Kitutal / Oliver Davenport is an inflatables fetishist on the south coast of England whose lifelong dream is to start a furry convention. He has been repeatedly attempting and failing at this for the last 12 years, perhaps due to an organizational strategy summarized as:

1. Book a convention hotel
2. Create a mascot
3. Umm…

Past attempts are chronicled on Wikifur [archive] and parodied at https://x.com/furtilecon [archive].

Now Kitutal’s latest attempt (the sixth?) is almost upon us - Further South, announced for March 15-17 at the Portsmouth Marriott. However, this week we learn that it’s being moved to the Holiday Inn and fewer than 50 attendees are expected, not all of whom have paid yet. Are these signs of another grimly predictable failure, or can Kitutal beat the odds and actually hold a convention? Follow along at:

A couple of hours ago (as of this writing), the Phoenix, Arizona-based convention Itty Bitty Fur Con announced on their Facebook page that it is on indefinite hiatus.

Normally, this wouldn’t be particularly notable by convention drama standards, but what makes this announcement especially odd is the timing. The last IBFC event was in 2019, their website domain has long since expired, and their social media has been inactive since February 2021. Why is this indefinite hiatus being announced nearly five years later? You’d think the years of silence made that obvious enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if COVID is cited as part of the reason behind the hiatus, not so much in regards to cons being spreader events for diseases but the lack of funds coming in between 2019 and now.

Just imagine how little money IBFC must've had after not hosting a proper con since 2019, they must've had pennies in their bank account by now. Sure, AZFC might have some cash but not enough to restart a dead con without putting themselves in the red.

Why did I click that spoiler? :cryblood: It looks like that failure-to-launch is wearing one of those comically-large soiled diapers you see in cartoons.

IBFC peaked at 627 attendees so it was "itty bitty" in all senses. IBFC also only started in 2017 so if they had any cash reserves left at all they were probably tiny and everything has exploded in cost since then. There could also be issues after five years with finding a venue again, but I'm not sure about that.

Likely the reason it took so long to announce the con is properly dead was because a few people were clinging on desperately to the idea it could be revived and they've finally accepted reality. In nearly 100% of cases when a con says "indefinite hiatus" and "we're not done" they are in fact very done.

Minor PL but I attended AZFC in 2023 and during closing ceremonies (which included a Q&A with the board of directors) at least two people I recall asked about IBFC making a return.

At the time, the bottom line was that there was a desire for it to return from attendees but the staff was already stretched super thin for just AZFC. It could have been resurrected in 2024 but the rubber never hit the road to make it happen either financially or staff wise. I recall the idea that was pitched was that each convention board would have no staff crossover so that the staff for AZFC wasn't dedicating their entire personal life to running two fairly small conventions. It's my belief that a lack of interest in running the convention, not the convention itself was its demise.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it either but AZFC and IBFC had a shared venue when they ran congruently. AZFC 2025 is being held at a new hotel and conference center, although still in the city of Mesa. It is plausible that the venue change made it impossible to continue to run both events for the foreseeable and contracted future even if all the other chips fell into place.

With just under three weeks to go, Kitutal has announced that Further South will raise money for Trans Pride Portsmouth. Notwithstanding Kitutal’s endearing confidence that his convention will raise money, Trans Pride Portsmouth isn’t a charity. It’s a company set up less than six months ago controlled solely by middle-aged trans woman Leah Blake. I couldn’t help wondering what Leah's money management skills are like – perhaps you could share, Leah?

"DWP" for anyone not aware are the government agency in the UK that pay out welfare (or 'Benefits' as its known locally). So it seems the owner of a Furry convention is getting investigated for fraudlently claiming Welfare.

...this helped, because I read it as 'department of water and power' which in some ruralish places in the US is your ISP too.

It's funnier because I knew the British definition.

Incredibly it looks like Further South will go ahead this weekend, so the question is how many people will attend, especially as Kitutal is going up against LondonFurs on Saturday and expecting people to miss work on Monday for a hastily arranged short story competition and a fursuit-making workshop. I can't find more than ten people on social media mentioning their attendance.

Canada's Furnal Equinox has already started to break down days before the convention starts with a broken online registration system, no tickets being sold at the door because the convention is "sold out", but didn't bother to announce that until about three days before the con thus messing up many furries' plans to attend the con, add to that the "Up" escalator will be out of service for a second year, and a DJ has been kicked out of the dance lineup over something negative to the convention's woke policies in keeping the con a safe space for all it's special snowflakes.

This kind of shit always cracks me up, because the "down" escalator (in literally all escalator installations) can easily be switched to "up." Even the diversity hires running the DC Metro can figure that out (there's always a broken escalator in the DC Metro system somewhere).

Either the people running this venue are idiots or (more likely) they're pretending they can't just flip a switch because they want to watch a bunch of furfags stumbling their way up a metal staircase in their fur suits.

I kinda wanna know what this dj guy did, or (more likely) said to make them kick him out
but realistically it's probably gonna be something really boring like call someone a tard online three years ago, so maybe it's not worth looking into

Jake is super suspicious. He actively promotes Cenny (an open zoophile), had a zoophile/pedophile roommate for years AFTER the guy was outted for luring a 12 year old girl, and has a few too many friends who are known to rape dogs.
I know he had his Twitter privated for a bit there so i think that he finally got caught doing something and that might be related as to why he was booted.
Edit: he deleted all his posts sharing Cennys advertisements. He also seems to have either not posted pretty at all from jan-march or he deleted a LOT of stuff. I do have these posted/saved in a thread I'm working on, wonder if someone here tipped the con off...
I sniffed about on his twitter and there's still some connections here.
Tundru, who has appeared here before for defending zoophiles.

Cenny, the only remnant of him (but i have more).

John Wolf. He comes up a few times.

I think they just hate fat fucks.

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. Most likely, the venue got sick of furries repeatedly breaking the escalator at previous events. The entire reason this is even a thing is because furries have no sense of courtesy with regard to other people's spaces. They frequently swing off the escalator onto the landing, and this action is what causes the problem. The impact with the comb plate can trip a sensor. I believe the jerking motion on the handrails to accommodate the swing can also damage the handrails.

It's less "LOLFAT" and more "y'all are fucking assholes."

At this point every hotel and convention space should have a babyproof esque program they run when they sign up with a furry conventions
Tightly secure the smoke detectors, disable the escalators, maybe a nice big plastic tarp on all the furniture... You know, just in case
