Neymar was never at both messi and Cristiano level but even then I don't think he will be mad at Messi success since they are actually friends.

Now I do believe that Neymar would snicker at Cristiano failure, even more considering the circumstances of Cristiano Ronaldo being BTFO with a white good team and only a single goal in the playoffs, thing that Neymar also got but with 50 minutes in the entire tournament.

Cristiano was always my favorite player but he should have learned to let go. The last world cup he was already past his prime, it was time to retire. Its really frustating how much talent Portugal currently has, probably the best mid field in the world, but the entire offensive is cockblocked by trying to incorporate a boomer that keeps hanging on. They really played like shit and besides Leao they lacked any kind of bite on top even though they won't ever let go of the ball. They played every match as if they wanted a 0-0 draw, just holding on to the damn ball and not doing anything with it, it makes zero sense.

Lets not kid ourselves, it wasn't Cristiano who was bad, it was everyone else too and he can't do magic to make the ball appear in his feet without the clownery that was that Portuguese midfield. Before the WC, I was WISHING that Brazil had 1 midfielder that Portugal had, literally any one since we basically didn't had one at all and suffered because of this, having to play reactively instead because that was what we had.

Then after watching every single portugal game (no uzbekistan one). Portugal was dreadful. Portugal deserved to lose against croacia so damn much and the fact that your best player in the cup was never even used against spain is insanity, even more when it was a younger speedy team. This wasn't croatia, it was SPAIN.

Portugal elimination for me it is easily the worst of all cup. Not only because of the poor football but also because it didn't had the problems that germany and brazil had with their squad and lack of training window.

This very same Portugal won nations league last year and this is what they showed us? Pathetic

i never said it was just him but the offensive was specially bad and he didn't bring anything to the table. He's been dead weight for a while when other players that present more dynamism on top could take his spot. Lets also not pretend he didn't miss dozens of balls and dozens of shots he would have 100% put inside if he was younger Cristiano, he used to be able to carry the team, now the team carries him. It was no coincidence that taking him out during Croatia paid off.

The first game was possibly the worst ever game i've seen the Portugal team play in over 20 years, it was embarassing. Only god knows what the fuck is going on behind closed doors to lead to this.
 
I'd argue that it makes sense to try to highlight your star player, especially if he is one of the greatest of all time. This world cup is a pretty good one in terms of star quality. Kane carries England, Messi carries Argentine, Haaland carries Norway, the French are carried by Mbappe, Dembele and Ollise, Vinicius for Brazl (kind of until he didn't) and they still had Endrick.

And in the match against Uzbekistan Portugal even had some tricks in their sleeves. There was the freekick goal where everyone thought Ronaldo is going to shoot, surprise, he didn't and they scored. There was another freekick later in the game where they tried to pull off another trick but they just didn't score although it was a good chance. Why not doing the same when you get a corner? Make it clear that you are trying to get Ronaldo in position if it isn't clear by default that fucking Ronaldo is the target player but have another player be the actual target. Have two players to be the target so the opponent doesn't know who it will be while Ronaldo plays the bait. Funnily enough Germany did that during the Curacao match where Schlotterbeck was the target player for corner kicks - and he scored. For some unknown reason we totally gave that up in all other matches. Sure, Schlotterbeck got injured but nobody can convince me you couldn't have pulled this off with Tah as replacement. Nobody can convince me that Portugal doesn't have the tools to pull this off bc they have. I'd even say just bring Ronaldo from the bench as joker and I'd ask why they didn't do that but I guess I know the answer anyways.
