Hamilton trucking his own pit crew:

But remember, Hamilton doesn't make mistakes. It was the crew member's fault for getting in the way of his car.
It's a kind of minor mishap no one would give much of a shit about, but with Hamilton Fanboys swearing up and down that LewLew can't do wrong and that he's more skilled than any driver before him ever was, it's almost a duty to point and laugh.

Andretti Autosport confirms Romain Grosjean for 2022
Marshall PruettSeptember 24, 2021 12:57 PM ET

Romain Grosjean has committed to a multi-year deal with Andretti Autosport that will see the 35-year-old remain in the NTT IndyCar Series for the foreseeable future.

As RACER has reported since July, Grosjean’s been the most coveted free agent in the series. Despite proclamations and posturing elsewhere that suggested he was not destined for the team owned by 1991 CART IndyCar Series champion Michael Andretti, the securing of Grosjean’s services has been in the works for quite some time.

“I’m delighted to be joining Andretti Autosport and driving the No. 28 DHL Honda for next season,” said Grosjean. “It’s a big honor to be joining such a great team as Andretti – anyone in the motorsport world knows the name Andretti. I’m super happy and proud to be racing with the team. I’m also very proud to be representing with DHL. I’ve known the DHL colors on racing cars for a very long time. I couldn’t be more proud to represent such a great company in IndyCar. I’m hoping that we are going to be very successful together, which is our aim on every side.

“I would like also to thank Dale Coyne Racing for giving me the opportunity to join IndyCar. I’ve enjoyed the racing so much and it’s given me the chance today to be racing with one of the most competitive and best teams in the world.”

Grosjean will step into the entry currently driven by Ryan Hunter-Reay, joining Colton Herta and Alexander Rossi as a powerful new trio tasked with earning the team’s first championship since Hunter-Reay was crowned in 2012. The outgoing Hunter-Reay is exploring multiple options to remain in IndyCar.

Although he was not part of the Grosjean confirmation, Canada’s Devlin DeFrancesco – a member of Andretti’s Indy Lights team – is set to complete their IndyCar effort next season in a multi-year deal of his own to campaign the entry currently piloted by Hinchcliffe.

Like Hunter-Reay, Hinchcliffe is not a part of Andretti’s IndyCar plans beyond this weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Romain to the Andretti Autosport family,” said team CEO and Chairman Michael Andretti. “He already had an impressive resume before coming to IndyCar, and watching what he’s been able to do in his rookie season here has been exciting to say the least. His vast motorsport experience will be beneficial to the team alongside our already-strong 2022 driver lineup. We also couldn’t be more excited to continue our strong partnership with DHL. The DHL sponsorship is one of the longest and most successful in the paddock, and we look forward to continued success on and off the track.”

Grosjean departs Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing, which gave the Swiss-born Frenchman a new chapter to explore in America after spending the entirety of his career in European open-wheel competition. With 10 years of Formula 1 experience to build upon, Grosjean was instantly effective with the modestly-sized Coyne team, producing three podiums and a pole position so far in 2021.

Through its youngest drivers, the Andretti team has earned third-place finishes in the championship in 2019 (Rossi) and 2020 (Herta), and generated five wins, but as a whole, the four-car operation has been a step behind IndyCar champions and rivals Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing, who’ve taken the last eight titles in a row.

Although three Indianapolis 500 wins since 2014 have tempered the ongoing championship losses to Penske and CGR, Grosjean’s acquisition comes at a time when Andretti Autosport – long hailed as one of IndyCar’s “Big 3” teams – is under threat from Arrow McLaren SP to maintain its place within the leading trio. Through the infusion of Grosjean’s technical, procedural, and operational knowledge gained in F1, the potential exists for Andretti Autosport to incorporate the veteran’s on- and off-track skill and return next season in a stronger competitive position.

Separate from the agreement with the Honda-powered Andretti team, Grosjean is tipped to join the manufacturer’s stable for January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona with the defending race winners at Wayne Taylor Racing the No. 10 Acura ARX-05 DPi.

It's really shitty, on one hand, I hope Mick will move on to Alfa (if only so he doesn't have to deal with his boss' son any longer), but on the other, I don't want to see Giovinazzi to lose his cockpit.
Sadly Mick will be stuck with the commie again next year as all remains same at Haashole.

Maybe they will do ok next year given they wrote off all of this year to concentrate on next year. Be pretty hilarious if they are the best team by far next year and we have Maze and Schumi battling for the title. That'd be a nuclear war compared to Ham/Max this year.

Also, they are already altering this weekend in Sochi. First F3 race was today. Qualifying may go ahead on Sunday if the expected deluge happens Saturday. That would suck as there should be two F2 and an F3 race tomorrow in addition to FP3 and Q. If it does rain a lot Sat, then I think a couple of those junior races won't be run.

If Haas doesn't have a proper tard wrangler on station for 2022 (as well as a car that has better pace than my pickup), then they're liable to have a ticking time bomb on their hands. Ferrari doesn't want any roadblocks on Mick's path to the Scuderia (They REALLY want another Schumi back in a Ferrari), but Haas also needs the budget that Daddy Mazepin brings to the table. But when you consider that Euguene Haas has had a NASCAR team for about 20 years, and by extension, two decades experience of courting sponsors, is Uralkali really the best he could do?

Problem with F1 is that the money involved is easily ten times that of NASCAR money. You need a sponsor that's willing to drop tens of millions just for an opportunity for their name to be in a backmarker. There isn't a lot of American sponsors wiling to do that because they don't see it worth the cost. Uralkali makes sense for them because they are indeed not afraid of dropping tens of millions just for their name to be there and their driver to have a secure seat. Mazepin's dad even tried to buy out one of the other teams a few years ago and failed because Stroll's dad outbid him.

The F2 race and FP3 have been scrapped, Last I heard they plan on getting Q in and are watching weather like a hawk for a break. I don't have a stream on, just checking web here and there for info/updates.

Edit: Well, that Q session was highly enjoyable for soo many reasons! 10/10

Alonso starts right behind Hamilton and Alonso is a beast when it comes to starts. Hamilton is not bad either, but when his nerves get to him and he can't just use his absurdly strong engine to keep clear of traffic by flying off into the distance, he might run into problems.
I mean, I wish him no harm, but wouldn't it be funny if he ends up binning his car while Verstappen fights to a point rank?

All that aside, McLaren once more showing they are a force to be reckoned. Norris did a phenomenal job. When Russel went out on slicks and ended up 10 seconds slower, but everyone else already being out on their outlaps on slicks, I thought this might turn into one giant bamboozle. Russel once more going "high risk - high reward" and nailing it. If they allow the drivers a tiny bit of competing for a race or two and then settle for the more successful driver to be the priority, Hamilton would be toast. Russel is going to drive circles around him and still end up quicker.

I must say, at the start of the season, I was not expecting Carlos to be performing as well as he has so far. Which is only going to make me sadder when Ferrari inevitably runs him out of Maranello to make room for Mick.
He's got at least a decade in the sport to sort himself out to be a top performer in the most pressure-intensive seat of F1, being an Ferrari driver where every Italian will be up your ass if you fuck up once or say anything bad about the car.

I think that pretty much secures Giovinazzi's drive. Only Schumacher and Illot looked on for dislodging him and both are now signed up for 22. Only really Shwartzman to worry about on that front for Gio now. I really doubt the Zhou to Alfa rumours because he's not a ferrari driver and ferrari has more drivers than they can fit into F1 teams and isn't short of money so that sweet China cash won't shout as loudly.

I'm of the opinion that NOT going for Zhou would be a mistake. Chinese money is far too important for any team to ignore and even more importantly, F1 would absolutely benefit from one Chinese driver simply because it would instantly get a lot of Chinese people interested in F1. It's been seen before with a number of other drivers, like how Petrov got Russia interested in F1, Kubica doing it for Poland, and Max doing it for the Dutch. I'd still pick keeping Gio over Piastri, if it comes to that because while Piastri is an obvious hypertalent who is absolutely dominating whatever open-wheeler category, team stability is more important especially since Italian companies have more money than Australian companies.

Lewis can be a pretty decent fella at times, not gonna lie. It's just that the ratio of him being a decent guy to him being a douche is 1:2 at least.
He used to be alright (see that TG Senna tribute I posted a couple of pages back). idk if it's because he's the most successful F1 driver of all time*, the rise of social media that's led to an especially obnoxious breed of fanboy, the British media lining up to fellate him at every opportunity, or all that woke BLM horseshit he's been sniffing. Probably a combination.

I'm so happy for Grosjean. An IndyCar championship would be a nice thing for him to have. Not sure how likely it'll be given the calibre of the IndyCar field, but it's nice to dream.

It might not be too bad for Giovinazzi if Ferrari ends up putting him in a GT car in 2022. It's not like he'd completely lose a drive. That said, Mick is future F1 WDC material IMHO; Giovinazzi not so much.

Carlos has plenty of time. If he needs to move onto another team in 3-4 seasons time, so be it. In the worst case scenario there's always IndyCar.

AR doesn't need the money as much as Haas does. I think Mick moving to AR (assuming Giovinazzi moves on) and Zhou joining Haas makes more sense. With both Chinese and Russian money, Haas might finally be able to afford a car that doesn't drive like a truck.

That's why I see Doohan leapfrogging Piastri into F1. As previously pointed out, Jack has RB backing and a family name. Sucks to be Oscar, as he's clearly worthy of a shot in F1.

My god Bottas continues to be fucking useless. They give him an engine penalty on purpose to hold off Verstappen and he does so... for like 4 corners, and now he's in 14th while Lewis is fighting for the win. In other words, Verstappen managed to gain 13 positions while starting from 20th, Bottas managed to gain 3 from 17th.

Well that was scary from Norris. And now he's channeling his Twitch self while talking to his engineer.

Looks like Mercedes made a good strategy call for once.

It's just sad looking at Norris. McLaren must be fuming rn. They had a win but dumbass thought he knew better. If he drops out of a podium position imma die laughing.

GG to Lewis, drove a good race, listened to his engineers for once (who also didn't fuck up) and got a win. Fuck Bottas. Verstappen had an excellent race considering he started last.
