In general I agree but it was getting pretty dark in the interviews. Four hours and move the start time up an hour. Yeah, bad for Euro TV, but...
There's always what they did in NASCAR one time at Kansas; run the race until the FIA deem it too dark to safely resume, then declare the following lap the final one. There was definitely sufficient light for at least another 5 - 6 laps in there (not including the 1 they didn't actually race when Max crossed the finish line before 0:00).

BTW, since StatsF1 hasn't updated yet, does anyone know if Mick actually lead that one lap where Alonso pitted and Max overtook him on the main straight? Would be awesome if he did. Shame the team fucked him over again; they should have pitted him before anyone else and he'd have finished comfortably ahead of Latifi. Again, it does speak volumes when the full wets appear to be completely useless. Either F1 should forcefully mandate full wet tyres in these conditions to give everyone a chance, or Pirelli need to begin engineering a wet tyre that can actually grip.

Terrific racing at the end from Alonso and Vettel for the latter to have dragged himself back up through the field after his lap 1 spin. Really redeemed himself in my eyes after his godawful start to the year, he's still bit of a hypocritical fag though.

I'm also thinking about getting F1TV next year, since it's only ~$25 in the UK for the whole year, and I won't have to rely on unreliable dodgy streaming sites (which cut out during last race), nor do I have to sit through the unbearable obligatory lap 2 start replay instead of focusing on where the action actually is. Also, the best part?

Bye Crofty, you smug insufferable prick.

You couldn't really do that given how important strategy is in F1. If they had told them there at this GP would be another 6 laps before they started they would have all definitely pitted again not just Alonso. It would cause too much controversy if they did it on a subjective thing.

Say a driver is running right up in a podium/winning place and then goes off on the last lap. How much of a debate would we have over if the light was too low, if they should have ended it one or more earlier and so on.

Some great performances from the former the World Champions at one of the best circuits on the calendar. Conditions like this show the true mettle of drivers. Even Hamilton was decent and seemed to whine less than usual.

The Red Bulls exemplify the qualities that I want to see more of in this sport: Bravery and tenacity. That could be Verstappen off the start refusing to let go of his fading first place, or Perez hanging onto Leclerc's back wheels like an attack dog right up until the last corner. The Red Bull is the best car on the grid but there is no complacency behind the wheel. The championship was a foregone conclusion, but it was a shame that it was clinched through a time penalty.

The only situation where a crane should be on the track (and particularly on one with such low visibility) is if the race has been fully stopped and all cars have been halted and accounted for, either in the pits or on the grid. The consequences of heavy machinery sharing space with F1 cars endures in living memory and in the memory of a man taken well before his time.

If you apply that you get a red flag stopage in the race every time a car breaks down. Then they can do all the tyre changes and a restart totally eliminating strategy and pit stops. We'd have almost every race interrupted 2-3 times and ending with a timer.

As the guys said at the sky pad the problem is no one listens to double waved yellows, safety car regulations or red flag regulations in relation to being able to stop if necessary. They lift a bit and drive to the times on the dash rather than being able to stop.

That was a batshit safety car gamble for Mick from Haas yesterday. But maybe I can understand since at that point they had nothing to lose and were only in contention for 1-2 points. Zhou suffered from the same safety car gamble and went down to P16.

On the flip side the early inter gamble worked really well for Seb and Nicholas GOATIFI - P6 and P9 from P18 and P15 respectively.

Oh right Max Verstappen is world champion now after Chucky went too aggressive into T16. It didn't feel exciting as 2021 but certainly had more soul (?) to it than Lewis Hamilton's 2020 title win, I guess.

We got the FIA statement (and I thought they would verdicuck us AGAIN): Aston Martin has a "procedural breach" and Red Bull a minor cost limit breach as well as a procedural breach. And in theory the following penalties are possible: a simple reprimand, points deduction for constructeurs and drivers in the year of the breach (2021), reduced budget for coming years, reduced testing time. Let's see how this plays out though I suspect they will stay the results from 2021 as is. A more reduced budget or reduced testing might be more effective especially with the increasing costs

Energy drink bros, did we get too cocky?

I doubt they'd strip points from the drivers, see McFerrari. Exclude RB from 2021 constructors and have to pay back the winnings and a fine/reduced budget maybe?

There's a rumour going round that it's due to illness and catering costs which sounds a bit far fetched but would be funny.

Will RB accept the FIA's penalty or take it to the arbitration panel?

Catering costs? Aren't those excluded from the budget limit? If not that would indeed be funny "Hey guys we can't serve fine wine and caviar anymore we need to mind our budget. So from this day onwards it's McDonalds happy meals!"

Max had one too many 16oz Red Bulls :c

I think it's extremely likely that the overspend is stuff RBR thought was not included while the FIA decided it was. The first year of these sorts of regs are always going to cause this sort of thing. Especially if you include accountants, see also every tax system and loophole ever.

Joke diversity series crowns champion and quits the season. So much for being a development series.

Oh god could you imagine if they just had 'free' red bulls in fridges for the staff and visitors and the FIA decided that each one counted as £1.50.

I've found my truth for the matter and no dirty fact will change my mind.
The final 4 - 5 rounds alone, especially the last 2, probably saw them chug twice as many cans as they did for the entire season up to that point.

I'd like to think that RBR has put their lawyers onto this. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up before the courts.

Especially since they still maintain their final accounts were under the limit and they have answered all of the auditor's questions.

There is no way they aren't completely fucking broke. "Securing funding" sure, but Austin had to be a big deal date for them, US corps and teams had to be a primary target for hype.

Yeah, they're definitely in the red. Not an impossible number to recoup in their environment but I would have expected them to be drowing in woke money, not having sponsors pull out (or not pay on the first place).
