Would the neighbor's facepalm when they see Chris return to the house?
Well none of them would be happy to see his ugly mug again, has Chris provided anything back to his wider community?

If anything all he's done is just irritate the nearby residents and lumped responsibilities onto them. People from outside of town treating that part of Ruckersvile like a tourist destination, having to tolerate a poorly maintained house on a court dragging down property values, being dragged into taking care of family matters involving Chris and Barb multiple times (such as the house fire, Barb attempting to steal a neighbours dog, that time Chris subjected his own views on some neighbourhood kid, some of the neighbours looking after the pets for months on end whilst Barb/Chris are nowhere to be seen etc).

What's ironic is that according to Chris and Bob, they placed Ruckersville in one of their conspiracy theories as people who "persecute" the family. I think it was that thinking that resulted in the Chandler's move from Richmond back to Ruckersville. This time, there was no theory; the Chandlers' are hated because of the actions of two of their family members, but they are too stubborn to ever see they were the cause as to why the town has turned into a tourist attraction.

Edit:

I'm sure Chris would be grateful for the neighbors that took in the animals. The neighbors however, would regret giving the animals back, knowing they suffered under Chris' care, and would go back to that suffering.

Chris and Cole will inherit it. They will also inherit the debt on it.
It used to be said on the Farms that in America people can’t inherit debt.

barb will probably be dead by the time he is released from jail.
You think she’s going to die within a month or so?

I really hope he’s too lazy to want them back or too lazy to fight his neighbors if they refuse to return them.

Im not so sure but im pretty sure he would be shocked to find him back in the neighborhood barb will probably be dead by the time he is released from jail.
For god knows why people like Barb live a long time. My theory is her bitterness is the only thing keeping her alive at this point.

Demolition is expensive. Also I'm assuming the new empty lot would be in a new development in Ruckersville (like 14BLC was when it was first built), not just a random plot of land, so planning for the utilities would already be in place.

Also the utilities at 14BLC are very minimal. We know it has no sewer connection, and I've never seen a gas meter on the property. Likely it just has just water, electric, and phone service, and who the hell needs a land line phone service any more?
what kind of broadband access is available?

You inherit from an estate, and that estate carries debt. You don't have to inherit the debt, but if you want anything from the estate, you must settle the debt, or assume it.

In the case of the house, Chris will have to settle Barb's debt to inherit the house, as well as assume the mortgage. If Chris wants to keep the house it will basically have to be refinanced. Alternatively, Chris can rent the house from the estate and have the estate continue to pay the bills, if the math works out.

If they lived in a state with a large homestead exemption, then it wouldn't be an issue. Chis could have the estate declare bankruptcy, but the Virginia homestead exemption is very small, so all but $30k of the equity can be claimed by the creditors.

Unless someone with financial chops structures payments on the debt on Barb's estate, Chris will lose the house.

EDIT: Though if Chris and Barb have someone smart helping them, they can move the house to a trust before Barb dies.

This. Chris and Cole wouldn't inherit all of 14BLC itself. They would inherit whatever is left of the equity in 14BLC after the bank gets its money back out of it. Or they can refinance or take over the mortgage, and when I say "they", I mean Cole. Technically Chris could have a claim on half the equity on the house after such a refinance, but there are ways of reducing that to nothing.

Cole would make the most out of 14BLC by assuming the mortgage and flipping it, but he might not want to bother with all that. I could easily see Cole forcing the sale of 14BLC out from under Chris to grab his share of the equity and run. Cash in hand.

That would be excellent, chimpout assured.

I’d bet you six c-quarters that she’s too lazy to have made one.

This.

Barb is WAY too irresponsible and lazy to have made out a will. She will die intestate, and then the probate court will gobble up as much of the value of 14BLC as they can before splitting the leftovers between Cole and Chris (assuming Cole cares about getting some free real estate).

Bob married a winner here. Despite Barb treating him like shit, if Bob was still alive, since he put up with a lot of Barb's shit, there's no way he would allow her not to leave Chris without a safety net. In an alternative timeline, I wish Chris would have been kidnapped and be a black market baby, just to be adopted by more competent parents.
