Also either Mercedes have come up with a new design for 1 gp or this whole limbo wing thing is some Mercedes strategy.

So, if this flex-wing is worth 6/10s to the Ferraris and RB, that must mean Gasly and Fred are looking real good once they ban the darn things! Or are they running with them too? HAHA What a load of horseshit this wing business is. LOL

Regardless, Merc not looking too hot, I'd love to see them both out in Q2! The tears filled with salt will be flowing!

Also keep in mind there are 3 F2 races this weekend too! They should all be action packed and will give a bit of a feel for what is in store for the GP.

Even though as it appears RB will run from the rest this weekend, the battle for the rest of the top 10 might make great viewing. Hoping for good one, especially with the woes of Merc added in. Still early days, but they ain't cakewalking this year I think.

Sometimes, you watch F1 to see a favorite driver succeed.

I would gladly watch F1 to watch Hamilton fade into utter obscurity. Faggot never learned how to deal with failure, his salt and tears will make for great entertainment. I just hope he'll give a "spur of the moment" interview after something goes wrong and trashtalking Mercedes in a way that'll piss them off enough to tell him to fuck off. A man can dream.

And frankly, if Verstappen manages to break his current title run, so he ends up tied with Schumacher, it would give me great satisfaction.

I sincerely hope it looks like this:

nahh, Manta A is much more Sexy...
The car has been rebuit so many times it isn't really original at this point (let's be honest), however here it is in I think it was 2019.

I also have to correct myself slightly, it's 1988 - not 70's, sorry to scam you lot that way. It is in the SP3 class, with two Toyota Corolla Altis', a Dacia Logan, and a Toyota GT86 Cup.
The Dacia is slowest in class by a couple minutes.

Looks like Mercedes is going to eat some humble pie this time, too. Both Mercs are racing different setup (low downforce on Hamalam and medium downforce on 2nd Fiddle), so you know they have no clue how to deal with this track.

But I assume this is mainly just the Mercedes being optimized for regular track-layouts and suffering in slow corners of city tracks, I expect them to bounce right back to dominating the field in the rest of the season.

And all that being said: A shame Stroll misjudged the corner just now. He's a decent driver and it was a small mistake to make.
Now let's see if Mazepin can outdo him.

Edit:
Mercs go with new reds on restart, Giovinazzi slams his car into the same wall as Stroll and neither Mercedes has managed to squeeze in a fast lap yet.

Now that is unfortunate, they essentially wasted the entire set of fresh reds to gain nothing. So yeah, pretty funny up till now.

Edit 2:
Wouldn't you know, Hamilton manages to crank out a fast lap after all, how disappointing (but it's still just Q1, so plenty of time for Verstappen et al. to step up). The Mercedes is so ridiculously powerful, it manages to make up lost time from the slow sectors in that last quick sector.
Bottas in the midfield, this guy's days are numbered.

4 red flags in one Qualifying, that has only happened once before in Hungary.

A shame Vettel couldn't get in another lap, he barely missed Q3 and his Q2 lap had him locking one of his front tyres, so he did have some room to improve his time. Maybe free tyre choice will help him get into the points, though.

But what a magnificent qualifying from Leclerc, hope he can now enjoy his hard-earned pole and get some points...
And once more Bottas gets the shaft, Mercs fuck up the timing of their release and Bottas is too far ahead of Hamilton, needs to slow down, leading to cars being bunched up, cause no one wants to give him slipstream. And of course, not even after Hamilton got 2nd place will he give Bottas a reacharound and return the favor, giving him some slipstream. I wouldn't mind doing Bottas job, especially for the money he gets, but damn if this isn't embarassing, how obviously he's just someone else's flunky.

Unless red bull can get ahead and checkout upfront it's going to be a painful race for them. They're lacking straight line speed to Merc and Ferrari down a long straight with DRS on it. I don't see much defending or overtaking from them because of it so it will need to be a perfect strategy and a lead from the front race.

Stream for the N24 can be found below, and in the description of that stream is a load of links to dedicated on-board streams without commentary - I highly recommend the #831 Hyundai in TCR because that's genuinely my favourite class of car to race whenever I get the chance.
Stream goes live at 1430 local to the track in Germany, but being YouTube it does show converted times if you open it.

Whilst on the topic of widening one's motor racing diet, there are a surprising number of events that are livestreamed for free. THE RACE streams the European Le Mans Series, Indy Lights, Asian Le Mans Series, Japanese Super Series and a bunch of other GT and open wheel categories from around the world. Worth subscribing to.

Soooo...
apparently, this is what Spa looks like right now:

Guess we're lucky the race wasn't set there this weekend...
Makes me wonder how many laps Senna would have won by on a track like that...

If Max gets a flawless start and takes the lead into the first corner, he's in with a chance. It'll be hard work for the team to maintain momentum throughout the race, but they have some of the best strategists in the business. That said I'd be delighted with a Leclerc win and Sainz on the podium, and I'm not even a Ferrari fan.

Glad to see Leclerc score another pole AND be able to start the race as the polesitter. Now I've got to wonder if Ferrari has been able to find some more speed now or if they're just benefitting from these street circuits. Also, five red flags in qualifying and none of them were the Haas rookies? Methinks they're making some nice progress, even if the anemic VF-21 won't show it.

They made their gearbox and driveshaft assembly more compact, that allows the engine to rev up quicker and this the acceleration is slightly better... so I assume this is street courses doing them a huge favor. Mercs are optimized for fast tracks, so in Monaco they are shit out of luck, but can make up lost time in Baku. Frankly, if the long straight in Baku wasn't a DRS desaster, the track would be pretty amazing. Tight slow corners and fast segments make that a rather well-balanced track. But current F1 cars don't allow to stick to someone's diffusor, so you can't take advantage of it at all.

Absolutely, It might be a humble success, but they manage to challenge Williams. Both drivers are okay, Mazepin still has his brainfarts here and there, but he's a rookie so I am willing to cut him some slack. Schumacher seems talented too, when you listen to his back and forth with his engineer, you see that he has good understanding of what his car does in response to the setup and how to improve that. He might not become a driver as big as his father (then again, who could?), but he could become a very noteworthy driver... now if only there's room for him in one of the top teams at the right time.

Edit:
Norris got a 3-position penalty and starts 9th.
link.

I understand why FIA did it, but it's still a shame.

What a great track Baku is. Fucking up nearly every driver in one way or another. I hope we have a screwball race. Go Gasly!!!

I watched some of the Nurburg 24H last night. I was stunned when I saw there was 120 cars in the race! LOL And then that fog/rain came and a bunch went sliding. Then it got red flagged and basically stopped running. i went to bed before I saw if/when it got restarted so will probably watch the rest of that race after Baku.

I seem to recall that both Verstappen and Ham had to do an extra lap on their starting tires in Q2, not sure how much of an effect that will have.

Hoping we have a surprise or two today and the usual suspects run into issues and we get another podium with no championship leaders on it.

Baku has a few corners early on where a contact between two cars in front very easily snowballs into a chain reaction of cars hitting one another.
While it would be nice to see a crash thinning out some of the usual suspects so we can watch other drivers on the podium, there isn't really anyone (except Abloobloo Lew) that I want to be gone from the race tbh.

So here I am, just hoping for Vettel to get a good start and getting on a decent position by the end of the race. I would love for him to get a few more points. Similarly for Tsunoda, dude has had a rough start in F1, but I still see some potential in him. It would be nice to have a Japanese WDC at some point in the future.

Also saw that McLaren bigwig Mansour Ojjeh passed away.

So, would you start him on the hards? I would. Even if slower, with safety cars probable and all cars ahead on softs, if he can keep within 20 secs of lead by time pitstops happen he will be looking good. Could then switch to softs or meds with handful of laps left and have good pace.

Hmmm, Max got crap on his tires and FIA allowed him to switch to another set of used softs to start race.

I'm really bad at making such calls, but I would agree. Hards (or at the very least mediums) seem like a good choice. Baku has slow corners where no one can really overtake, so the advantage of softer tyres might not be as big in the race as it is in qualifying and I don't think they influence the speed on the long straight that much, do they? It all boils down to how much time you lose compared to softer tyres in relation to changing worn out tyres and how hard it is to keep your track position...
An overcut worked great in Monaco, where overtaking is practically impossible, but I don't know if it's as good here tbh. If it's good, then it's one more reason for hard tyres.

An early safety car phase would be a godsend when running hards, when everyone else goes for mediums (or even hards) and Vettel is already using them.
Given how hard it is to clean up a crashed car, I expect a red flag at some point tbh.

All signs point to Baku being a very interesting race. As much as I love Monaco, it is true that it lacks the opportunity to really overtake, so it's at best interesting for smart strategies, but we'd need more flexibility with tyre choice, tank levels and so on to make it really shine in that regard. Baku has the long straight and a few fast corners, which currently suffer from DRS shenanigans, but at least there's something to mix up the field by overtaking (even if it's not as "organic" as I'd like it to be).

Croft just said that hard is supposed to be the best race tire. Let's see who does start on them.
Only Stroll took them, WTF? I guess that's why I don't work for an F1 team. Seems a no-brainer, but what do I know. LOL

It's going to be an awful day when Brundel retires. Everytime he isn't commentating a gp I'm reminded how awful the lined up replacements are.

On the plus side we get to listen to the professional whiner crying over the radio that someone is daring to be faster than him.
