That's the most exciting F1 race I've seen in years; that Gasly/Leclerc battle in the last two laps was epic.

As an added bonus, M-B's strategy of pouring all their resources into Hambone at the expense of Bottas has bitten them on the arse big style. RB has opened up a gap in the Constructors Championship because Bottas didn't finish in the points.

For some reason I feel like Cartman at the end of that Scott Tenorman episode right now.

HAHAHAHAHAHA FUCK YOU

"It's a marathon, not a sprint" yeah right lol

Please let Mazepin finish ahead of Lewlew
Ask and ye shall receive.

I take back almost everything I said, this was a great restart. I still think it was a farce to start for essentially 2 laps, but Checo baited Hamlam into a mistake who swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Fuck you Bloolew, my boy Seb just enjoyed a well-earned 2nd place!

Easily one of the best races in the last couple years and that's not something said easily when you consider some of the bangers of last season. MB is getting their shit kicked in and I love every single second of it.
Hamilton had a chance to salvage this race, but blew it literally on the start/finish line after forgetting that there's a corner at the end of every straight. Bottas had a shit weekend start to finish, I bet he's being treated the same way Vettel was last year at Ferrari...

I love the commentators trying to absolve Hamilton fucking up the restart as "technical". Yeah the brakes were on the wrong setting but who is it that controls the settings? It was Hamilton's fault no matter how you look at it.

No brake setting would have helped with how much he misjudged the entry into that corner. He was way too late on the brakes, cause he was looking to cover his position against Checo and had to go straight. That's it. But sure, it's the engineers' fault. Somehow. How could we ever doubt his prowess? Never mind how a machined nut is Bottas fault for driving an inch too far, someone didn't double and tripplecheck Hamilton's brake setup before, during and after the red flag, so of course this was unavoidable. The magic "make the car independent of the laws of physics"-button wasn't switched on, so he could not just will his car around the corner and we seriously can't expect the supposed GOAT 7 time world champion to be capable of doing it himself.

The videos with Abloolew's team radio will be glorious. Sadly, it's regular tracks in the foreseeable future, where Mercedes is still strongest, so this short stint of Hamilton eating humble pie is coming to a close.

Though, with the tyre failure, I wonder what Pirelli will do. They'll play it safe and go with harder tyres in the future, I guess, but it's one thing to have a tyre fail in the regular fashion, these tyres blew up completely out of the blue with no indication beforehand. That raises a lot of questions about high-speed tracks and those tracks with high wear on the tyres...

So, who will Hamdouche and the Mercedes Internet Defense Force blame for the Kang's failings at Baku?
Currently claiming one of the setting was wrong so it was just one of those things nobody could have helped. Except maybe their driver noticing it was still on brake warm up mode.

Silverstone is the usual tyre wrecker so we'll see what Pirelli and the FIA can come up with for that.

The first highlight reel is out:
So many good maneuvers. After that last restart, Leclerc managed to overtake Gasly and somehow Gasly countered that move and still made the corner. Amazing driving from so many people. A shame Stroll didn't finish, as much as I like that Seb got Driver of the Day, I think Stroll deserved it more, carrying the AM from last row to top 5.
My hunch is that AM might not be the fastest, but they now figured out what strategy works best with what their car does. Seems like preserving tyres is one of their strengths and overcuts work great for them (if the tyre doesn't get eaten up on the shoulder like with Stroll in lap 31). Let's see how they handle in the future, hope they'll continue this trend.

Btw, Stroll's tyre blew up after 31 laps, Verstappen's blew up after 33 laps with a couple safety car laps in there... could have happened to literally anyone.

Also, gonna look forward to the various onboard-collages to hit Youtube. There were a couple of really amazing scenes and it will be great to see them from the onboard cameras!

Also:
Wholesome. Looking for more radio messages.

Did his tyre explode?

It's worse than that, he supposedly accidentally knocked it which turned it on, something I can't remember happening before...

Imagine blowing away points after saying "it's a marathon".

Also happy vettel.

Hamilton's? Nah. He just locked his brakes big time and flatspotted a tyre, but it was a completely new tyre, so I doubt you would manage to chew through the entire thing with that lockup.

First time I hear Mick drop the F-bomb... and it was aimed at Mazepin for nearly causing a crash, apparently:

I love how the engineer goes "Yeah everyone's aware" to calm him down, you can almost hear him utter the magic words "Please don't talk badly about the boss' son :("
Here's the onboard footage (hopefully the timestamp will work, if not it's around the 38s mark):
That's some erratic driving.

Some of the Youtube comments on the restart videos tho.

>And you dare say he's shit?
>How shit must Hamilton be then.

These guys can literally not comprehend that their magical idols are just really fucking lucky to drive in the most ridiculously overpowered cars in the entire grid.
Hamilton made a rookie mistake (granted, he rarely makes mistakes), but his pace depends on the car being good on the racetrack and if it isn't he's shit out of luck.

To be fair they clearly set Bottas up to be the tow for hambone in qualifying. Medium downforce set up meaning he's a sitting duck down the straight, it also means he's creating a lower pressure slipstream for the car behind. Pure sacrifice for their golden boy (who threw away a gift at the end).

he could have at least tried to protect the inside.

Not to mention loosing a huge chunk of points in the constructors championship. Red Bull finally has a driver who can support their number one driver and it starts to show. In monaco Perez managed to place in front of Hamilton and now he scored his first win for Red Bull.
