Another question I have for all you F1 fans, who is the driver you think was the truly most misfortunate in his career due to either injuries, bad cars, disfunctional teams, and just plain rotten luck? For me it's got to be either Jean Alesi or Martin Brundle, the former just had seemingly made all the worst career decisions while the latter suffered early leg damage and had a career of shit cars. Both of these drivers I could have seen as potential Championship drivers but it didn't play out
I think the archetype for these drivers should be Chris Amon. Started with a strong Ferrari season, then left in 1970 just as Ferrari got back into the game, Then left March for Matra in 1971 when March was getting better and Matra declined further. Later tried his hand as a driver-owner which wasn't the best of ideas. As an example how much bad luck this guy had: at the famous Monza GP 1971 which saw the top 5 cross the line within miliseconds he was originally part of that pack. But he lost his sun protection visor so he had to slow down as he simply could not see well enough to keep up. And he had leading said pack for several laps as well.

Anyone wanna take bets on which new engine is gonna shit the bed the most/least next season? With new cars + new engines there is bound to be loads of DNFs the first couple races

Red Bull running their own home-brewed engine seems really sketch to me. Sure you have loads of money but where do you fetch the engine engineering talent from. I know RB is collaborating with Ford but the engine development is happening in the UK and not the US. Its 'built Ford tough', not 'build Ford fast'.
Mercedes/McLaren/Alpine/Williams will be running Mercedes engines. Lets see what that famous German engineered reliability is worth nowadays. Mercedes did of course do wonderfully during the first years of the turbo hybrid era.
Audi being part of the Volkswagen group will have plenty of engineering talent on tap but again will be homebrewing their first engine and car. I expect them to be slower then the top manufacturers but able to finish most races.
Aston Martin driving Honda maybe just to give Newey something familiar to work on. Tbh Honda is a wildcard, idk how they will cope with the new engine regulations.
Ferrari, lol. No but in all seriousness Ferrari has been taking wins in endurance races using v6 hybrids, their first engine showing might actually not be terrible reliability wise (this might come back to haunt me)

This is of course all speculation but I do think its warranted to speculate a bit considering all the tech changes happening next season.

I'd be surprised if Redbull's engine isn't the worst on the grid, to start the year anyway.

Maybe it won't be the worst by much and the FIA supposedly have rules that allow a manufacturer to catch up, but God knows how that works in the first year of a new engine formula.
 
I have mixed feelings about it either way. Fernando is fun, sure, but, like Hamilton, he's got outside interests (managing Bortoleto for one) and isn't at the top of his game anymore.

On one hand, stubbornly hanging on closes a door for another rookie for at least another year. On the other, if this is what you do, if this is what your body is tuned for, it's hard to stop and go do something closer to what normies do. Hell, Jos Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Sr. are still active racers, so it's probably a case of "if I don't do this, I might just lose my fucking mind."
 
When I read Portugal I thought they'd bring Estoril back but Portimao sounds good too.

So any guesses if Newey will find the loophole? Or simply build the best car? Or will Mclaren bring something good? I have my doubts about Red Bull, as they poured so much into 2025 and I fear they might be a bit behind 2026. Mercees might be a bit of a dark horse. Maybe a decent car carried by the best engine or they screw it up royally. And Ferrari....if this year is any indication they are fucked

I am not convinced with the way the F1 world has moved on since the 1990's, if Newey can build the best car in his first year with the team.

It is likely that Aston Martin's technical department don't have the depth to support Newey properly in 2026, and it might take till something like 2028 before we see a full strength Newey design get implemented.

Making Newey Technical Director so late in the piece is not a good sign either in my view.

But I could easily imagine that the Aston Martin might be the 3rd best team in 2026, but I'd pick them for 4th best.
 
I know I'll reflect on it, but I believe in many ways Lando Norris might be among the worst F1 champions and I'll be bolder to say he's worse than Damon Hill. We often forget that Hill entered F1 at 31 at a time that was starting to get towards the end of ones career in the sport and for an old rookie who really didn't have any experience in cars until 23, not bad all things considered.

Though the Gulf Arabs are paying a shit ton of money and F1 wants to be seen as global. Id take the Las Vegas, Qatar, Bahrain, off the calendar and have a rotating circus of tracks.
 
So we are heading towards 10 races in the US and the remaining 15 in sandnigga shitholes.

F1 has to remember that the soul of the sport is from Europe.
