I mean, I would apply Hanlon's razor to the Alonso situation as well, but the idea that Alpine might have reached out to Piastri to secretly replace Alonso, with Piastri giving that info to Alonso via his friend Webber and them deciding to take Alpine for a ride... well. What goes around comes around.

Maybe, but Alonso wouldn't have been able to do much with that info were it not for Seb creating an opportunity to join AM...

That being said, the timing of Alonso's announcement - one day after the expiration of a clause that would've tied Piastri to Alpine for 2023 had they offered Piastri a seat for the 2023 season - is one heck of a coincidence.

Nah, maybe it was just a really neat coincidence that opened up a gap for Alonso to fuck with Alpine, but it's weird. Alpine claims they wanted to sign on Alonso and thought they'd almost nailed out the deal when they were blindsided by his AM deal. Something doesn't fit.

The easiest explanation is that Alonso got one hell of a sweet deal from AM and Piastri has one hell of a sweet deal from someone else...
 
Rumours are McLaren are looking at buying out Ricciardo's contract. But I think Piastri has actually backed himself into a corner because if Riccardo says no and there's no clauses in his contract that allow McLaren to remove him, Piastri will have the choice of McLaren reserve or slinking back to Alpine.

But who do you get rid of - rising star Tsunoda or dropout Gasly? I guess they could always send Gasly to Alpine in a swap.
 
I dont know how Alpine looks at DR and wants him after all this. I'm racking my brain but I can't see Danny wanting to go back to Alpine or Alpine wanting to pay him. I seriously believe Danny's F1 career could be over at the end of this year if Piastri gets his seat.

Gasly to Alpine makes the most sense to me, as they'd then have a full-French team. RBR might want to consider Tsunoda as a Perez replacement after 2023, unless they want to bring on Lawson or Hauger from F2.

Ric seems poised for an Indycar switch at this point unless he REALLY wants to stay at McLaren, which I don't see the team allowing him. They might have thought about casting him off to AM before Alonso snatched it up, but now they probably just want to get rid of him as soon as possible so they can either plan to sweep up Gasly, take on Piastri, or get some other RB castoff.

Unless theres some wacky shenanigans like Alfa dropping Zhou (personally think it's unlikely due to his appeal to the chinese market) and Mick moving into his spot I'm inclined to agree with you.

Let him come party stateside in IndyCar, we'd love to have him

Hopefully Ricciardo will dig his heels in to force McLaren into paying him out rather than making him quit (which would explain why he said he was intending to stick with McLaren until the end of his contract), allowing him to party stateside in IndyCar with a $10m parting gift from McLaren. He could see out the rest of his open-wheeler days in the States before eventually going into semi-retirement in Australia. I'd love to see Ricciardo as a co-driver at the Bathurst 1000 sometime before the decade is out.

Danny would have way more fun in Indycar and/or Cup. Obviously you wanna stay for the money, though.

Colton should be seething at his inability to be consistent, and Andretti's inability to make good strategy calls and build a reliable car. He really needs to take a huge step next year to get those super license points  if Andretti's entry gets approved.

Doesn't help the FIA discounts Indycar heavily in its Super license points system. Anyone with eyes can see Herta knows how to drive.
 
The last dispute to go through the contract recognition board was Button signing for Williams while BAR said they still had him under contract. They ruled Button was under contract with BAR so couldn't move to Williams. BAR became Honda, that became Brawn so it all worked out well for Button.

So you ask am I going anywhere with this? Well...

Alex Palou has got to be madder, after all that bridge-burning with Chip he still didn't get the seat he wanted because Piastri out-bridge-burned him.

Reduction in 'jokers' the teams have to break these downtimes without penalty.

A trial at 2 races of a new Qualifying format and fewer tyres.

I actually like the idea of the change to Qualifying as to do well the car needs to be able to work on all tyres.

I definitely dislike that one. It feels gimmicky trying to force some sort of mixed up grid since sprint hasn't done it for them. Over 1 lap a fast car is still a fast car while a slow car is a slow car, the tyres make some difference but a Williams on hard isn't faster than a ferrari on hards.

If anything it disadvantages the slower teams. If you use hards in q1 you are out one set of new hards for the race. The fast teams can probably get away with 1 flying lap so the set end up nearly new while the slower teams will have to give it a few goes wrecking that set.
 
For those that keep up with Indycar, Nashville GP just wrapped up and was just as much of a mess as it was last year. Although I will say that Indycar has their head on straight and actually threw the red flag when there was a wreck in the last couple laps so the drivers could actually race to the finish.

I think, all told from when I started watching the pre-race coverage 30 minutes before start to the checkered, I had the Nashville race on for about 4 hours. LOL

It was definitely enjoyable and crazy, but soooo many cautions and then the red flag, So many drivers with a story o0r two to tell after that race! Was there anyone that did not have some issue, event, moment etc at some point?

Long race, but other than some drivers I root for not doing well in the last 10 or 20 laps, there was enough action to keep me entertained for the 4 hours of watching.
