Sport leaving public broadcasts and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

The switch to sky lost a third of UK viewers, losing public broadcasts killed F1 in Germany and now you have to sell a kidney to go to an actual GP. I just want to go back to Silverstone gaddamnit :(

Also top 10 within half a second so far if this keeps up this season will be a classic.
All cars within 1,1 second. this is nuts

It's better than any English speaking coverage where it's 24/7 Lord Hamilton.

There was nothing more magical last year than seeing 3/4 of a race focused on Sir Lewis in a non-competitive car, while ever single other team, except for whoever is 1st, utterly ignored.

I literally listen to a kid Livestream his own coverage rather than listen to the English team.
I keep saying it, F1TV's ability to turn off any commentary and just listen to the camera mics is a godsend. I can just have another window open with someone liveblogging the race or whatever if I truly care.

I don’t know who isn’t rooting for Alonso, but god damn how retarded is Stroll for having a fucking bicycle accident right before the season starts. I would have to imagine pins in his wrist is going to affect his driving. Also Logan Sargeant almost making Q2 was very interesting. Williams might not be total trash this year

Stroll also has a broken toe which explains why he needed help getting out of the car. I really hope he doesn't have a crash where his car catches fire because he MUST be able to get out of the car quickly

Meanwhile in Cup, one of the top tier drivers is out for who knows how long due to snowboarding this week. It's goin' around, it is.

I'm excited for more Lewis/Fernando 'fun'.

Wolff: Mercedes must change car concept to return to top in F1

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says his team needs to change its car concept if it wants to get back to the front of Formula 1.

After a disappointing qualifying for the season-opener in Bahrain, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton qualifying sixth and seventh, Wolff said the reality of his team’s lack of performance had hit home.

With the squad having pushed on with the same car concept as last year, while many rivals had gone down the Red Bull downwash solution, Wolff said it was time to admit his outfit had got it wrong.

Having launched its new W14 with the belief it could eventually be made into a winner, Wolff said his tune had now changed and it was time to pursue other options.

Asked by Motorsport.com if he agreed with Hamilton’s assessment earlier in the weekend that Mercedes would not hit its targets with the current concept, Wolff said: “I don't think this package is going to be competitive eventually.

“We gave it our best shot all over the winter, and now we just need to all regroup and sit down with the engineers, who are totally not dogmatic about anything.

“There are no holy cows and we need to decide what is the development direction that we want to pursue, in order to be competitive to win races.

“It's not only like last year, where you are scoring many podiums and eventually you get there.

“I'm sure we can win races this season. But it's really the mid and long term that we need to look at, and which decisions we need to take.”

Wolff suggested a deep analysis of Mercedes’ long-term plan would need to be made after this weekend’s Bahrain GP.

But he was clear that even if the team elected to pursue an all-new concept, it would not give up on trying to push forward as much as it could with the W14.

“We are racers, and we are racing, and we will never give up fighting every single session to be on top,” he said.

“If you look at the pecking order, today, you say, well, it's not realistic. But I'm looking at what can we find next week? What can we add to the car? What is the change of direction that we can implement? And how quickly is that, so that maybe we can turn the ship around this year?

"It's just first qualifying of '23. That's why I don't want to discount anything for this year, while being totally realistic that it [the car] needs a lot to change a lot.”

Have Twittergruppe-SS "Lewis Hamilton" turned on Merc yet? I can see them going from the team being gods only stoppable by dirty cheaters to "fucking Toto keeping Lewis from his rightful ten championships".

Quali today wasn't brutal but boy, it was no better than last year.

It’s mostly cope from Hamilton fans, but teams don’t go 100% during testing and practice. It’s not sandbagging because they’re not doing it to hide their true performance from the other teams, but rather because they have many things other than fast laps to do. We’ll find out the real speed of the cars during qualifying today.
Nailed it. That's exactly what's happening, they confuse practice programs with sandbagging because they are r-slurs. Incidentally the qualifying pretty much exactly what we saw in practice. IMAGINE MY SHOCK!

I Lol'd, and yes they are so far up hamiltons ass it's nauseating

He got beaten to his team mate in qualifying, Can't wait for "BuT MaH ExPerImEnTaL SeTuP's" and other copium excuses to take root

Anyone else thinks Mercedes has dropped the sandbags? I mean this looks faster then anything they have shown (except aglimpse in practice a few days ago) Or is that simply because of Qualy setup?
I think you've had one too many sandbags dropped on your head that's for sure. Get it through your skull, TEAMS, DONT, SANDBAG. they run practice programs, you are confusing practice programs with some hollywood-esq idiocy of "sandbagging." Stop it, get some help

"get some help" says the Quadposter who doesn't know how to multiquote.

Lol, I say. lmao. And furthermore: The teams who go to insane lengths to keep you from seeing even trivial details of their car will absolutely form those 'practice programs' to keep you from seeing their true speed. Effective sandbagging, if you will.

I love merc going "oh shit wrong concept" at race 1. You should have made the decision over last year with the obvious spanking your were getting. You had all of winter to put a big cross through last season's mess and start again. Good luck starting a new car entirely from scratch within the cost cap geniuses.

And with Lewis losing it at the team in practice, it's going to be a fine, fine year for whine.

Toto had said that they will bring a new sidepod this year. Though if this will be succesful is another story (makes me wonder if the retirment of James Alison created such a big gap). I wonder though how close they would have been if they had used the second set of softs. Leclerc didn't and I suspect he would have maneged a 1:29. Funny thing is: if we take the results from yesterdayMercedes has the same gap to the pole as last year. just goes to show that the development is crazy. Let's just see how strong Aston is in the race and we might not see a Merc podium in the first race as I expect some technical defects and usually Mercedes had the most reliable car

The intro already sucking off Lewis and dissing Max with an edit. Sky, so predictable.

Hauger, Martins, and Theo need to be in a seat next year. Yet they won’t be because Zhou has China, alpine has a boner for Ocon, and shitnoda is a token for Honda.

Also Bahrain is one of the better tracks. I like it

Not just Alison, who has gone done a Newey and is doing boats, but also head of engines and others have been poached by Red Bull and Aston (who also picked up Newey's understudy). Maybe they just got lucky with 2020 and 2021 being mostly the same so had small revisions to do. There is also the fact that they stuck with the 2022 car for the whole season where other teams Haas and Red bull said they looked at it but decided against it.

Ocon's pretty good, he's just had good team mates; Perez, Alonso and Ricciardo. I can see at least one of the Alpha Tauri drivers leaving.

In development news:
McLaren have an update planned for Baku
Mercedes have an update planned for Imola but are pushing for Baku
Aston Martin have said by the end of the season 2/3rds of the car will be different
