This was the best race Sochi has ever seen and will ever see. Full stop.

Hamilton had a shitty start, couldn't work his way to the front for a long time too. Bottas didn't even attempt to fight Verstappen, it was like he got lapped or something, that gave me a good chuckle. I think Hamilton would have overtaken Norris even without the rain, since he was gaining ground quickly anyway. While it turned out badly for Norris not to grab new tyres, I think the chance of it paying off weren't that bad, but the rain just got bad very quickly. Not a big blunder, but a blunder nonetheless. A damn shame, he drove a great race. But then again, Hamilton refused to take inters, too.
Another blunder by McLaren: they got baited into pitting Ricciardo early.

Overall, great race with many overtakes, strategic battles and rain at the end to make things even more exciting. Compared to the snorefest that Sochi is otherwise, this was pretty fucking rad. 2021 is the best season since Rosberg became champion, if it turns out Verstappen wins the title by a hair's width in the last race, this could become one of the best seasons of all time ngl.

This result reminded us why there is a sizable gap between second and third in the Constructors Championship. Between Lando making a schoolboy error and McLaren falling into a strategy trap, it wasn't a great day at the office for the orange team.

Max put in a hell of a drive, and reminded everybody why he's WDC material.

My god Bottas continues to be fucking useless. They give him an engine penalty on purpose to hold off Verstappen and he does so... for like 4 corners, and now he's in 14th while Lewis is fighting for the win. In other words, Verstappen managed to gain 13 positions while starting from 20th, Bottas managed to gain 3 from 17th.

Well that was scary from Norris. And now he's channeling his Twitch self while talking to his engineer.

Looks like Mercedes made a good strategy call for once.

It's just sad looking at Norris. McLaren must be fuming rn. They had a win but dumbass thought he knew better. If he drops out of a podium position imma die laughing.

GG to Lewis, drove a good race, listened to his engineers for once (who also didn't fuck up) and got a win. Fuck Bottas. Verstappen had an excellent race considering he started last.
Bottas knows he's on the way out, why the fuck does Toto think he can still count on him for strategy when Val's got no incentive to help Lewis anymore?

If Bottas really has stopped giving a shit about being Hambone's bottom bitch to the point where he's now trolling Toto, then that's based af.

The impetuousness of youth. It would have been an incredible victory if Lando had managed to pull it off. You win some and you lose some. He'll learn. Many may not agree, but it's one of the reasons I tend to like McLaren more than other teams. Overall they are more reluctant to impose team orders and give their drivers more agency, even if it bites them in the ass. Which it has, many times over the decades.

Still, it was great race, even if in the end my favorite team and driver lost. Great show by Sainz as well, I was annoyed at Ferrari's pit screwup. Max had an impressive recovery, especially considering his struggles in the middle part of the race. And Bottas, the man just doesn't give a shit anymore. The fact that Toto pulled that engine stunt after they've confirmed Bottas would be out of Mercedes and he still thought Bottas would do anything speaks volumes of his blindspots. Bottas just let Max by, didn't put up even a bit of a struggle.

So, what do you guys think, is Losail a decent track? The layout looks kinda meh, especially since it's super-flat. maybe the many turns will allow decent racing, but I expect this to be dirty-air galore with only DRS """overtakes""" ever happening at the start and finish line.

Losail is a good motorcycle track, but it's not gonna work with cars. Most straights are too short for any move in a downforce-heavy car and trying to do moves on the final sector are the only places where one can plausibly try to stick it up on the inside.

That's what I feared. Well, this season had a few tricks up its sleeve and even Sochi kicked ass. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.
But another go in Portimao would have been infinitely more interesting.

I still maintain they need Mugello on the calendar. Probably my favourite of the covid stand in tracks last season.

Sadly since all the money is in the Middle East and Liberty are obsessed with the American market we can expect a load more soulless tracks in the middle of deserts or Street tracks in car parks.

Red Bull and Alpha Tauri running special Honda tribute livery for Turkey. Only teaser images of the RedBull so far.

TIL Lando Norris made $278k from Twitch streaming over the past two years. He probably doesn't need it, but good for him.

I don't follow that pig DSP but keep checking in to see if he has finally been taken down permanently and saw these Twitch leaks. I was wondering if Lando was on there.

At least with his twitch bucks he can replace the watch that he got robbed of a few months back! HAHA

So, Sainz is taking a new engine this weekend so will be at back of grid. Wonder if Hambone will do similar? If he does, Max has a good shot at getting a good lead over him if he can win the race and Ham only gets up to 4th or lower. The McLarens may be the ones who keep him from duplicating Max last race.
