Bob married a winner here. Despite Barb treating him like shit, if Bob was still alive, since he put up with a lot of Barb's shit, there's no way he would allow her not to leave Chris without a safety net. In an alternative timeline, I wish Chris would have been kidnapped and be a black market baby, just to be adopted by more competent parents.
When Bob died and left the nest egg, do we know if Bob had a will? If Bob had a will, I could see Bob having the lawyer draft up a will as well for Borb. But, even if he did, who fuckin knows where it would be in the mountains of barbage at 14BC.

Well none of them would be happy to see his ugly mug again, has Chris provided anything back to his wider community?

If anything all he's done is just irritate the nearby residents and lumped responsibilities onto them. People from outside of town treating that part of Ruckersvile like a tourist destination, having to tolerate a poorly maintained house on a court dragging down property values, being dragged into taking care of family matters involving Chris and Barb multiple times (such as the house fire, Barb attempting to steal a neighbours dog, that time Chris subjected his own views on some neighbourhood kid, some of the neighbours looking after the pets for months on end whilst Barb/Chris are nowhere to be seen etc).
Stranger things have happened. John Kennelly, infamous for reaching the esteemed and rare accolade of two-time alumnus of To Catch a Predator, is protected and beloved in his home town despite his disgusting crimes. The truth is often stranger than fiction, and I wouldn't be surprised in either case for his community wanting to either embrace Chris or lynch him. Highly likely he just ends up pissing the wrong neighbor off or assaulting someone and getting pounded.
Maybe. Maybe not. If Cole forces the sale, Chris will lose 14BLC, but he would get half the equity. That could buy a lot of legos (even though he wouldn't have anywhere to put them).
And Chris would still make dozens of videos blaming Cole for not taking care of him or sending him his giant pile of gold even if it just went to Smithee's back rent. Just don't look at the fifteen tonnes of Lego in his broken down car.
it’s also not out of the realm of possibility that Barb just left Cole out of her will
She doesn't have one in all probability which means it goes to all immediate heirs without a care for her wishes.

On Chris, no clue about Virginia law, but where I studied the courts would make it their mission to ensure every single penny is squeezed out of an estate before someone is allowed to live of government cheques. If you die with real estate and other equity, your indigent child gets the house every time. Cole will probably get a large stake in the property, but if I was someone with any power over the situation I'd tell Cole to go screw before Chris gets another dime from tax payers to fund his lifestyle. In every situation, even if Barb filed a will specifically excluding him after the rape, he gets a part of the property.

He left the nest egg and planned his and Barb's spot at the columbarium. I would think he made a will leaving the house to Barb, but unfortunately that will wouldn't work (someone correct me on this) since she mortgaged the house. If someone has to verify it, unless Barb's layer has a copy of it (if that lawyer is alive), good luck trying to find it inside the house.

This.

Barb is WAY too irresponsible and lazy to have made out a will. She will die intestate, and then the probate court will gobble up as much of the value of 14BLC as they can before splitting the leftovers between Cole and Chris (assuming Cole cares about getting some free real estate).
We all know the plan used to be Chris would inherit the house. But after all the mortgages and shit the banks gonna take it now. I doubt Cole would want the god forsaken place.

Bob married a winner here.

Bob did a lot in his life, but his most important accomplishment was to be a negative example to others on what NOT to do.

When Bob died and left the nest egg, do we know if Bob had a will?

I believe Bob had a will leaving everything to Barb. Had he died intestate, his children from his previous marriage could have taken a share of 14BLC (assuming they gave a fuck). Also we would have heard at least some weird misinterpretation from Chris of things going through probate. Moreover, I can't see someone who would go to the effort of making pre-paid funeral arrangements for himself and his wife to not have a will somehow.

I could see Bob having the lawyer draft up a will as well for Borb.

Barb is a different story. It is highly unlikely that she has a will. Bob couldn't have had a will made out for her without her cooperation. and I don't see Barb cooperating. She simply doesn't give enough fucks about anyone other than herself to care what happens to the vast chandler fortune after she dies.

What car? Son-Chu is gone.

Chris' SSDI is untouchable (at least until Social Security goes belly up). What I see is Chris' many many credit card accounts coming for their money. They can't touch his SSDI, but they can definitely tap any other assets like whatever he inherits from 14BLC.

I haven't checked recently, but I suspect Chris' outstanding credit card debt is a significant portion of whatever equity he would inherit from 14BLC.

I doubt Cole would want the god forsaken place.

Free real estate is free real estate. I can see Cole wanting the money from the sale of the property, if not the property itself.

If they were forced to sell, he'd buy something ridiculous.

The courts here don't get you off welfare, but if you're on it they prioritise you for real estate over other heirs, even if the will said Chris gets the hoard and Cole the house. They'd still end up with owings at the end anyway, and whatever they do receive Chris can't pay Cole for his share and he wont save the share that Cole gives him/wont receive it when Cole runs off with the proceeds of the house sale.

Cole's living arrangements are secure, Chris' are not, so he gets priority.

Chris needs to declare bankruptcy NOW, before he has any meaningful assets to seize.

That will also have the added benefit of making it hard for him to get a credit card in the future.

Cole has to heat Carnegie Hall with something. Money to piss and burn does not come from "good" endings; those are total garbage.

You seem to be mistaken. Cole doesn't live at Carnegie Hall, he lives at Carnagee Hall, it has a very nice fireplace.

If they were forced to sell, he'd buy something ridiculous.

It would be Cole forcing the sale.

Where Cole and Chris are concerned, there is no "they", and I'm certain Cole prefers it that way.

Cole's living arrangements are secure, Chris' are not, so he gets priority.

Irrelevant.

For one thing, the probate court is on the state level. Chris' SSDI is federal. The state of Virginia doesn't give a fuck about Chris' SSDI because they're not paying it. And that assumes the court gives a fuck about Chris anyways. Also the bank has an interest in 14BLC, which Chris is unable to pay off. If anything, the court will force the sale to end the debt, give Cole his share, and take Chris' tard farm fees out of his.

The courts don't give a fuck about Chris. They just don't want him to be their problem any more. Favoring him over Cole in the estate does not make Chris not be their problem.

Chris needs to declare bankruptcy NOW, before he has any meaningful assets to seize.

There are all sorts of things Chris (and Barb) should be doing (or should have been doing) financially. Setting up a trust to preserve his assets would also be a good idea etc.

But he won't.

It's a shame there isn't someone financially competent like Null to manage Chris' finances for him so he doesn't end up homeless and destitute.

That will also have the added benefit of making it hard for him to get a credit card in the future.

I see that happening in the future no matter what. It will happen the easy way or the hard way, but it will happen. Chris' credit worthiness will run out. Actually, who am I kidding? Chris will let it happen the hard way.

Cole has to heat Carnegie Hall with something.

It's certainly putting it to better use than giving it to Chris and Barb.

he lives at Carnagee Hall, it has a very nice fireplace.

I hear the heating bills are a bit extreme.

Chris having meaningful assets? That's a pretty good joke! That's on par with suggesting that Russell Greer could have a meaningful relationship with a woman or Louis Gagliardi finding meaningful employment. Maybe in Bizarro World, but never in this reality.

He will in the moments between Barb dying and his creditors wanting their money back.

There's nothing stopping Chris from acquiring assets. He just can't keep them, because he's Chris.

Possibly, assuming that Barb's relatives aren't trying to help her eliminate her debt and put together a fund to pay for a decent old folks home by trying to work something out with the bank. And even if they aren't, that's also assuming that Chris would be willing to take on her debts just so he could have a shot at owning the house. He might actually make the smart choice for once in his life and decide it isn't worth paying off who knows how many tens of thousands of dollars Barb owes just to have the house, or he might understand that he has no hope of actually staying in the black.

Split what the -$13? How much do you think they're going to get for a trash filled burnt out house that's literally rotting inside and out, that's not paid off and has dozens of debts applied to the estate, countless loans of which Chris personally took out, and all of barbs debt which will be taken out first to pay the creditors.

It's going to cost the bank money when they take it

The house is worthless. There is a slim chance that it is salvageable but let's face it, most people would walk in and just level that place. The only thing worth anything is the property the house sits on. I don't know how much is left on that mortgage, but because of the state of the house there is no equity to be had. Recent tax assessments put it at around 150k but that is without seeing the inside of the house so keep that mind.

Basically if the bank takes the house back, it will be thrown up in a short sale and sold for dirt.

It's a shame there isn't someone financially competent like Null to manage Chris' finances for him so he doesn't end up homeless and destitute.

It's a shame he turned out to be Judas, and betrayed his holy duty as Chris' personal concierge.

It's been eight months since Barb played chicken with the 18-wheeler and lost. I think we'd have seen some movement in that direction by now. I don't know why we haven't seen any developments (It's what I'd be doing were I Tom). I can only assume Barb is being difficult (which implies she's still cognizant enough to be difficult).

that's also assuming that Chris would be willing to take on her debts just so he could have a shot at owning the house.

I'm assuming Chris won't be able to manage the mortgage on the house, even if the bank, by some miracle or mistake, lets him assume the mortgage.

All I'm saying is that in the time between inheritance and foreclosure, Chris will have real, recoverable assets (that his creditors could go after), but that time will be very short. There are things Chris could do today to help protect those future assets, such as declaring bankruptcy now while he has nothing (as Pointless Sperg points out), but Chris won't do them.

Chris has all the financial acumen of a potato with a lego addiction.

Tax assessments live in the world of fantasy real estate.

And poor Null never even got his thirty pieces of silver.

Maybe we do need a 14BLC/inheritance faq. *sigh* People forget the place was fixed up after the fire. The same points about reselling formerly horrendous heaps must be restated every few pages. Many people got their knowledge of inheritance laws from TV.
