Here in the dark cyberfuture EA and IGN are the bastions of rational discourse and journalism.

Because EA is all about money. They know they can't make money off SJWs but they also know enough not to blatantly go against them and stir too much shit. That's the one reassuring thing about a company like EA. They can be cold as fuck when they want to be. They'll buy out studios that make buzzworthy titles then strip them down because at the end of the day it's about making money but that also means making gamers happy to some degree. You can say they're maintaining a level of mediocrity in gaming and not using their resources to actually try to be innovative but even they know not to spit on the people that keep throwing money at them.

EA did one. It was weird to see them telling these magazines to chill and stop antagonizing gamers.

EA and other publishers use magazines and sites to promote their games and influence attitudes. If said publications drive away their readers with this stuff, that makes it harder for the publishers to reach that audience.
