Spain won from their defense and constant pressure, of which he played very little part. Not only was he not the best player on the team, he wasn't even the best 19 year old on the team.

I'm not saying he's not good, I'm saying he's very much overrated at least in this tournament.
 
Messi always reminds me of Spartacus from Lazy Town. He's got the same good guy aura.

Of course Cristiano Ronaldo is Robbie Rotten.
 
You know what the funniest thing about Messi is? He's probably going to be dragged to the next World Cup too.

He's a complete shadow of his former self and it was fucking hilarious every single time Argentina got a free kick or a corner and everyone was expecting the Messi wonder goal and instead he just sheepishly passed it to someone 5 yards away.

Granted, he very nearly got the goal of the tournament with that shot that just missed the corner, but that was after being anonymous for 99% of the match. I think we're about to hit the stage where a top team will straight up stop marking him, as they know he can't move any faster than a brisk pace nowadays and isn't the terrifying explosive player who could get the ball on the halfway line, take on five players and score a wonder goal anymore. Hell, he hasn't been that for a good 3 years now.

Get real. Messi is just a fucking midget who plays OK by today standards and is propped out by marketing by the FIFA. He is just a mediocre player now and it shows.

I have no idea why they thought the Kane/Bellingham strat of “do nothing and expect to win” was one to emulate given how they beat England a week ago who was using it.

“But it worked wonders against Mexico!” None of these teams are Mexico; the most proud and arrogant team/fandom with the most pathetic league of achievements and gold to show for such egos.

He should have retired after 2022 in my view, at least from international football.

Leave on a high note than a low note. All Messi proved in this World Cup is that Angel Di Maria was the actual brains on Argentina's offense capabilities.

Messi most likely signed off on the haramball plan and it buttfucked him hard, given Messi dealt with parking the bus during his Uefalona days and should have known better.

Instead its a repeat of the 2010 and 2014 finals combined.

And it doesnt help in Argentina's case that defeating Cape Verde and having the most jewy of jews supporting you, just makes his second final loss more lulzy.
