  • 2 Stars — Pretty bad. Some funny moments, dragged, too many vibe repair days. Barely worth checking.

bong was demodded.
She's so treacherous.
This shit is so fucking funny to me.
John has been dragging Alex for days and I laugh every time I see it.
It's such a perfect sperg fight.
Really need to get them both on a thing together.
Like Mizzy getting them both on her stream and hashing it out while she plays Dr Phil character.
I want her in that cheap suit, the latex bald cap and doing the affectation like the man who did Bum Fights did. Come on Mizzy! You can do it!

The Act 1 major fuckup was the Hulu gaslight: I think if it weren't for that not as many people would have left.
Respectfully disagree, because the switchover from the Hulu trailer, to the Fishtank screens were too good. I loved the freakout, I loved them trying to figure out what they were looking out. Why did Vance have hair!

So many people have completely overlooked that moment, that was some of the most compelling TV ever in Fishtank at the time. Watching the fish try to process those images in real time, not knowing the truth and trying to piece together what it could mean based on their own limited worldview, was kino.

That was such an underrated moment. Especially when Alex B saw the pic of Fatty in Bloodgames and called it “some Hills Have Eyes shit”. Fishtank screenshots look insane out of context. Like show someone a screenshot from S1 and they might think it was some insane social experiment from a psych ward.

The Hulu gaslight is what made act 1 great. It was the rushed reveal of said gaslight followed by the brutality of the cell challenge that made so many people leave. The first two weeks they insisted on a slow burn and it was working very well. None of them really questioned computer, the increased tension between Sam and Ben, and the transition to more sfx and computer’s increased hostility.

They very clearly wanted to draw it out longer. But something happened in the basement to where they rushed into the reveal, throwing caution to the wayside.

I agree that the Hulu gaslight, including the initial relative slow-burn of the bit, is what made act 1 great - but I'm pretty sure you're incorrect when you say "they very clearly wanted to draw it out longer" and something happened which caused them to "rush" the reveal.

The plan was seemingly always to have the 3 acts - there was even the briefing document which Frank showed on his twitter which showed what they were. 6 weeks divided in to 3 acts is 2 weeks per act. The reveal and switch from act 1 to act 2 happened exactly on 2 weeks. Famous House 2.0 was also 2 weeks after that.
The video they showed the fish teasing "fishtank" with the previous seasons was also clearly made in advance. Plus Jet also spoke on twitter of having to get rid of Smaack because things were going to get freaky a decent amount of time before she left and they made the switch.

If anything the problem was that they just didn't recognise how good things were with the Famous House concept, and rather than be nimble and spontaneous in adapting to the idea that it was something which they could get a lot more mileage out of, they had tunnel vision and instead just stuck to the plan they had already made weeks ago - which was to "blow the whole thing up" (Jet's words) after 2 weeks.

Ideally they would start with Famous House and keep the ruse going as long as possible, while letting the show naturally descend in to closer to a fishtank scenario anyway.

It looks like a bunch of autists overthrew their tard wranglers at a group home.
My favorite of these is the first one. On the first day of Fatty in the house I randomly tuned into B3 and saw him just sitting there on the bed in a weed luchadore mask and I laughed my ass off. Those spontaneous moments of hilarity are some of the best Fishtank moments.

That's the beauty of Fishtank. You can be working all day and when you find the time to check in on the streams, you might run into the most wild shit.

I think that would've been a better lead-in for Fatty showing up rather than Frank. If Fatty showed up early and only stayed a few days as "Wild Randy" it would've been funnier, imo, because Fatty is otherwise a weird fat retard who Alex B now believes wants to fuck his monkeys.

I totally agree with this. It's quite ironic that the usually biggest criticism of the wiggers is their refusal to plan, but in this case their big mistake was sticking to the plan despite how well the first act was going. As a viewer, it felt like things were going great, and then out of nowhere they blew everything up and triggered walk offs.

I think they could have easily kept slow burning the reveal for another week or so, dropping more clues/hints like they did with the TV until the fish had either figured it out or were so suspicious that production had no choice but to do a grand reveal - one where Sam didn't fucking immediately lie to them for a cheap laugh and ruin the moment. This way Jet would have also got his "cool undercover spy thriller" and we would have got more great moments like the TV slideshow as you guys have mentioned.

Roughly 3 weeks of Famous House followed by 3 weeks of Fishtank is the trajectory for the season that I think would be the winning formula. But instead Jet planned to do a season of Fishtank where 2/3rds of the show wasn't Fishtank, and where the plan was to make the end of the show less interesting than the middle of the show. Baffled.
