It's already shaping up to be a Max vs Charles season. Perez and Sainz are nowhere near keeping up with them in either race so far.

It should be good because both like the aggressive wheel to wheel style rather than Hamilton who just cries it's so dangerous when someone overtakes him.
 
Fun enough race.

Though this may come off as complete salt since I support Ferrari, but Max bitching about LeClerc moving too quickly under a yellow flag (And the 'convenient' passing of the pit markers) when he got a proper advantage off that VSafety Car can get fucked. At least he calmed down on it later. (After his win, though.)

Though if anything, it's Checo I feel really sorry for, poor cunt just has the absolute worst luck around.

This is shaping up to be a great season. Max vs Charles is a battle we've been waiting for for years and now we are going to get it.
 
Also worth to note: when Ferrari and Red Bull threw their gloves off they annihilated the rest of the field. Just look at the gap Russell had to the 4 ahead

What a great race. Sad for Perez, that he pitted at the worst possible time, for all those that couldn't finish the race, but happy for the outcome. Overall a great race that was a total nailbiter at multiple stages.

Hamilton for once rather unlucky with the VSC and the closed pitlane just when it was time for him to change tyres.

I dunno. DRS in general is teh big gay, but when drivers take advantage by allowing someone to do a pass before they counterattack the next straight with DRS, at least it leads to interesting strategies on the road. Hamilton went into the trap, so that gave me a good chuckle.

Oh yeah. And in contrast to Ver/Ham, Ver/Lec kinda manage to go wheel to wheel for several corners and still have a good fair fight without a crash. Hope it'll stay like that.

He's trying hard to speedrun my complete opinion 180 on Hamilton over 3-4 seasons.
 
I hope K-Mag doesn't lose his position to Lewis on the double yellow penalty. That move by Haas to pit him just before the pitlane closed was absolutely brilliant.

Besides, the cope from Lulu fanboys about getting beat by a Haas would be just too good.

I occasionally rewatch Top Gear's tribute to Ayrton Senna, as it's one of the best films TG ever made. I struggle to reconcile the fact that current year Hambone is the same dude that Jezza interviewed in that TG film made in the late '00s. It's like comparing Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson to HIStory-era MJ. Only instead of mangling his face, Hambone managed to mangle his personality.

I didn't catch the race, but I'm disappointed for Checo. Sounds like he had some shitty luck. I'm even more disappointed for Ricciardo though.

On the flip side, stoked to see that Leclerc took the fight up to Max, and a Max vs Leclerc WDC battle would be epic. Also stoked to see K-Mag in the points again. Here's hoping Haas has better luck in Melbourne.

Just a small update: there will be no penalties for the waved double yellows in Lap 49 and 50. So the finishing order stays as is.
 
I watched the final laps of the race. There was something present in the battle for first place that I haven't really seen in the sport for some time: The different personalities of the two drivers are evident in the way that they race each other. Max is gifted, possibly the more intuitive of the pair, but over-emotional. Charles is cooler and there is a grace in the way he handles the Ferrari that elevates his driving into the realm of the aesthetic. There were moments when he was taking a corner and the way he had the car positioned was beautiful in and of itself.

Hamilton has had his own flashes of genius, but, like the man, there is an emptiness to his race craft; a peevish absence of true passion. On paper he is one of the most successful drivers ever to have graced F1. In person he seems estranged from the sport. This is no more evident than when you compare him to Verstappen vs LeClerc. These men are racers. They are where they belong. I don't know where Hamilton belongs; where he would be genuinely happy. It makes me feel sorry for him.

On a tangent, the FIA have got to get a handle on the DRS and this whole staying behind to get ahead nonsense, which, besides being counter-intuitive, is going to be the cause of a truly stupid accident. It's reached the proportion of an exploitation in a videogame that isn't quite cheating but still feels like poor form.

The way you described it gives me Senna vs Prost vibes. Whilst Max has a completely different personality to Senna, he's obviously not too far removed in terms of raw natural talent and temperament. Meanwhile, the Frenchman in the Ferrari is more cerebral in his approach. It'd be great to see the same sort of rivalry develop, leading to similar battles for races and ultimately the WDC.

Thankfully with 3 decades' worth of safety improvements, the likelihood of Max's career prematurely ending in tragic circumstances seems much lower.
