Yeah, Spa was sad. Not only for what went down, but for the fact that in all likelihood, if they could have driven in anger, it would most likely have been a 9/10 race. It had all the right mixture for it, just a bit too much of the rain fucked us. I was more disappointed on missing out on a potential cracker then the fiasco of how it all went down. They definitely need to look at if it is a rainy Sunday, move the start time ahead a few hours to give some extra time to get the race in or wait the weather out.
 
Liking this track so far. Looking forwards to them hitting it in anger.

That jink by Mazapin was crazy. So close to a massive crash and put Vettel out in Q1.

I've never liked the blocking rules/penalties, it's ruined Vettel's qualifying and then race while Mazapin is already last so what is a grid drop going to do? I don't know how they go about doing anything different to prevent it though without going back to one car at a time qualifying but that was an awful format.

Well, I guess it's the risk of qualifying, when you wait too long to do another quick lap, you might not get another shot if something goes wrong. For the life of me I don't understand the logic behind some of the decisions made by teams, though. When your driver has had a lackluster time, why not send him out right away. Many times, they wait for the last minute and then either get cockblocked by some asshole spinning or traffic slows them down too much and they don't make it in time to do a hot lap.

I guess it has to do with tyre conservation, which should be softened up anyway. I doubt it has much of a positive influence on the race/quali and it bites people in the ass every now and then.
 
Now for Bottas to let Vestappen through but not Hamilton. That's how we'll know for certain Russel is a merc driver next season.

The racetrack is great, the start was amazing with cars doing all sorts of crazy lines, felt very oldschool.
Too bad the overall layout doesn't allow overtaking under current aero (hopefully, that'll be different in the future), but a neat race. Kinda weird how many teammates ended their race side by side, had Alonso not split the Ferrari, it would have been half the teams that have both drivers next to each other.

Also, the hell did AM attempt with Vettel? If they wanted to make him go long on hards, they should have called him in way later.

Still turned in a good race. Perez is not a perfect driver, but he always gives a great performance.

I love how they baited merc into the early stop. It was an absolutely workable strategy but if you get them to do anything Hambone doesn't believe in you get to him. That is a huge failing of hambone, if anything starts going away from him he loses his cool and starts crying about it rather than running his race, that's exactly how 2016 went down. The only reason it hasn't stalled his career totally is that Mercedes being so strong and Bottas being so passive.
 
I like the track, onboards feel like Monaco you have a wall coming at you very fast. Nice to see corners having an outside line instead of the usual defend the inside and the banking is awesome.

Funny how there were zero big crashes and cars abusing track limits, almost like not having vast tarmac runoffs make drivers more respectful...

I've also had a peak at F2 and F3, championship table only. Red Bull have 2 nice juniors in F3 both fighting for the title in Dennis Hauger and Jack Doohan (Mick Doohan's son), Hopefully they both graduate to F2.

They told Max on the radio (that all the teams can hear) to do 3-4 hard push laps at a time when he would have been able to get out ahead of Botras (Hamilton's team mate that they had already tried to use to slow Max in the last stint) if he did so so it sounded like he was stopping.

Mercedes pitted Hamilton instantly and put him on medium tyres trying to do what you said come out and go harder to catch Max when he pitted. Max instantly pitted the lap after Hamilton and they put on the hard tyres. Mercedes had to go with the mediums because they had no new hards in their allocation.

As you say it is a common strategy but it was probably a bit early for mediums to make it to the end if you were pushing on them, or at least that's certainly what Hamilton thought meaning he was unsettled by the earlier than planned stop onto tyres he didn't think would finish the race.
 
I didn't catch the race, but I'm pleased that Max showed everyone how it's done.

I'm also sad about Kimi having the coof, but it's nice to see Kubica again. So many "what ifs" as a result of that crash. Not necessarily WDC material, but he would've produced some great races had he been able to work his way up to a top-tier team (which would have been very possible IMHO).

I'm calling it now: Jack Doohan will be the next Aussie to race in F1; more than likely in an Alpha Tauri in 2023 or 2024.

Piastri might make it, though I'm not optimistic about him getting any further than as a test driver. Piastri has the skills, but he doesn't have the name or the backing of Jack.
 
Hamilton is going to get destroyed by George next season, hopefully George doesn't show him too much respect like Bottas has.

Personally I didn’t put much weight on the Bottas to Alfa rumors, I thought he'd be shit out of luck and alfa would probably run Ilot as a ferrari junior driver. I can understand them wanting to replace Kimi with another experienced driver but there are so many good F2 drivers queuing up and those "junior" teams should be looking to develop the future not just having a past their best also ran.

As much as I would love to see that, it's not going to happen. Mercedes will not allow Russel to shame Lewis, his contract will make it very clear that if he goes against team orders to be nothing but backup, he's going to be out of a cockpit. Mercedes does not want to tear itself apart over two drivers having a slapfight. They'll handcuff Russel's hands behind his back and kick him in the kneecaps, figuratively speaking.
