we at least have the passion part in spades... when it comes to college football. Dare I say college football fandom rivals football support in some nations
Which nations? Because depending of the place I don't think even collage football fans are willing to die and we aren't even talking about south america or eastern europe here. The average football fan in a situation of direct confront would be willing to literally brawl and help a guy that he knows because he supposes he also supports his team.

(There is a gigantic brawl in 1996 in a juniors final in Brazil that one guy died and you can see people from both sides helping him because they thought he was from their club at different points of the brawl. And it wasn't the main club, just the juniors)

The truth is that football is much more complex than the american sports in ways that Americans can't understand, that goes against marketability and it goes against getting more money. A simple example is how football stadiums aren't always full because they choose to not even sell the areas where there is direct frontier with the visitors. So there is an entire buffer area just to separate it from them. This doesn't make money but it is the safest decision.

Last Copa América finals was a great example of how out of touch football culture in the US was. Things that South America knows by heart into how organize a match was completely fucked there. And that was a nation's level competition that people are way more civil and expensive than normal club match.

The entire sports culture is different. Americans like their half time shows, cheerleaders, jets flying over stadiums.

Footballs just want their game and nothing else. The clubs WC that was held last year was full of cringe americanisms like being called over to walk inside the pitch with some woman calling your name. Meanwhile in football you always walk as the team and holding hands of the children. Trying to make the sport more americanlike is a complete mistake.

Bosnia just advanced to the World Cup over Italy on penalties, 4-2. Italy had a red card at the 40' on which the Bosnians could not capitalize- the game ended 1-1, and the extra time was scoreless.

Italy's last World Cup appearance was in 2014.
When I think Brazil has it bad, Italy said: hold my salami and proceed to sit in my salami holding hand without lube.

Quite pathetic.

Also Brazil defeated Croatia 3x1. Endrick got in the last 15 minutes got a penalty and an assistance.

He NEEDS to be there

Yeah you're probably right the more I think about it. We still are passionate about college football though (and pro football for that matter. baseball/basketball/hockey are more tame in comparison), just maybe in our American way. Certainly not enough to plunge a knife into someone's abdomen or have a riot over it lol. We do get violence every now and again though just on a much smaller scale, and people do die here just not often enough for it to be a problem. I know it's hard to see from the outside looking in but it's the same the other way around, I can't truly grasp how an Argentinian lives and breathes and what he's willing to sacrifice for his football club, I just know it usually means more to them.

I think a part of this dichotomy between America and most the rest of the world is socioeconomics but that's a bigger conversation to be had, I don't think anybody (including myself) want to have a dialogue like that on kiwifarms lol.

It happens so damn much that there are studies over the politics and alliances over TO alliances and rivalries. Sometimes different TO (ultra factions) of the same tram have different alliances and they act as support for their allies when they go to their city in order to watch the game.

And this map doesn't even include the other south american clubs that have their rivalries and alliances between each other and brazilian TOs.

To not even say about ambushes in the middle of fucking nowhere and getting to the fight in the middle of the city.

This year it happened something so bad that CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION imposed a ban over two TO because when they were fighting some fled to their criminal organization area. Not even the police or state, criminals got sick of it lol.

I dont even think it is related to this, it is straight up cultural aspects. If you go to the stadium and sit there, at those moment they are your people, no matter who they are. Class stops existing during the game, all they want is to win. After the game you can see class in different light but during the game is almost inexistent.

Americans don't view it like this because for them any sports game is just another entertainment. Let me give you one example: it never occured even the thought of me stop supporting my club to change for other team. I can watch one billion games of Premier League, La Liga, Champions League or whatever it is. I can appreciate the game but don't feel the same feeling as it is to watch my club in a state friendly that has 0 value in the long run.

When I watch these european matches I feel like I am a client in a restaurant, the game may be better than what I got at home but I would never have the same investment as my own. That is why bandwagon practically doesn't exists here.

If my club stopped existing for any reason, I would be like a client for then rest of my life. But I would never support a club after. People would consider divorce, murder, amputation first over changing their clubs.

Now in US, if the owner decides to change their city for whatever reason he just can. And that is one of the things that just wouldn't happen here, one of the reasons is that the clubs itself are older than the people supporting them, so there is an element of heritage, you will support probably the club that you father and grandfather supported. Only in the 2000s people started to support also a club in europe for the younger generation (guess what, mostly real madrid and Barcelona) in the 2010s that younger people started supporting english clubs too. However they will always favor their national club here over international clubs. I could never support any club and the closer that I got was a minor club of my own city when I was very young. (I still like then tho)

I don't know much about american sports culture so I could compare more, but all I know are so different I don't think they will ever bridge the gap.

I actually think americans support their USA team in olympics or even the WC in ways that are better than brazil because somehow they feel more proud and patriotic. If I cared about brazilian national football as much As I care about my club, In would kill myself in these last years.

And I got almost relegated last season lol

Italian boomers on suicide watch.
Thats what 20 years of ngubu worship and fuck fuck political games get you.
The solutions being proposed are more politics and niggers of course.

Iraq and Congo DR got in too.
I kinda feel bad for Bolivia, but they lost fair and square.

Also, rumour has it that Iran is either walking back on their forfeit, or is being goaded by Infantino himself to participate.
This is shaping up to be a memorable World Cup for all the wrong reasons.

The French model is terrible for France but great for the national team. But that's just Europe in a nutshell at this point, isn't it? I expect Engerlund to have at least 8 blacks in their starting XI by 2042 with names like Saka, Eze, Konsa, and Solanke taking up more space and Italy to have a more Ivorian shade of white to their average complexion by the same time judging by some of the names in their youth sides.

Oh thank god. I’ve still not forgiven the pizza-scoffing bastards for knocking us out of the World Cup in 1990. Plus dire, boring, ten defenders and a goalie style of play. Fuck Italy.

If you need another reason to hate Italy, how about Donnaruma (Italian keeper) trying to rip up Vasilj's (Bosnian keeper) cheat sheet during the penalties?
The Manchester City goalkeeper's behaviour towards his opposite number, Nikola Vasil, has sparked criticism. Shortly after Esposito missed his penalty, a heated argument broke out between the two 'keepers, and the reason behind the animated conversation was about at such a pivotal moment has now been revealed.

According to BILD, Donnarumma snuck into the goalmouth and grabbed Vasilj's cheat sheet as his fellow goalkeeper celebrated the missed spot kick. He then appeared to damage the piece of paper. The report claimed (watch from 2:06 of the video below):

"Afterwards, the cheat sheet, which listed all the Italian shooters and their preferred corners, was clearly damaged. Apparently, Donnarumma had intended to tear it up."
Referee Clement Turpin was forced to step in and, while Gianluigi Donnarumma avoided a second yellow card - something that could have proved a turning point - he was ultimately allowed to remain in goal without it making any real difference.

In the end, his gamesmanship counted for little. Italy’s penalty takers faltered, missing the target, meaning Bosnia didn’t even need to rely on their so-called “cheat sheet” to come out on top.

I know the message of unity in the face of polarization is super corny and played out at this point, but Americans do not skimp on supporting Team USA at the Olympics.

Well, except for this past Winter Olympics where the US men's hockey team got trashed by Heated Rivalry fans (liberals) because some of these guys, who are NHL players, are conservative.

Granted, I do think that Kash Patel shouldn't have been there partying with them, because he's a dirty Indian freak. But this was also our first gold medal in Olympic men's hockey since 1980, why wouldn't the President meet with the team and invite them to the State of the Union address? Furthermore, why wouldn't the men's team take him up on celebrating that honor so publicly?

I do wish Italy would have qualified because I have lots of World Cup 1994 nostalgia (it's when I started watching Soccer) so I want as many of those nations back here as possible, especially one of the finalists.

Greetings from Espawnya (via espn). Real Madrid lose 2-1 to... Mallorca (in 18th place before these 3 points)!

That's it. I hate Real Madrid and know most in here do too and wanted everybody to know they lost. Just wanted to spread the good word. :)

Yesterday no matches were played in 1. and 2. Bundesliga bc Jesus died and it looks like some people couldn't handle it.

Wolfsburg gave away a 3:1 lead against Leverkusen and lost 3:6 in the end. Freiburg acutally handled FC Bayern til the overtime when Bayern turned a 0:2 into a 3:2 win. Later in the evening Stuttgart and Dortmund met and it was a pretty boring 0:0 until the last moments of the match when Dortmund scored two goals within two minutes and made Stuttgart fans throw fucking chairs on the pitch. And in the late evening top match of the 2. Bundesliga Hertha Berlin showed up in Dresden. Some Dresden ultras snatched a banner away from some Berlin fans and burned it in the stances. So the Hertha fans retaliated by thrown fireworks on the more casual Dresden fans so Dresden ultras started storming the pitch and trying to fight the Hertha fans.
