Rumors that the Williams is up to almost 30kg overweight, oof. I feel for Carlos.

Turns out hiring a guy to lead your engineering department who left Alpine "by mutual consent" after working as their technical director and producing a car that struggled to pass crash test and was massively overweight wasn't a winning move.

In September 2018, Harman joined the Renault F1 Team as Deputy Chief Design before being promoted to engineering director in May 2019. In February 2022, Harman was promoted to Technical Director of Alpine F1 Team. He held this position until his departure from the team in March 2024. In September 2024, he joined Williams Racing as design director. In July 2025, Harman was promoted to Technical Director for Engineering.

Just in case, photo from the Audi during the shakedown yesterday

F1 thread, it's James
tl;dw:
Williams skipping Barcelona shakedown was a deliberate decision and not a last minute failure. Delays are caused by aggressively pushing performance limits, team intentionally stretched tolerances and hit development "pain points". Forcing the car to Barcelona would have compromised the rest of pre-season prep and the wider development plan.
Chassis tests were never a problem and were passed weeks ago. Previously reported issues are resolved. Car passed all necessary tests and is clear to run at Bahrain
Williams is running an alternative test program, including one in which the real car is mounted on a rig to generate engineering data without going to a circuit, this is happening right now and will continue for a few days

tL;dr Williams sacrificed Barcelona shakedown for the sake of long-term development, Bahrain will be the true on-track debut

There is reporting (no idea how accurate or their source so grain of salt) that Audi have gone through 3 engines in the Barcelona shake down.

what if there is no on track correlation?

'Murican here....any way to watch the trials in Barcelona?
(Yes...I know it's not on any channels here...I was asking more for Euro channels/streamers...)

Funny thing: Hamilton did a little spin on track. Looked very weird, he was going slowly and suddenly he did a 180

Meanwhile Mercedes managed to break the 1.16 mark, being 1.8 second faster then Leclerc. I wonder if Merc has the best car at the moment. One thing seems to be sure, Merc has a very reliable engine considering they are running more then race distance in one go

It's a glorified VW. Of course it's going to chew through engines.

Finally Aston Martin footage, sorry it's bad footage

Good news, it looks unlike all the other cars, so Newey was probably cooking really hard
Like seriously, look at those sidepods, the flat nose, the rear suspension mounted to the rear wing pillar
Bad news, it broke down on track today, ending the session with a red flag

It's amazing how hard they went to try and prevent any onfo getting out about the test. Plus we're not getting the nect test live, just an hour of hilights every day. FOM must be feeling pretty nervous of the new rules to go this hard.
