It'll be interesting to see if #gamergate gets the Colbert bump in the next few days. Also take a look at #namethreegames. Some of those are pretty dang funny.

ED's GNAA
Just wanna point out that GNAA is actually the trolling arm of slashdot but there's no way in hell a site like that would ever endorse such a group. It does explain why they're perhaps the most technically capable troll group and why they're involved in technically managing so many other trolling sites.

Not condoning attacks, but they happen to everyone, male or female.
Also I don't think it was even a gamer that attacked Felicia Day.
Even in that case, there's still the attacks against Brianne Wu and Sarkeesian herself, plus others.

Whatever GamerGate may have started off as, it's since mutated into a mass harassment campaign. It's no longer about ethics in gaming journalism (which had been compromised long before Zoe Quinn, see Jeff Grestmann), it has essentially turned into a decentralized hate group.

The Colbert/Sarkeesian interview is literally the first time I've heard that GamerGate is about making games "softer" for women. He totally whiffed the entire premise of the interview and no one said anything new or important from then on.

Disappointing.
I wonder if we can get him to interview Christina Sommers.

So now we know why Zoe Quinn went to the UK.

To talk at a con in Nottingham.

And also to Boo hoo to the Beeb.

Hope the BBC exercise some of that world famous neutrality and talk to Hotwheels or someone!
One nice thing about the LWs is that they tend to eventually implode via their own actions. Give it time, I'm fairly sure that she'll wind up trying the full Fish if she doesn't keep her head down. We know she has at least three seperate groups investigating her.

Even in that case, there's still the attacks against Brianne Wu and Sarkeesian herself, plus others.

Several of those were proven to be false-flags already. Specifically, several of the Sarkeesian threats came from Brazilian site Celebrinando and several of the Wu threats came from SomethingAwful's FYAD. Click that link for more info - it's fairly exhaustive.

Let me be clear: Even false-flag harassment is harassment, and harassment is likewise bullshit, but to conflate an entire group of people with smear campaigns specifically intended to provoke the exact response you're giving is just giving those who are trying to stir the shit the exact thing they're craving.

You're better than that.

Commentary: Calculating the cost of GamerGate, many losers, 2 potential big winners

Color me shocked once again as a Chinese tech magazine has one of the most comprehensive and measured analyses of this situation. The main point, the delicious irony, is that Games Journalists and Gaming Websites are potentially causing major damage to software and hardware manufacturers by fabricating a new moral panic.

So much so that The Big Three are quietly adjusting their year-end numbers in the face of people not buying their products because they are boycotting the situation to punish journalists, or because Average Mom who listens to shrill harpies breathlessly whine about evil vidya players doesn't want HER little one to join that nasty group. Here's a bicycle instead, go get some exercise.

Concerns raised in a previous report that allowing the schism between the gaming press and their core audience to fester could lead to real economic impacts for the gaming industry during the holiday season appear to have had merit. Major advertisers are being dragged into the argument against their will, and some of the major players in the industry have announced conservative outlooks in their financial forecasts corresponding to the final quarter of 2014.

Remember: Vidya Journalism is about everything EXCEPT video games. They don't give a shit if THEIR OWN ACTIONS are going to hurt the very industry they purport to work for. What does that matter to them? So what if Microsoft has a bad fourth quarter and is in the red because of it? That's not what they are interested in because gaming and games and gameplay needs, NEEDS, to take a backseat to outrage and shaming and fake inclusiveness and feelings.

Can I point out the obvious. Wu has has male privilege most of her life and the sorts of people who would run her out for being a woman are the same folks who would insist she's a man.

Regarding this whole thing about the harrassment and all... I don't defend it, but I get annoyed at the accusations that it has to be from #GamerGate and not by anyone else. The fact is, people like Anita Sarkeesian already had haters long before #GamerGate, it didn't take the movement for people to yell at her even before then. Of course people like Leigh Alexander and Brianna Wu are drawing more attention now because of the controversy, but what I don't like is how it's become so easy to assume everyone from #GamerGate is in on it.

I'm a supporter, but I'm not part of any social media or *chan or whatever. How am I supposed to help with the trolling if I don't know where it's happening? And incidents like Polytron's hacking led to "uh, what?" reactions as well. It jusst seems to me like most of #GamerGate is not interested in hacking, but in fighting fair, if only to spite the opposition who insists they are fighting dirty.

I don't believe every harrassing or death threat is false by default, but I do give a foot to skepticism as well. When Brianna Wu posts that she's being threatened before the threats happen, it's weird and I'm not going to believe in it. I admit that there's a chance Milo bought a syringe and acted like he was attacked, but since nobody can bring evidence in favor of that view, why should I not assume he's saying the truth?

This is just my view.

So today, a friend of mine who works at the school district I work for, and someone who's not affiliated with Gamergate at all, who said thus:

"So I saw Anita Sarkeesian on Colbert last night, talking about that Gamergate thing. He asked her to name three games that actually showed sexism, and she couldn't even name one. She doesn't know what she's talking about, does she?"

I like the way she dodged the question but she just kept on about how "women are being terrorized" and "gaming status quo is being challenged and they want it to be a boys club"
There was no boost here. He did next to nothing to challenge her claims. I dont know why anyone thinks he is. I think people are going to ignore the fact that 'She can't name games' and the fact that she just wants all games to stop having "damsels in distress" as plot points. They're going to listen to all the cheers she got. Nobody's going to listen anyway. Will people ever learn to shut the fuck up and discuss rationally, and not have these Jesus free-for-alls?

That's kind of bitchy. Budweiser was on a Gawker site so lets e-mail them to bitch? Idk just kind of a waste of time.

Good on Anita for getting on Colbert. Still showing she can hustle her way onto real media. Still waiting on KillaPwner420 to get on CNN.

Keep in mind, the studio was full of listen-and-believers. The average watcher isn't fooled so quickly by a woman that can't even name examples of sexist games. It just show how much she really is dependent on McIntosh when her entire argument falls apart when he's not around to write the buzzfords for her.

Pack it in boys it's all over :(

As an activist movement with the ability to inspire positive change, Gamergate is dead. Its constituents and its hashtag will remain — and I suspect will be, for sometime, as fierce, aggressive, and vocal — but these remainders represent a hate group and its banner, associated with bigotry and cruelty.

Gamergate died ironically from what it most wanted: mainstream exposure.
