I really had high hopes for AM and Vettel this year... I mean, not "challenging the title" hopes but "getting on the podium once or twice" hopes.

Guess that's it then. I'm really sad that this is how it all ends for Vettel, Ferrari gave him no car fit to challenge Mercs (admittedly, they were the only ones at least getting close in before 2020) and then Ferrari treated him like garbage in 2019 and especially in 2020. AM now fumbles around, too. Can't blame Vettel for leaving, but I sincerely hope that he'll stick around and act as a mentor to Schumacher. If AM was smart, they'd keep Vettel around as expert, but I doubt it.

They won't. Many of the management of AM have abandoned ship because Lawrence runs the place with an iron fist. I'm guessing that's a large part of why Vettel wants out too, if he felt he could work to develop the teams aswell he'd probably see some reason to sticking around.

The car company ain't doing great under Lawrence either

Yup, no more Vettel.

Can't say I blame him. Ferrari rat fucked him and he ended up a team where the boss made a ton of promises but its just a vanity project for his kid.

He has been quite clearly pursuing interests outside of F1. I hope he sticks around the paddock enough to mentor Schumacher still because that's been wholesome as hell to watch.

I wonder how easy it will be for daddy stroll to attract talent to that team. Guessing not very now it's clear it's not great and he ain't going to be listening to anyone with expertise.

Will Toto be quick to get De Vries in, will Drugovich's money be too attractive, will Piastri or Porchaire get a rightful seat on the grid? Will daddy Stoll see his chance for Canada dreamteam and lure GOATiffi, break out the big engineering monies and then we hear "oh Canada" 24 times next season?

Hahaha, no.

Drugo has money? I thought that was partly the reason why he couldn’t get on with a team was because he had no money

I think how Vettel was treated by Ferrari at the end really shattered the will of wanting to continue. Never meet your heroes.

I could see it coming. Vettel's been very forthright and proactive in regard to the causes he supports, while acknowledging that his current role makes him a hypocrite on matters regarding climate change. In a sport that leans heavily on its sponsors and a hotchpotch of unsavoury regimes, you only do that when you feel you have nothing to lose. He can use his platform to signal boost in the remaining races. I will be interested to see what kind of statement, if any, he makes at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Powerlevel

I don't agree with every political stance the man has taken, but I respect the hell out of him. Seb was the foundation of my F1 exposure. I started watching in 2011, picked Red Bull as I liked the drink as a kid, and then got to watch the greatest season ever the next year round. He will always be one of the greatest in my eyes, just due to all the talent in the field when he won his four.

You can certainly say Vettel helped to build that team into the powerhouse it is. He worked hard with Newie ans Horner to make that team into what it is. They went through multiple rule changes designed to cripple them like double diffuser ban, blown diffuser ban, change to pirelli tyres, introduction of DRS and so on. They only got fully fucked over when Renault couldn't deliver a decent engine to save their lives (and the FIA baked Mercedes dominance into the rules).

If he was smart he'd put Mick in the seat since he learned a lot from Seb and he can slot right in with minimal changes. Of course, I can see Daddy Stroll deciding that Drugo or De Vries is better to putter around in 19th place. And I can also see Mick not being too interested in what's basically a lateral move at this point.
Now that is funny "Front wheels ahead of his rear wheels"! Is he sure he wanted to say that out loud. That is not "In front" that is not even side by side that is next to him but not convincingly enough for an overtake. Especially when your counterpart narrows the part of the track so you have to brake earlier lest you run out of track. Is the viewing position in the Merc so bad you can't anticipate where your car is? Verstappen and Leclerc can show you a thing or two about good close fighting
You only had your "front wheels ahead of his rear wheels" because you sent it into that chicane, you dumb fuck!

Hey everyone, hope you all have been doing well and enjoying your summer, save for those of you in mid-winter in the southern hemisphere!

Finally back from vacation, detoxified and caught up on all the racing I missed while away. Sad that my return timing coincides with Seb's announcement. Will be sad to see him go, but trundling around in that shitbox AM was always tough to watch. He has the world at his feet and I expect he won't fade into obscurity so eager to see what he gets involved with in the future.

The points lead is pretty large now and its close to the point where Max only needs 2nd place finishes to win the title. If Fer/Lec don't do well this weekend, or Max doesn't hit a bad run, the remainder of the year is going to be anti-climatic a bit when it comes to the big prizes. I still hope for some good races ahead at least. Will Merc actually be able to pull off a win before the end of the season? That is the big question for me now. If Max hit issues last race, they would have. With the way Fer are cocking up, they could even nab 2nd in the WCC.

It's genuinely really sad to look at stuff like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufB9B1WRxTs and compare it with how Ferrari basically utterly ruined him. All that shit, then you end up dealing with the Stroll family to finally finish off your enthusiasm.

I'd make a few (utterly retarded) bets on who will end up taking the next seats that are going to open by the end of this season but... I don't want to, this is just sad. Shocking too, even if I think a lot of people saw it coming. He was a good driver, and well worthy of everyone's respect.

Edit; Okay, two retarded predictions-

Piastri/Drugovich to Aston if Danny Ricc doesn't make a last minute dive towards relevancy and makes a move to AM. Daddy Stroll apparently wants a big name at AM and Danny's just about the only person who I'd expect to jump in considering that he's clearly on borrowed time at McLaren at this point. They've got enough backup drivers that they have to do something.

Williams will probably end up chasing a bit of Renault money and take Piastri though, is my bet. He's still a champion and I highly doubt Alpine will push Alonso out, since he clearly has absolutely no interest in retiring anytime soon. (I'd say, in fact, he's probably going to leave after Loois)

Almost certainly wrong, but I'm down for a clown season.

Double post for Breaking News:

Porsche to acquire 50% share of Red Bull Racing, deal has been greenlit! Porsche will enter F1 in 2026.

Sources as of now are only in German, it seems. Here's one: https://www.focus.de/sport/formel1/...hoerden-geben-gruenes-licht_id_124318717.html

Called it!

I've heard unfounded rumours that VAG doesn't like the idea of starting from scratch so a nice engine department staffed with experienced people would be tempting for them.

And Porsche are rumoured to be picking up red bull power trains.

Sad to see Vettel go he's been extremely like-able but it's understandable, fucked by Ferrari and Stroll Sr has somehow fucked up a team which did so well on a small budget.

Mick is ferrari academy so I can't see him going to a merc affiliated team. Mick will be at Haas or Alfa. It will be De Vries or Stoffel van fail if they take a Merc driver. Otherwise it will be Lawrence wanting someone to pretend they're actually a legitimate team rather than a vanity project which was basically Seb's role.

I still want team Canada, Latiffi bring money and is someone Lamce can beat constantly for credibility purposes.

Stroll should offer Lewis 100 million just for the shits and giggles. Like to see how that would all play out!

I just read that there is an 80% of rain Saturday, so let's hope that holds true and we get some antics during Q, assuming the pussification of the FIA doesn't rear its ugly head and they red flag, or worse, cancel the session.
The only thing I know about this is that Lewis Hamilton is a faggot am I right on that one? I saw a picture he's literally smaller than Tom cruise

Is it just me or did the sports popularity come out of nowhere in America not talking shit just wondering
Being in Canada myself, it was always popular here more than the USA I would say. Having the Villeneuves helped for sure. With the USA, you had also Indy and Nascar and with the weird times for most F1 races in NA (usually early Sunday mornings) I think it never got as much traction previously as most americans would watch their racing on Sunday afternoons.

But now with the DTS show, social media and pushing races on US soil, in a way yes, after so many decades of not really being hugely popular on a larger basis, this new surge has kind of come out of nowhere over the last couple of years. It would be interesting to see how much further this popularity goes if there is ever an Amercian driver who gets podiums or wins or fights for the title.

How hard was it to be an F1 fan in the US at times in the 80s/90s: David Letterman, a man of means (and his own CART team) used to pull strings so he could drive up from New York to ESPN HQ to be there at six in the morning on F1 weekends so he could watch their satellite feed of it rather than tape delay bullshit sometimes days later.
