The anglo strikes again.

I was out enjoying a nice sunny day for a change and just got back. Checked the tracker. Please tell me why the all female team are last and out of the race? Which one cocked it up? They were around 18th overall when I stopped watching more than 7 or 8 hours ago.

And I see the #8 wasn't too fucked up by the first lap incident. Any other notable things happen? Going to watch for a bit and then the DTM race.

it wasnt their fault they got crashed and couldnt start the car
Ok, that's better than one of them being to blame. That sucks. Tatiana is getting a bit old now, but Sophia is still quite young so hopefully she goes somewhere in her career. I think she is focused on sportscar but I wonder if she will do open-wheel again.

Oh the Indy race is on soon. Found this stream:
EDIT-Lots of action in the Indy race. Crazy stuff. Lots of championship implications too. And they are only on lap 68 of 260!
EDIT2-Grosjean is on fire again! But not literally this time. Fucking amazing last 8 laps or so, hottest guy on the track, the announcers are talking him up big time. So nice to see and hear that! That guy deserved a better F1 car, I hope someone wants him back in '22.

Alex Albon won his first DTM race at the nurburgring

The flag bearer at the 24 hours of le mans almost got hit by a lmp2 battle

Really happy for Albon, he got chewed up and spitten out by Red Bull in F1, glad he's now found a home in DTM with Alpha Tauri (in a Ferrari no less).

And that flag-bearer moment is quite scary. That was a really close call, maybe they should not have that guy stand on track in the future, no matter how cool it looks. If a racecar plows into a guy at those speeds, doesn't matter if it was a glancing blow or a direct hit, the guy will be twisted into a pretzel and turned inside out.

The first crash wasn't her fault but the second one that finished the car off.. Well let's take a look at that

Though I would guess the car at that point was dead

Geez, ending up in embarassing crashes seems to run in the Maldonado family. :story:

And speaking of crashes, 6 crashed out at Eau Rouge in W series, all OK so jokes about women drivers are allowed.

Looking forward to Spa and it's looking mildly wet for sat and sun, shame I have to visit family on Sunday 😭

Oh and a trailer dropped for Schumacher's netflix documentary out sept 15th.

Once more: The halo proves its worth. Feels like beating a dead horse at this point, but this crash once again had some moments where the halo protected the drivers very, very well.

It's also worth noting that the down-pointing nose acts like a wedge that lifts cars up instead of piercing the sides like a spear. An F1- style nose might have caused some serious issues when cars T-bone each other like that. Also helps that the cars are much lighter and slower than F1 cars I guess. Glad everyone made it out okay, after Hubert you just don't look at such accidents at that corner the same way you did before.

And god damnit! Once more I won't be able to watch the race and this time it's Spa in the rain :(

That W series crash. Damn! I was perplexed before playing it as I was pretty sure they raced tomorrow and so upon hitting play come to find out it was practice and just a series of spinouts that resulted in visions of the start of the Spa 98 race. I was watching that race live and was floored watching the continual crashing. Murray's commentary was just epic too.

Indeed, very lucky none of them ladies were hurt. Obviously since so many did it in succession, it wasn't a lack of skill but just not ready to deal with Eau Rouge on cold tires. Scary stuff tho!

If indeed it does rain or is damp most of the weekend, along with F1, we have 3 F3 races and the W race to see potential carnage (hopefully no injuries) or messed up races. Bring it on!!

I think I'm right in saying that Eaton's front-left wheel actually slotted through the HALO onto Moore's head, if not it looks bloody close to getting through that space. I get that through the course of all six cars bundling in like that the HALO would have been beneficial, but I do see that moment and think the HALO isn't perfect.
Obviously, I don't know for sure if the whel did get through, since I also notice that Moore sits quite high in the car so it might have just been the camera angle which made it appear so, but I still think that needs to be assessed as a potential issue because it looked really bloody close to getting through the top.

It's always worth going back to Murray Walker's commentary of that moment, so I shall facilitate.

Yeah, I agree, it looks like the wheel brushes the top of her helmet, but before that, it bounces off the halo, which takes the brunt of the force. Without the halo, she would have gotten quite a bump on her head.
The white-blue car with the #95 flips upside down and the halo works as an additional roll cage, which certainly improves protection during a flip.
The car with the 22 goes right through the field of debris, smashes into a few cars as well.

The drivers aren't protected from anything coming from straight above them, but the driver has to get into and out of the cockpit (and he needs to be able to do so fast), so I doubt anything can be done here tbh. You could add some bar on a hinge, but do you really want to risk that something like that gets jammed and the driver becoming unable to GTFO?
The halo isn't a magic force field that envelopes the driver, but it certainly adds a lot of protection from anything striking from the front or sides. Even partially from anything coming from the top.

I just made by changes for our league, tough to decide!

I have been using this AceStream since I got up an hour ago. Never buffered once, best AceS I have had, last few races I had to resort to web-based streams, so quite happy with this one:

After Latifi spun, I was thinking Inters might be a bit of a stretch but lo and behold, the top drivers knocked out sub 2min laptimes on them later on, once the track dried up a little.

I'm really happy for Vettel, went from 20th to 10th and then even 6th. Just goes to show, the track improves a lot with every lap and it would have been really easy to end up stuck on 20th place if something like a yellow flag had happened.

Now it migth start to rain, which will make the rest of qualifying even more suspenseful. Quite nice.

Edit:
Aw man. I was really thinking Hamilton and Bottas might be out in Q2, a shame they churned out a quick lap at the end...

Just great! Vettel called it. Hope he is ok. Guess Lando missed the W qualifying. Same thing.
Fortunately, there wasn't anyone else closeby that could have gotten involved. The car spun into the barriers, but it dissipated a lot of energy by skidding down the track. It was a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing. Lando crashed due to counteracting against oversteer, had he not done that, he would have lost the car, too. It's a very, very tight edge between correcting just a bit too little, just enough and just a little bit too much - it's virtually impossible to do in rain, when every single foot of tarmac has different grip characteristics.

It warms the cockels of my heart to see one driver stopping next to an accident to check on another driver's safety.

The W qualifying seems to have been a lot drier though. I think in that case, it was a mixture of cold tyres, cold track and not much rubber on the tarmac, still same effect as a road slippery with rain.

Edit:
What a great Q3. Russel went all in with only one fast lap at the end and it really paid off. What a performance, humbling Mercedes and Hamilton, hope he'll best them at the start, too, but I fear a Williams won't be holding ground against a Mercedes once it comes to race pace.

I would have never imagined seeing a williams in the front row this past years. but hey, Russell on P2. Great work. And Bottas will be banned to P13 thanks to his crash in Hungary. Has anyone a weather forecast for tomorrow? Is rain on the map?

Google claims 92% chance of rain tomorrow around 3PM. This is going to be crazy.
