounts, and the writer in question directly communicated with this guy to complain he was being stopped. He's spoken with the FBI and with Anita - the former saying Anita has to get the ball rolling first, and the latter blocking him on Twitter.

This is the lady who's been scared from her house and terrified to give public talks. You'd think she'd want to stop this guy, this monster who's been threatening her for months solely so he could get more money from clickbait articles he wrote about the subject!

It's a consumer movement targetting corporate sponsors that support their opposing entity is a common and very effective way of pushing your message across, especially when it concerns tearing down a hive of scum and villany such as Gawker which has in the past shown it self to be completly ammoral to the world and only sells to seek ideaology to idiots seeking confirmation bias. And it's certainly a better tactic than going to twitter to bitch about it every ten minutes, calling your consumer base a bunch of white virgin nerds, and doxxing and harrasing anyone who opposes you. As far as I'm concerned the people who have really been ineffective at doing anything is the opposition to Gamergate who have mostly just ignored or insulted their critics and gone on a media tour trying to discredit them. Ironically this media tour only lead to even more exposure than they could've hoped for and their short-sightedness is one of the many contributing factors that have lead to Gamergate's rising notibility.

In the end this will end in one of two ways. Gamergate wins, Gawker folds, and corrupt journalists under their fold have to find a new profession but with the knowledge that their career will forever be tainted by the knowledge that their brand will forever be associated with corruption. Gamergate loses and Anita and her ilk push their moral panic narrative throughout the media. The result being that video game companies lose money during the Christmas season which puts the journalists in hot water with AAA developers who ultimatly look to them for positive coverage. Afterall how is a mother to react when she hears that video games cause her poor little Andre to become a sexist homophobe/racist?

And on the subject of people to interview on the mainstream media I personally would have to pick between Milo (an actual journalist) Christina Sommers (an actual femininist and academic) and Total Bisquit (an actual gamer). And seeing that Anita was largely ineffective at convincing anyone of anything (she was nervous and fidgety the entire time with shifty eyes and stammering speech) the only real thing she has managed to accomplish is more coverage of Gamergate, and with it more supporters.

Obviously since gawker is losing sponsorship it's not a waste of time. I don't really see you laughing at gamergate, you're not defending it, you're not laughing at SJWs. You just keep coming around to express how stupid you think gamergate is. Why are you so interested?

I live around a ton of SJWs and theyre a bunch of mental cases who have found a convenient social weapon that they use to manipulate people and many of them build careers out of it. They're really dangerous once they're concentrated enough. Look around, how many crazy spoiled rich kids are around you? They could turn into SJWs imagine living like that.

They're part of the reason why Occupy Walls Street imploded, we still resent them. Which is why Occupy put their support for Gamergate.

She could of listed a game like Bayonetta or Dead or Alive as sexist games. Didn't she at least complain about Bayonetta before in how it was sexist towards women?
