I for one think the stop/gos are fucking based actually. I'm sick of 'five second penalty but there's a 5 second gap so it means nothing'. Extreme in this case? Maybe so, but this whole year the F1 penalty system's come off as utterly toothless.

lol at Sky today wondering if Lewis will even drive next weekend.

The stop and go was insane vs a 5-10s penalty
Extreme in this case? Maybe so

2021 Austrian GP both Mazepin and Latiffi got stop goes (after the race so translated to 30 second penalties) fo failing to slow under double yellows.

2017 Spa Kimi got a stop go for failing to slow under double yellows.

It is the standard penalty.

Much like hambone getting the drive through rather than a 5 second for speeding in the pit lane, it was higher because he was 12.5 kph over. Anything over 6 kph seems to make it a drive through in the past.

Well at very least Ocon won't be

Alpine probably dropped Ocon for the last race for two reasons.

- they want to give Doohan a shot to see if they should maintain his 2025 contract.
- Alpine are in a direct fight with Haas for P6 in the WCC. They want to ensure Ocon doesn't do his trademark nuke-a-teammate move and give P6 to his soon-to-be employer.

I don't like Ocon nor do I like Alpine but I see their reasoning here.

Also, I'd be laughing if RedBull gets Lawson to replace the underperforming beaner. They might think he couldn't be worse than Perez, but the car is really specific to drive, and Lawson is no Verstappen. 2025 might be his final year in F1 if he gets the promotion.

I would give the seat to either tsunoda or ricc. Tsunoda because he is their best option now and Ricciardo because I believe he would do better in a pointy oversteery car like the Red bull than he did at McLaren and RB.

There are some suggestions it's a screw job by Briatore.

He has stated repeatedly he's after getting Colapinto into the Alpine and is apparently still in discussion about it. It was Alpine's management that signed Doohan, not Briatore.

If they signed 3 drivers for next season it would probably come with fines and all the other craziness that happened with Van Guard, and they would probably end up with penalties to pay Doohan.

If they can get rid of him for his performance in a race, however, they wouldn't have those issues and could probably just pay him out (it has also been suggested that he is only "guaranteed" 5 races with an option for the rest of the season).

It wouldn't be the first time Briatore pulled something scummy nor the first time F1 contract shenanigans happened. Bernie has outright said it'll be Colapinto in that seat in 2025 (but we all know he likes to stir the shit).

I don't understand all the Tsunoda hype and people crowing for him to take over the 2nd Red Bull seat after Checo gets kicked to the curb. He's been in F1 for four years and seems like he's reached his peak as a mid-pack driver. Sure, he doesn't tear cars up and he can score points, but if he gets put in the Red Bull, the best case scenario is that you get an angry midget version of Mercedes Bottas and the worst case is that you get a driver with his confidence destroyed. We saw what happened to every single person put in the other seat beside Max and how badly it can break them. Why would you risk that if there's no upside? At least with Lawson or Colapinto, it makes sense.

I actually think the best young guy Red Bull has coming up is Hadjar, if he can control his temper I see him adapting to F1 very quickly.

Alpine's a clown show and I feel bad for Doohan if this happens, but he's never shown anything to make me think he'd be anything in F1. His feeder series performances were pretty meh and if the rumors are to be believed, his pace is well off Gasly. Colapinto is crash-prone but has definitely shown there's something there, plus there's a huge paycheck and fanbase to go along with it. As scummy as it is, I can totally understand why this would happen. I hope Doohan lands on his feet after getting out of the French clown mobile though, and I will still laugh at Alpine being Alpine.

I wonder where Doohan would be if he stuck with the Red Bull junior development program.

But yeah, I'm not 100% sure about Doohan's longevity in F1. Webber's Law states there's only room for one competitive Australian in F1 at any given time, and there's no way Doohan comes even close to touching Pastry.

I'm guessing no longer racing as part of the Red Bull programme. That place is brutal and he's only decent. He's another who's only around because his dad knows how to play the game and has contacts.

Doohan himself knew he couldn't make it and probably didn't ever expect to be in F1. He left the red bull program because Alpine competes in a bunch of series so he was more likely to have a career path.

As said above he's supposed to be a long way of Gastly and the noise about him being chucked for Colapinto only started after they both took part in a test and team management saw the data.

Talking of Piastri how much must he be thanking Webber for getting him out of the clown show and into a winning car?

On a side note Verstappen is going to be a dad. Seems like he celebrated winning his championship very hard

Lmao, Lewis out in Q1.

Edit: Kmag punting the bollard under his car ruining his lap. :story:
He wasn't fast even before that. When he passed sector 2 he was only .08 up on the time he needed. Of course everyone is going to say it was all the bollard, rather than hambone being washed.

The constructors is over with that lap deletion and 10 place penalty for Leclerc. It was always a long shot but we won't get the excitement if the race. At least we'll get the Hass/VCARB/Clown show battle for 6th.

Max drifting his way into provisional pole.

I thought he ran it over before he started his last lap.

Anyways, Nico P4! McLaren 1-2, constructors is definitely over now.

If I was Perez I'd just let myself be run over by the safety car at this point. Imagine getting outqualified by a car from "Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber". Not to discredit Bottas of course, well deserved qualifying after a horrible season overall.

Great job from Hulk too after dragging that Haas to 4th and outqualifying Verstappen while at it too, thing looked fast the entire weekend so far.
