I know I should probably watch these races live, but Sky F1 has made them unwatchable. I can handle either shitty direction or Crofty/Kravitz sucking Hambone off, just not both at the same time.

TBH I feel like I get a much better race experience by reading this thread.

As for the race itself... it sounds almost as though Hambone got his podium on merit rather than pigroach luck for once. It's just a shame that Max did better from further back in field... though Crofty's face was buried so deep inside Hambone's anus that he didn't notice the final result.

I disagree, heads need to roll literally at Ferrari. It's times like these I wish the mob had investments in Scuderia Ferrari, shit would look a lot better, if the most egregious failures lead to a concrete-shoe fitting and a trip to the local pier.

Ferrari have thrown away uncontestable victories and secure podium-places through nothing but bad strategy calls and rampant incompetence. And I am telling you now:
It's all downhill from here. We'll look back at Ferrari blowing a 100%-in-the-bag victory in Monaco and call them the good times. Ferrari will implode in the rest of the season.

I'd say its 50/50. Because part of it was Ferrari absolutely fucking up, they qualified 2 and 3. But to be fair: once that set of softs went on for the final stint that car, for whatever reason, just came alive and he charged up the field.


I'm still trying to figure out in what universe they thought putting hards on Leclerc would be a good idea. The only thing I can come up with is that they were worried the mediums were going to put them at risk and the softs wouldn't last to the end, which only leaves the hards. But as Lewis showed, the medium had plenty of life left in it. And as it was showed with Kmag and one of the Alpines(?) the hard was just not a suitable tire for the race.
 
From what I read is that the data showed Ferrari that the Hard would be the best tyre for the end. Apparently they didn't watch how Alpine and Haas were falling down the order by using the same tyre. I think their simulations operated with the assumption of higher temperatures as ironically the Ferrari seems to treat it's tyres better the hotter it is (Austria and France seem to confirm this theory). On the flipside Mercedes seem to work better when it's colder (though not in rainy conditions) as they seem to get their tyres warm up faster which would explain why Hamilton was able to boost through the field in the end.

And for one I might give Ferrari a bit of leeway: just think where they were in 2020 and 2021: in the lower midfield or upper midfield. This is the first time since 2018 that they have a chance for a title (hopefully not the only for the next coming years). They don't have the experience to fight under immense pressure (at least on the pit wall) and Leclerc is for all his speed still inexperienced in a real title fight unlike Verstappen. I hope the break gives them time to get their act together and then make some real good races. Hopefully Belgium won't be the water games from last year though honestly for Belgium and Monza I see RedBull in a better position then Ferrari. And let's not forget come Belgium the FIA has new rules in regards to porpoising. Let's see if that has any effect

I'm sure the Crofty and Kravitz "banter" and analogies have gotten far worse, inane and drawn out than ever this year.

Using buying sweets on your holiday to describe how tyres are a finite resource was retarded, drawing it out for a good 5 minutes during a race was infuriating.

It really feels like they've dumbed everything the fuck down. They've gone from explaining things to adults who may not know the sport to trying to explain everything like the audience is 5.

They miss so much deeper analysis of events because they're too busy explaining how a car has wheels, how the white line is the outer edge of the track, or commenting on a ferrari plan radio message that they don't know the meaning of anyway.

Take the French GP for example, they were too busy talking basic level nonsense to tell us the starting tyres of the grid and implications for race strategy.

Then there's the graphics cycling between shit like tyre age, number of pitstops, and the driver's name rather than say the gaps. I know the relative age of tyres, because I watched the stops. I know how many stops they had, because I watched the stops... The interval is the important stat, especially in the world of DRS. Whoever made it so hilighting a battle on the graphics took away the interval should be booted.

Maybe Alonso wants to wind down his career and decided that there are worse ways to do it than to babysit Lance for a couple of years before retiring.

If Piastri doesn't get an F1 drive in 2023 I'll be shocked and appalled. Not necessarily Alonso's old seat, though. It all depends on whether or not McLaren and Ricciardo part ways at the end of the season.

Alonso are you fucking crazy

I would love a genuine alpine front runner, especially after rotten years like 2014/16 except for the romain spa podium.

Mercedes had a good weekend with a double podium in F1 and 1st and 2nd at the 24hrs of Spa, their 1st victory since 2013 thanks to AMG team akkodis AS. Merc almost got a full lock out, but thankfully an Iron Lynx Ferrari with Davide Rigon at the wheel put a nice stop to that.

Despite the FIA and certain drivers praising women in motorsport, I have yet to see them acknowledge the iron dames efforts, which came first in the gold cup and earlier at the WEC 6hrs of Monza, got pole position in class and finished second in class. Despite this, drivers like Carmen Jorda, Tatia Calderon, and 99% of the w series drivers are promoted WTF.

Well I guess Alonso wants to make a good chunk of money before retiring. Can't blame him for that. And with Aramco pumping Millions of $ into AM he might even see a good team for him

Also women in Rallye sport don't seem to get the acknolegdment they deserve. Just think of Michele Mouton and how Carmen Jorda spoke of here. Ugh.

Also in the US Drag races there are a lot of women competing. Yes it's Drag racing but that sport isn't exactly a children's birthday party

Christian Horner said pretty much the same about their choice of starting tyre after the race. Their data appearently showed the hards being the best tyre to start on, but both drivers complained and the team listened to their feedback instead of solely relying on data. That's what you have to do to win and that's why ferrari won't.

100% agree they've dumbed it down.

It's a shame, because one hand I want more people to get into F1 and not gatekeep them away with "complicated" technical and rule knowledge on the other hand there's just so much nuance to the sport that you can't just skip over it and which even enhances the experience imo.

The mainstream F1 discussion is already dominated by braindead hot takes and unnecessary drama and it will get even worse if F1 continues to lure fans in with promises of that kind of drama, crashes and personal rivalries.

Classic Alonso move. Although it might be that he has just resigned to being a mid-fielder for the rest of his career and saw an opportunity to cash out while easily beating daddy's boy.

I think people delude themselves when thinking another story like Brawn 2009 can happen nowadays. The midfield teams can at best close the gap to the top teams a bit but never seriously challenge them. I thought the rulechanges this year could maybe do that, but even that was evidently not enough. The only 'unexpected' podium this year was Norris in Imola, other than that it was the same teams that held 95% of the podiums for the better part of a decade.
Call me desillusioned but if you're not sitting in a RedBull, Ferrari or Mercedes you can at best hope to prove yourself enough in the midfield so that one day they might pick you up and you get a shot at the championship.

The only optimism I have is that their new factory should surely be almost done, so maybe new facilities should put them further up the grid, well, 1 car anyway.

In case you don't know how this racing prodigy got to play F1 test driver, and I really do mean play, it is because of Bernie. He went up and down the grid, pimping her to teams, but none were interested. Matthew Carter, of 1 very broken lotus, apparently had meetings with Bernie stressing how this has to be serious, she has to be professional, etc. All she had to do was turn up in kit, be professional and learn. That was it. Well, she was late to the first race as she was shopping and was not in kit.

Hence why she was at the races and not Marco Sorensen, who had the same job and was doing all the donkey sim work and was 12 seconds faster A LAP than Carmen, to which she said

Yeah Rally isn't F1. Rally is imho more intense then F1 as one mistake can send you to the hospital or even your death. F1 is way more cleaner today. I am just waitzing for the first treans woman enter the W series dominating and then being the first F1 "female" pilot to score a podium
 
Well AM said Vettel's retirement announcement a surprise to them so either a they made a very quick deal with alonso (ie big numbers he couldn't turn down) or they were already planning on ousting Vettel anyway. Did this come as news to Alpine or had they already started making plans to replace him?

rally is a tight rope category. Thank God, the cars are as safe as they get.

I was out for a run and had the same thought. Nicki Thiim needs to shave his beard, grow his hair out a bit more, and identify as female to become a 10-time W Series champ. and become the woman of the year sorry Liam Thomas
