it's just so fucking tiring man. they could do wet weather tests literally anywhere but the fucking desert. it's not enough to lose iconic tracks to some shiekhs latest project for a bag of cash, have another fucking sandnigger run the goddamn thing. every week there's something else which just makes me seethe.
drivers can't swear. drivers aren't allowed race in the rain. they still don't have the balls to tell engine manufactures to ditch this hybrid bullshit. we still have to put up with monaco "because it's iconic" and then they remove SPA from yearly rotation and make it share with barcelona. we still have to put up with dumb shit like ferrari getting extra money "because it's ferrari". we still have lance stroll!

every time we get some kind of good news (thinner and shorter cars) it comes with a bag of shit, the fucking things have to lift and coast on long straights. everything, and i mean everything is for sale and i'm so sick of it. i swear 95% of my problems would be solved OVERNIGHT if the entire middle east was turned into a parking lot.

I'd agree with most of this but I will defend Monaco as a venue because it is core F1. It represents everything the sport should be. Beautiful mediterranean coasts and yachts, corners with more heritage than most tracks, hard as fuck circuit that comes alive every quali session while proving a tough technical challenge for every team and best of all, they are the one venue that has kept the grid girl tradition alive. Ditch it and you might as well be telling everyone that nothing is sacred. It would open the door for horrors beyond your comprehension.

I kinda fell out of keeping up with F1 for the last couple years but I'm gonna try and make an effort to Follow this season more closely. I only hope that Hamilton continues to struggle
2025 was your season then. Hamilton did fucking awful in a "worst of the best" tier car. This year, he might be in a rocketship that was partially built with him in mind. If the Ferrari is a monster this year, the best i can do is cheer for LeClerc.

In other news, Honda is blaming Newey for their engine and battery failures. They're claiming all the damage is coming from excessive vibration in the chassis. If they run full power, it vibrates the batteries to death. In turn, they have to crank down the power down, leading to the performance issues we saw while the car was functional.

I'm not saying Honda is wrong, but if I have to pick who to trust between a Newey chassis or a Honda power unit, I'm picking not-Honda. This may be my bias as an Alonso fan coming through.

I won't dispute what you said because i agree with most of it. my problem was i should have worded it better but i was too busy being mad. i actually don't mind monaco (that much), it just needs to be changed a little bit. some of the drivers have been complaining about the chicane after the tunnel for years but nothing ever happens. i get that it's iconic and in a city steeped in f1 history but they're made of money (FIA and monaco) and it wouldn't kill them to make some changes to make the racing better. As it is now, and has been for a good while - qualifying is more entertaining than the race itself.

I've been to Monaco and took a tour of the path they use for the Grand Prix. It's kind of underwhelming when you see it for yourself. Like, it absolutely feels as if there should not be a race there. It feels so small. The Fairmont Hairpin especially; that shit is like, whoa, you need a lot of finesse to go through that thing without crashing some shit. And yet, the whole thing really comes across as kind of boring to me. It's the Crown Jewel of F1, yada yada. But man, it feels like there is so much better potential for racing everywhere else.

some parts are really good. i will never get bored of watching the footage of senna cannonball turns 1 through 5 one handed. it's awe-inspiring. tabac and the swimming pool turns are great too, or at least it's great to watch, there's fantastic camera angles.
from a racing perspective though, no - i haven't really taken monaco seriously since schumacher parked it on the last corner during qualifying to save pole. and yes, the hairpin through to the start of the tunnel is just dogshit and easily the worst part of the track. in fact i'd go one further and say that if you took all 20-whatever circuits, the single worst part is the hairpin at monaco followed by the two immediate right handers

If I'm understanding your logic here, you want Arabs - who are wealthy in large part due to crude oil - to stop accumulating F1 assets, but also poo-poo F1's effort to reduce oil usage, which would reduce Arab wealth and make them less likely to acquire more F1 assets.

Is that pretty close?

Consider the following
In their defense, testing wet tires at Bahrain makes a lot of sense because of how abrasive and high deg the circuit is
Look at wet tires developed on smooth tracks and you know how disastrous that is
Look at Indycar for wet tires developed on smooth tracks and how terrible they are

On the subject of Monaco, I get that the racing is genuinely more prone to being a dud there than other tracks. I tend to agree that qualifying is the best part of the weekend. Ive got some fond memories of being at the Indy 500, we're all rain delayed, and everyone is huddled around a couple phones watching the race and cheering for stroll to fuck it into the wall. Its not a perfect fit for these cars but F1 would be lesser for losing it.

Monaco is an iconic F1 track. It was never the best track from a technical perspective, but its glamorous location sums up what F1 is all about.

That being said, there are other iconic heritage F1 tracks too. Monza, Spa, Silverstone and Suzuka all spring to mind. Obviously none are as sexy as Monaco, though imo the sight of Mt Fuji looming over the circuit makes Suzuka look more visually appealing than Monaco.

I'll return to the old chestnut that gets raised ITT whenever Monaco is mentioned: modern F1 cars are just too damn big. The race itself dates back to 1929, when cars such as the Bugatti Type 35 ruled the racetrack.

For shits and giggles, let's compare some vital stats of the Type 35 with the 2026 Mercedes-AMG F1 W17:

Specification1929 Bugatti Type 352026 Mercedes-AMG F1 W17
Wheelbase2,400 mm (94.5 in)3,400 mm (133.9 in)
Length3,680 mm (144.9 in)*5,505 mm (216.5 in)
Width1,320 mm (52.0 in)1,900 mm (75 in)
Curb weight750 kg (1,655 lb)772 kg (1,701 lb)
Peak power74 kW (100 HP) @ 4,000 RPM**750 kW (1,005 HP)
Top speed177 km/h (110 MPH)347 km/h (215 MPH)
* shown as "under 5,505mm" in the official W17 spec sheet
** consisting of 400 kW (536 HP) ICE + 350 kW (469 HP) as per 2026 regulation
s

As you can see it's really difficult to make a direct comparison between a simple ICE racing car from 100 years ago as opposed to the hybrid monstrosities being unleashed this season, but it should be obvious that modern F1 cars are both much larger and much faster than the cars for which the Monaco circuit was designed.

When I sat down and compared the numbers, the biggest surprise to me is that curb weights have barely changed since the 1920s.

It's little wonder that these days, the Monaco F1 GP is a series of parade laps for the benefit of casual observers rather than an actual race for fans to enjoy.

I'll be in my bunk.

opposite lock after the hairpin, one handed while changing gears. orgasmic. and then the sound of it in the tunnel to top it off

Alonso's stoppage yesterday was due to part of the battery pack breaking. They have no spares so are having to run a "revised testing plan" according to their statement to the press.

Amazing how Honda screwed Alonso at Mclaren. Then won 4 WDCs on the bounce. Then when to Aston and screwed Alonso.
RBR retained almost all of the Honda people for their engines.
Also every faggot that wants to ditch Monaco and keep racing in Barcelona or any Usa shithole track should be shot

Weak nothing statement from the FIA about the current situation.

No way they abandon the shit hole desert races if they can possibly do them, safety and wellbeing be damned.

Couldn't have been more tone deaf if they put it on a black background.

If we need a bigger clown show, let's just re-do last year's Lego parade in Monaco.

Funny thing about the Monaco talk here: the track was way faster back in the days. The harbor section (Nouvelle chicane) was basically a straight with a cross over not the harbor chicane we have now. And the swimming pool section (from Tabac to Rascasse) was basically astraight. also the track made the impression it was wider then today but that might be because the cars today are much fatter and wider then back in the days.

April will be fun because then F1 makes a stop at Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. If the shitshow that is happening right now will still be active we might get arepeat of the missile strikes a few years ago. Remember when some missiles came down near Jeddah during Free practice?

I think they are banking on this blowing over by the end of the month. They should consider either delaying the event to the end of the year or dropping it completely.
