Just read that allegedly the W14 seems to be a flop in regards to aerodynmic results. Allegedly the wind tunel didn't deliver the expected values. Of course i take everything from Merc with a grain of salt though I would laugh my ass of if they had produced a lemon two times in a row. Then again the W13 wasn't exactly a lemon but only competitive on a specific type of circuit (unlike Red Bull and Ferrari)

Lance Stroll has had an accident while riding a bike and will miss pre-season testing and possibly even the race.

AM's current reserve drivers are Vandorne and Drugovich and Merc would probably lend Schumacher if needed. Would Vettel show back up for another go?

And Vandorne has a race in South Africa on the 25th.

A small change in the regs in December is what is making the Ferrari and Mercedes front wings legal this season when they wouldn't have been last season.

The problem I have with it is while the new designs allow for better aerodynamic solutions for the car it increases the outwash and so we head right to the old game of dirty turbulent air and other cars finding it harder to follow.

Live testing starts tomorrow (Thursday) and it appears it will be broadcast.

My sleep pattern is currently all fucked up so I doubt I will be awake when it begins (and probably ends). This website might be a place to check for live streams for those who don't use F1TV or have SkyF1. Hope it does pan out and is useful:

(I am on a diff comp than my regular and it is an older bookmark but just checked it and seems to still be active.)

They just showed how the Ferrari nose gets slightly "pimpled" on the straights. Very interesting
It's a defective front wing apparently, the only other interesting thing on the SF-23 front wing is that they reused Mercedes' separator solution from 2022 and the nose is less sharp than the F1-75 from last year.

AlphaTauri F1 Team In Trouble As Red Bull Deems It Too Expensive To Maintain

(article)
AlphaTauri, Red Bull's sister team in F1, is facing big changes. Reports suggest that the racing team could be sold or relocated to England. It has been reported that there are already three interested parties.

The new head of sports in the Red Bull Group, Oliver Mintzlaff, is putting many things to the test that were previously taken for granted. AlphaTauri is reportedly under observation due to the current financial pressures facing the team.

AlphaTauri costs more money than its big brother, Red Bull, and will receive around $100 million less from the Formula 1 cake this year. As a result, the team has to close the gap to the cost cap itself, while the world champion team earns more money than is allowed to spend under the budget cap.

The current model with headquarters in Faenza, Italy, and the aerodynamics team in Bicester, England, is proving to be inefficient. Moreover, the level of synergies with Red Bull is not fully exploited, causing further financial pressures on the team.

There are two options currently being considered to solve the AlphaTauri problem. One is for the racing team to move to England, closer to Red Bull, to save costs in the medium term. The other is a complete sale of the racing team. Three interested parties have already expressed their interest, the same candidates who applied to the FIA for a place on the Formula 1 grid.

The FIA allows a maximum of twelve teams in the Formula 1 grid, and buying an existing team is the easier and cheaper solution for those interested in entering the premier class. However, the criteria to be admitted to the exclusive club as a new team are strict. The FIA is currently examining the applications of the candidates and will decide by April 30th whether and for whom the basics are sufficient to enter into a detailed analysis of the economic, technical, and personnel resources.

Andretti Autosport and Oliver Oakes' HitechGP team are two of the teams that have applied to join the Formula 1 field. Hitech, which has rented out Formula 2 cockpits to Red Bull juniors in recent years, is the favorite for the takeover of AlphaTauri.

The British racing team had previously attracted attention primarily through its starts in Formula 3 and Formula 2. An Indian billionaire, who owns the Mumbai Falcons Racing Team, has expressed interest in Hitech. Initially, Hitech was funded by Dmitry Mazepin, but due to the war against Ukraine, he had to resign as a donor. Meanwhile, the money should come from Dubai.

Who knows maybe Honda might be interested to buy AlphaTauri in the long run. Red Bull will get it's Ford sticker for 2026 (i think it was 2026) so it might be feasable that Honda buys an established team instead starting from scratch

I knew when Dietrich went it would mean Red Bull reassessing a lot of the stuff it's involved with. For Dietrich it was the company made money so he could have fun with racing, extreme sports etc. Very few possible replacements would feel the same way and not play the squeeze the company for every penny profit instead.

The cost cap was supposed to, among other things, stop the slide towards a grid of sterile corporate constructor teams. Let's hope AT isn't going to end up as just another manufacturer team. Let's face it all the notable teams (not just the winning ones) through the history of the sport have been independent with the exception of Ferrari (and maybe Merc).

So, first race is actually next weekend, is @New Fag still around to get the fantasy comp league going?

I watched scattered parts of testing, it was like watching paint dry. The biggest thing I took away from it is it looks like McLaren have fallen hard. They may be fighting with Williams to not come last. What a turnaround if that is what does play out this season. I think Alfa and Haas should do a bit better, Ferrari engine may be improved.

Aston Martin is being touted in some places to actually be in the fight with Merc for 3rd. We shall see I guess! I might put a fiver down for Alonso to get a podium or some similar type bet. Looks like it will be Drugo for Lance. I never heard any real details about Stroll's incident, although at time it was described as "minor", but it can't be that minor if he may actually miss the first race. I said it a few times in past years in this thread, Stroll must need glasses or something. I bet any money whatever happened to cause him injury was his own fault. Anyone hear anything definitive about what happened?

RB seems like they will be dominating again, I just hope Checo ups his game and he takes the fight to Max as RB may have inched just enough ahead of Ferrari to be the sure bet to win most of the races this year.

Hope I am wrong, but with the limited view that testing gave me, I see RB solidly first, Fer solidly 2nd, MERC/AM battling over 3rd but Merc due to experience winning out (but would be great if Merc loses another place in WCC, that will NOT go down well!). Then the usual Alpine/Alfa/Haas fight for 5th (in that order), AT 8th and McL/Williams for 9th/10th.

Been watching some analysis videos regarding the car designs.

So it seems that the rest of the grid is copying RB's concept, while Merc and Ferrari are going with their own concepts.

Also, teams fighting for outwash, despite the rules looking to reduce outwash. I do wonder what would happen to car designs if the rules just say, you generate any amount of downforce however you wish (vacuum cleaners not allowed), but you're only allowed this much outwash.

Also, ducting is apparently in vogue?

Some say Merc is currently only the 4th fastest team with Aston taking P3. I for one doubt Merc has shown everything they have. Wolff even said that the outer look of the car will change shortly. I think they are still sandbagging. I expect Red Bull to dominate the season as Ferrari has to readjust with it's new teamboss.

Also what goes the bet that Drugovich will race the first two races for Aston Martin? The Vettel gag is already over so I expect Aston to give the drive to Drugovich who at least has some training under his belt

It's me who sets up the league. It launches tomorrow for the season so I'll sort it and post up the code sometime tomorrow.
Oh yes, right. Sorry about that. It was New Fag who won the first year we did this comp. That's why I thought of him. LOL Thanks for setting it up again!

Know I am double-posting, but since my last post was 3 days ago does it fucking matter?

Not sure what happened, but only 13 teams in the league so far, no posts for days...are we getting tired/bored with F1 before it even starts? LOL

Will be in bed when FP1 & 2 are on tomorrow but will watch them upon waking on rerun. In addition to the link I posted few days ago for a livestream, here are three I used last year, so hope they work again for those who might need them:

I probably won't be able to check to see if these work until Qualifying on Saturday morning. If anyone tries them for FP1&2, let me know if they work.

I made a number of bets on the race see how I do come checkered flag! Anyone else making or made any?
