I think it's probably going to be a Red Bull v Mercedes year with Ferrari being clear best of the rest but not really challenging. They put too many eggs into developing the 22 car which was neerfed hard in the mid-season technical directive. Unfortunately I doubt they will recover back to the top over winter.
Not so sure about that yet. Ferrari had a good car which they can use as base (if they can find out why their second big upgrade fucked tyre conservation). If they can conserve the form of Abu Dhabi (partially even faster then RedBull) then 2023 might get more exciting. I really hope they have solved their engine issues and can blast that thing to the max next year. Funny thing to watch will be Mercedes if Russell can beat Hamilton again. This year might have been an exception but if Russell can make it stick Hamilton might regret signing on for more year (as he has planned for the end of this year)

I want Ferrari to win just to mix things up. Also for more proper battles between Max and Lec. And of course, hopefully Lec doesn't have to fight with his team as well.

Like seriously, that team needs to hire an actual drill sergeant to beat them into championship winning form.

Piastri Will better than Ricciardo
I think he'll be more successful than Ricciardo, possibly even the first Australian WDC winner since Alan Jones in 1980.

Better? I'm not sure yet.

Ricciardo had some pretty bad luck and made a couple of (in hindsight) poor decisions in his F1 career. If Piastri can avoid making Ricciardo's mistakes, then yeah.. he probably will end up being better than Ricciardo.

Piastri is definitely the most exciting rookie we've seen for a while, though.

I read that Andretti plans to use Alpine engines and simply slap the Cadillac name on them (just like Aston Martins slaps their name on the Mercedes engine) and allegedly that is also what RedBull plans with Ford. General Motors themselves haven't made an official F1 debut except for their trade partner Repco who build a solid engine in the mid 60's (2 championships)

It's not a bad marketing move for GM. They've been fiddling with the sports cars for a while.

It's also I think their first official F1 attempt. Ford (rather famously) and Chrysler (barely, sort of) already have.
My only question mark with GM is "Will they flake out in a fit of impatience like Ford did with the Jaguar F1 project back in the 2000s?"

My biggest dissapointment out of that is they said they were going to concentrate on the WRC effort... which promptly didn't improve at all. I don't really blame them for noping out of F1, it's kind of thankless.

If Caddy's really relabled Alpine, then LAME.

Wouldn't be the first or probably the last time this happens. at least they're actual car makers as opposed to fairly recently when Red Bull branded their engines as TAG Heuer. Since when does a manufacturer of mediocre overpriced watches start building engines?

This link is kinda tenuous. Repco based their F1 engine on an Oldsmobile block, but that's about as far as GM's F1 involvement with Repco went. However Repco did work closely with General Motors-Holden on the Formula 5000 engine. F5000 started in 1968, whereas Repco's last F1 titles won in 1967 (Denny Hulme being WDC, Repco Brabham being Constructors' Champions).

TAG as a company was quite heavily involved in the 80's Porsche engine project with Mclaren. Got 3 driver titles and 2 constructor titles out of it. That's why that name got revived for a bit when RBR shat the bed with their engine dealings and everyone involved wanted to save a bit of face.

I don't know why anyone would want that Renault engine after last season...

If they're entering before 2026, it does make sense to just buy an engine. No point wasting time and money on something you can only use for 2 years maximum. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The real question though. Who do you think they'll get to drive for them? Herta for sure if he gets his super license, but who to fill the second seat?

It seemed to have decent power, but poor reliability and under the engine freeze rules, you can make changes to fix up reliability issues.
Didn't those exceptions run out in September last year? Now the engines are frozen till 2026. Ferrari used that to overhaul it's engine (they also reduced power until Abu Dhabi)
