So we're just going to pretend that multiple journalism/streaming/gaming companies have specifically re-written policies for greater transparency specifically due to your own colossal fuck-ups, Gawker? So Gawker tried to respond to a discussion regarding journalistic ethics, a discussion which their own publications is in the centre of, by invalidating journalistic ethics with the headline alone. Good job Gawker.

The "and Why?" in the headline is unnecessary; by answering what Gamergate is, it's naturally expected in a journalistic piece to automatically explain the why to give the subject of the article context. The "and Why?" seems to have been included to subtly express a pre-conceived opinion on Gamergate which is confirmed within the real article itself. The real meaning of the headline is implied to be "Why should Gamergate exist? We know we're in the right, can you not see how wrong all these geeks are?". Not exactly objective.

Let's also look at that word geek for a second. Now obviously due to current trends, when people think of geeks they picture a stereotypical "ironically cool" geek commonly portrayed within popular media. However the accurate definition of geek as defined in the Oxford Dictionary is "An unfashionable or socially inept person". By stating the article is there to explain to "Non-Geeks", you are already implying that the only people involved in Gamergate are socially inept, therefore are inaccurate in their judgements. Nice use of stereotyping to discredit the opinions of a group of people.

There are so many things about this article that completely contradict ideas of journalistic integrity it's embarrassing. I'll give it too them, they're certainly fluent in the art of shit-stirring and getting attention but yeah, kinda hard to take these arguments seriously. Sorry.
 
Big shocker the internet's retarded tabloid has a vested interest in letting shitty practices fly. These are the idiots that ran a piece on their network defending clickbait as totally cool and great.

And remember, for all their talk about protecting the wimmenz and condemning the neckbeards Gawker is the site that got their fucking name made--under then female editor Emily Gould--for making it easy to stalk and harass famous men and women. And kept their "stalker" tag gleefully updated until about 2010. Or that the site's previous editor in chief, who only left least year, is famous for leaking a famous individual's nudes after his source explicitly told him not to. You get the picture--Gawker trying to say they and their network are ethical journalists period is like a McDonalds manager bitching that his restaurant doesn't have a 3 star rating in the Michelin Guide. It's hilariously delusional.

No! You mean the same Gawker that is currently being sued by their unpaid interns while they did their best to hide it? The same Gawker that writes about unpaid interns at other companies with absolutely zero irony and tags them with things like "class warfare"?

Brianna Wu, better known as the lady who constructed a cookie-cutter meme to try and shame GamerGate, and left for a couple of hours because she didn't "feel safe" for being called a tard - was perusing people discussing and criticising her game on 8chan, and just posted her own doxx and created a fake Twitter to harass herself. Now she's trying to get people to lend support to buy her game in defiance of this.

Basically, she just pulled a Zoe Quinn.

So thanks to her little charade, she's now gaining money and publicity for her otherwise completely unknown game, negative reception is rallied against GamerGate, and you can expect an article by every Gawker media outlet in the next few days decrying how bad they are. You know, like what happened with Sarkheesian, Quinn, and Fish. See a pattern emerging?

I really hope - with any faith that I still harbour for humanity at stake - that this backfires on them tremendously.

There's a lot of "me too" going on. I just popped onto the hashtag and took a look. One of the tweets was about how their "friend" was getting a lot of harassment and you should totally check out her game at [website] and it would be funny if the harassment backfired by creating more sales, guise! And of course they were called out on their bullshit immediately.

There's also this
A dev(Roguestar) did an interview with The Escapist. A bunch of SJWs threw a shitfit and pressured them to take it down because some out of context IRC screenshots at the beginning of the whole thing. But, of course, the internet never forgets.
