good 'nuff for me
the fuck is gamergate tho

It's the name Adam Baldwin gave to the whole ridiculous explosion of information that journos were suppressing. It got picked up and used as a hashtag to organise boycotts etc... Or to label everyone a misogynistic, racist terrorist. It's pretty flexible.

Edit: Damn you man-pig and your swift typing hooves.

i seee. okay, i guess that answers that, thank you guys. anything else i need to know on the situation?

#NotYourShield was created by a black guy because he disapproved of the spin the media was putting on things - that gamers were mostly white misogynists who oppress everyone else - but you wouldn't know that so easily because the media insists that 4chan started it.

Speaking of 4chan, shortly after this mess began, they donated over 20000 dollars to a group trying to promote more games made by women [by helping women make games] that the media's been ignoring and created a character called Vivian James [pronounced Video Games] to be a part of it. Yet it still doesn't count as helping women because they're misogynists.

This shit has been going on for way too long, right?
indeed it has, but then what do you expect when the game journalists mass publish "GAMERS R MISGOGYNERD MANBABY" articles for 2 months. hell Gamergate would have died witin a week if journalists behaved like mature adults and did something to allay the concerns being raised while not treating those raising said concerns llike shit

Yeah but unfortunately The Man and The Establishment chose to pick a fight with people who's hobbies can involve:
  • copious research
  • tracking down hidden information
  • Grinding hundreds or thousands of hours
  • repetitive tasking to achieve goals
  • competitive events against other humans
Crotchet Weekly readers probably wouldn't have made it to the end of week one before calling it a day. Our side has people who have played WoW for 2000 hours. You couldn't have picked a worse group to fight a war of attrition against.

Aren't they supposed to write reviews of video games and stuff instead? I mean it seems kind of dumb to give so much ink to such a dumb personal drama story.

because zoe was in their clique, they defended her with utmost rabid vindictiveness from all criticism. They still havent learned how trying to use their position for their own crusades and vendettas pisses people off

Heh, I guess that's a good point. When you've spent 12 hours straight level grinding or gold farming, what's a few hours doing opposition research, multiplied by all the other people who do the same?

I don't really like this article. It doesn't say anything new and it gets a few major facts wrong. For example: The other side (Anti-GG) didn't create gamergate. That was Adam Baldwin, who is Pro-GG. While there isn't a single leader, per-say, there are folks who are pretty major in it.

Also I don't agree with the whole "trust will never be recovered" sentiment. Trust will resume, but the culture will always remain cynical about the publicity sector of the industry.
It isn't much of an article, but it's related to an attempt of tactical re-framing. Apparently people should not be called anti- or pro-GG, and Gamergate should not be called a movement, but a consumer revolt and a scandal like Watergate.

There's a Twitlonger about this. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1screud

They're being angry babies and not reporting on news relevant to developers who support GG.

Read the social justice warriors thread.
Realize that these people are now in positions of power. They write for the media, they almost control the media, and they moderate for places like Wikipedia and Github. They have no qualms against blatantly lying and abusing their power to shut down dissenting opinions and only promote people who follow their political agenda. There's even evidence that an admin on Github has been leaking personal information on people he disagrees with.

The problem is that most people don't realize how deep the corruption goes.

Wow. 137 pages and counting. I'm curious, is this whole drama mostly among Americans or the Anglosphere (USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland)?

(I'm not implying anything offensive here, I'm just curious.)

Probably, for the most part. But it's not a mainstream thing. Like if you asked 100 random people somewhere like NYC what they thought about gamergate, you might only have 2 or 3 people who know what the hell you're talking about, and those would be gamers, SJWs, or people who follow internet drama. I don't think any of my IRL even know about it at all.

Mostly the Anglosphere with some additional non-speaking parts of europe here and there.

I was specifically referring to Japan, actually.
