That's actually why I attended this year. Knowing the fandom, they can't be bothered to hold their attention for more than a single hot button issue at a time, and everyone who actually leaves their home was tired of dealing with covid coiuntermeasures by early 2022 anyways. My filthy unvaxxed self was quietly readmitted into the fandom because it was a war the covid cultists accepted they couldn't win, if only subconsciously. A large smattering of thinkpieces at the time saying covid was now endemic and that we gotta learn to live with the virus probably helped too.

I also suspect that con organizers realized increasingly their demanding vaccine requirements were hurting their potential figures for attendance growth.

It's a rule almost as old as time ... anything openly advertised as a "women's <thing>" is practically guaranteed to wind up being a sausage fest. The troon pipeline has just streamlined that process further.

Why do people act like buying a commercially manufactured (for civilian consumers, i.e. not military use) "MRE" pouches is some kind of le epic "win"? Soldiers hate those fucking things no matter how good the actual food is, partly because it means you're trying to eat while you're potentially deep in the shit and not in a canteen where there's some hope you're not going to come under fire while you're trying to eat and someone's made at least a token effort to make it more palatable.

Not to mention the ones proudly emblazoned with "M.R.E.!™️" on the front aren't military issue anyway. The companies making these consumer-grade things are making a killing on them selling them to buffoons who think "eating like a soldier in the bush" instead of just buying hot, freshly-prepared food for a third of the price at a fast food joint is some kind of "awesome!" experience.

The one where the manufacturer is visible is from Sopakco, one of the three companies that produce MREs. They do produce civilian MREs but I'm pretty sure they're in a different package. I also don't think they're allowed to use the DoD logo on their civilian MREs.

About the only (non-autistic) reason to have them is they're probably okay for bugout bags if you want something stable you don't have to rotate out every few months.

If they're making different variants, they're sure not making much effort to keep civilians from getting their grubby mitts on them. Those all have the DoD logo on them too.

I won't discount the idea that these just routinely "fall off the truck" though and the industry just doesn't give a rat's ass enough to track down the thieves or the resellers since they undoubtedly produce a fuckton of these and they're not exactly "classified."

There are dozens of YouTube channels devoted to people reviewing these things. Steve1989MREInfo is the only one worth actually watching though unless you're a huge MRE nerd who cares about them for their own sake. He recently even got some of the tube rations U2 spy plane pilots use.
