The real miracle with Ferrari's win yesterday is that they double stacked and didn't monumentally fuck it up. They had to hold Charles sure but they didn't forget a tire, or put on full wets by mistake, or do anything else shamefully Italian.

As much as I hate the perception of IndyCar being a retirement home for washed up F1 drivers, I think he could do well there. The guy clearly loves American culture, he picked 3 as his driver number because of Dale for God's sake.
I hate that perception too and I think he'd have the time of his life in Indycar.

How did Perez get away with a 5 second penalty for punting Albon off the track? And what is the point of a 5 second penalty in a 2 hour race, aside from making it look like they're doing something which actually makes no difference.

I really think people are going to get sick of the non-penalties. If they haven't already!

I dont remember if it was that incident or a different one, but Martin and Crofty were talking about just eating the potential penalty because the gains were worth more than the +5 seconds. Might have been one of Hamiltons many trips cutting the corners.

IMO penalty system needs reform. Driving standards need to be enforced and teams are obviously complacent about getting an advantage that outweighs the penalty. Ideally I think it would be set up like the cost cap punishments, there's a list of things that  might happen if theres an infringement, but its not plainly stated. If there's more to be gained by breaking the rules and eating the punishment, there isn't really a punishment.

If drivers had to worry about maybe getting 5-10 seconds, or maybe getting a drive through (or worse, a stop and go) with no idea what's going to happen, that uncertainty will keep them in line.

Of course, under this system we would probably be bitching about how the stewards discretion always seemed to be lenient with Hambone.

I suppose the reasoning was nobody was handing them out because the minimum was too harsh. But now we have the opposite problem because people just tank the 5 seconds with no impact. Probably should up it to 10 or 15 or go back to drive throughs but then everyone's going to be scared of the NO MIKEY moment.

Rumour has it that AT will be Tsunoda and Ricci next season with Lawson staying as RBR reserve. Seems a terrible idea if so. As many have said Ricciardo is likable but past it, get Lawson in a full time seat before someone else does (don't pull an Alpine losing Piastri).

The red bull drivers program is really schizophrenic at times switching between brutal cuts and sentiment. They dispose of some underperformed drivers really quickly while hanging on to some long past their usefulness.

The Race podcast seemed to think there was a chance that Lawson could replace Logan Sargeant at Williams

Yeah I've heard that rumour. Red Bull would be insane to let that happen though. You have a past it Ricciardo and Tsunoda is never going to be the next WDC, why keep them when you could make sure you keep a talent like Lawson locked into Red Bull controlled teams.

I don't get the Red Bull programme at times, have AT either be the brutal conveyor belt or the also rans that keep middling drivers around for the sake of it.

RedBull could simply loan Lawson to Williams, like they did with Albon at Williams, or Ricciardo in HRT back in 2011.

Obviously, there are some risks that Lawson could leave them to stay there.

And McLaren locked in Piastri until 2026. Fantastic news for me, my team needs these wins to improve. Seems they finally have a long term strategy in play. I was worried when Seidl left, but Stella seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I just wish they started developing their own engine instead of being a Merc customer. Or convince Porsche to be their engine provider. Yeah, I know, fat chance of that happening. Still, little victories.

Well they loaned Albon for 22 and Albon's contract extention for 23 and beyond included severing his Red Bull ties. So he's entirely a Williams driver.

Doing something similar with Lawson, especially with a Toto buddy running the place is definitely risking him going elsewhere. It's not just the team you're racing for but the message the placement sends. If the red bull outfit is going to keep a met driver with Honda links and a washed likable guy over you you're going to ask questions about their commitment to you.

All it takes is a Zac Brown type to do some whispering and you get the Alpine egg on face situation. Plus we have the likes of Audi starting soon who'll be out trying to snag some talent with sweet deals.

I get red bull is all in on Max, like they were with Vettel but they need to keep the conveyor running.

F1TV continues to be based with takes on the stewarding blunders. massi apparently said that the black flag is unusable due to how envoys need to constantly be sent around and no decisions can be made in a timely manor
Sky Sports could never

As for Liam, who has impressed everyone in his races so far, he will definitely help the team in his development role as a third driver, and I’m sure he will have a future in Formula 1 soon.
Given that RBR moves in mysterious ways, it wouldn't surprise me if RBR already has plans to replace Checo with Lawson in 2025.

The only wildcard is whether or not Williams get rid of Sargeant and come knocking on RB's door like they did with Albon, though the way the article is worded suggests that Lawson has been locked in as RBR's reserve driver for 2024.
