So if these fucking idiots use GPS, how do they think it WORKS?

They think it's rigged by "The Man" (or by reptilian overlords/aliens of some kind.)

These guys are weird. Haven't any of them travelled in an airplane?

Yes. One of them I mentioned, Jeremiah, was in the Airforce. He says that the Earth was always flat when he was up in the air.

I'm trying to find the endgame of proving the Earth is flat.

Aren't a lot of scientific theories and observations of the world in general reliant on the assumption that the world is spherical?

I mean, it'd be a hell of a discovery if someone could conclusively prove that there was a huge conspiracy hiding that the Earth was actually flat... but wouldn't that basically shoot a lot of known science, at least in terms of geology, physics, etc., straight in the fucking foot?

I'm trying to find the reason why these people think there's a conspiracy to convince everybody why the earth is round.

Seriously, what does keeping the "truth" from us actually accomplish? There has to be a reason and it can't simply be to keep the globe manufacturers in business. To this date not one of them has been able to answer this.

Maybe it's part of a yearning for the days when people thought Earth and humanity were the central part of a small and tidy magical cosmos* that was only a few thousand years old - instead of people being a relatively recent result of natural selection on an insignificant planet near the edge of a typical galaxy in an incomprehensibly vast, chaotic, and ancient universe?

*(a really old way of thinking is that the universe is like a planetarium and the world is the floor)

It doesn't matter how good education is. There will always be someone that believes the most inane things.

Neither. Hitler thought that the center of the world was hollow.

Everyone knows a turtle holds the Earth on It's back. You can't fool me, It's turtles all the way down.
I understood that reference.

The problem with this community is that the trolls outnumber the true believers by a massive number. IMHO, it's hard to laugh along if 90% of the users are just third-rate trolls spewing out the same jokes over and over again.

Absolutely stunning to consider people this stupid could be alive...or breeding.

On the other hand, has anybody thought to troll them by proposing the world is being held up on the shoulders of four elephants standing on a giant turtle? :applecat:

Edit: Didn't look back and realize the joke was used, I'm a moron.

What gets me is if you go to the ocean and watch a ship you can see it go over the horizon- its how yhe greeks realised the earth was round

Haha, Reminds me of some circle of rightwinged conspiracy theorists named the "Neuschwabenlandtreffen" in Germany. Their leader, Doctor Axel Stoll is quite infamous for his insane conspiracy gibble gabble.

They basically took the beforementioned hollow earth theory of Rolf Keppler and spiced with some esoteric Nazi bullshit - example: they think Hitlers still alive, residing along with his followers under Antartica in "Neuschwabenland". According to them "Nazi" comes from Narzareth, therefore Jesus was the first Nazi and the term used to be sacred. Also that the aryan race actually descends from an alien highly evolved civilisation, for example the straight hairstructure of the aryan race basically serve some kind of transmitter purpose and the Earth is some kind of punishment for all inferior races for the aryan alien civilisation to reign over. Another of their crazy theories is that all kinds of UFO sightnings are attributed to the so called "Reichsflugscheibe" (Nazi UFOs) - some kind of secret vehicle developed by the Nazis during the Third Reich.

Doctor Stoll (he died recently) and his followers used to meet in some pub in berlin to discuss their insane believes. Even the german constitution protection, who also classified Scientology as a cult/scam, won't take them seriously, even if they're observing the activities of the circle.

You can try to show then that the earth has a visible curve when you leave the athmosphere, but they will say it's an optical illusion caused by curved windows
You don't even have to do that. All you need is to visit the top of a building that's higher than 1,000 feet on a clear day, and you can see the curvature of the Earth from there.

If you're already a very gullible person and are heavily into paranormal, supernatural shit or heavily religious, you'll get fooled pretty easily by this pile of horseshit, especially if you don't have a scientific background. If you desperately want to be the contrarian and go against the establishment and NASA, then people come to the conclusion that they have believe in garbage just because it goes against popular belief or established fact. There's just that allure for them that they want to be in the know and feel like they see things that others don't see.

Surprisingly, there are people out there who are tolerant of the flat earth theories because they want to be "open minded," just like these same people blindly take stories about aliens from con men seriously and taking a quick look, there are actually flat earth videos that have gotten lots of views online, probably from people who want to make a quick buck out of all of this. There's just something about seeing these people on a computer screen or TV rather than having a salesman go knock at your door in person that gets them to fall for these theories.

Wasn't it the ancient Greeks who figured out the world was round? They were already making globes by the 2nd century BC if Wikipedia is to be trusted.

The ancient Greeks not only knew that, but Eratosthenes got a pretty accurate estimate as to the actual circumference of the Earth from observation.

These guys are trolls 100%.

They remind me of this other forum... what was it called? The one where people pretend to be hardcore Christians for fun.
